Comes up short? We've crushed a true American Patriot and born leader before she even had a chance. Mission Accomplished.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Oct 5, 2011 -> 05:14 PM) I don't care to support everything the guy did, but (1) I think 90% of that s*** was drummed up by ESPN by having Rachel Nichols/Ed Warne report on everyone one of Favre's bowel movements in April, and (2) I think GB should have bent over backwards for a guy that maintained their relevance for the better part of two decades and who is one of the greatest players to play the game. Saga or not, IMO you put up with it until it becomes clear that he just can't play anymore and you have to make a move. You can't hire a guys' replacement near the end of his career and expect him to be all happy and jovial about it. You can expect a guy to quit dicking your franchise around year after year over whether or not he's actually going to play for you or, if he continues to dick around, say "see ya." If Brett hadn't retired in a stream of tears a dozen times, I'd be a lot more sympathetic to his case. -

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Oct 5, 2011 -> 05:01 PM) For some reason? The dude was pegged as his replacement for 4 seasons and despite being one of the best QB's in the game's history he was run out of town. I think he's got every right to be angry/jealous. He was "run out of town" after trying to dick the Packers around during Unretirement Saga Part III -

QUOTE (Tex @ Oct 5, 2011 -> 04:14 PM) Gotcha. I forget we have a well educated group here. The average Joe Sixpack tends to forget that. Even if one were to hold discourse on this topic predicated around the extant American governmental system, one may still be tempted to ask why coalescing power at the State level is an ideal structure, preferable to further delegating State power to local municipalities. Surely, if the claim that States act as a "test bed" of Democracy for various policies and that citizens can freely and easily relocate to the State that endeavours to enact their personal preferences most closely, then one can further reason that delegating the aforementioned powers to an ever more granular level maximizes one's ability to live with one's own ideal governance.

2011-2012 OFFICIAL NBA LOCKOUT thread
StrangeSox replied to southsider2k5's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Oct 5, 2011 -> 03:38 PM) If the Bulls didn't have a chance of "winning" when they were the 8th seed in the NBA, then how could you say that the teams in the other sports had a legitimate shot at winning? At least the Bulls got some playoff games out of it, 24 teams in baseball and 20 in football don't see the post-season and at least half of them were never really close. Someone like the Blue Jays were no closer to winning than the Bulls, and they had a relatively decent season. I don't see how you could say with a straight face that the Orioles or Nationals in baseball or the Jaguars or Seahawks in football had any chance coming into this season. It's basically the same thing, you can pick most of the playoff teams before the season even starts. And if you want to pick the rare examples of an expected mediocre team making a run, I'm sure you had the Grizzlies going to game 7 in the second round, right? You can get hot in the MLB as long as you make it into the playoffs. Same with the NFL, since it's all single-game eliminations. That doesn't seem to happen very often in the NBA. -

apparently they tried some really dumb s*** with Breaking Bad, too:

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Oct 5, 2011 -> 03:53 PM) What was the thought process behind that? I thought that series was getting a ridiculous amount of viewers. Dumb management. It's why Frank Darabont was fired/quit. http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/walk...ed-fired-221449 Dumb dumb dumb.

QUOTE (Brian @ Oct 5, 2011 -> 03:38 PM) Same here. And I just don't think a horror themes TV show can last and have longevity. I hope Walking Dead proves me wrong. I don't have much hope since they slashed their budget so much. Honestly, the writing (mostly the dialogue) was pretty sub-par so without all of the aesthetic appeal, I don't know how good it'll be.

Oh, he's making fun of the handful of DePaul kids, not addressing the actual underlying concerns of large-and-growing wealth and income inequalities, disappearing economic mobility and a failing support structure for modern finance/shareholder capitalism.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Sep 23, 2011 -> 11:37 AM) So because it's happened before in Illinois it's now "commonplace" in Georgia? I mean I get what you're saying. This stuff happens. But you have to take this on a case by case basis. In this case there was no evidence of any coercion, just some trumped up affidavits alleging it. There wasn't even a hint of truth to those accusations, let alone proof. FYI Illinois just released a man after spending 21 years in prison for a murder he didn't commit and a conviction that was based entirely on eye-witness testimony that was later recanted.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 5, 2011 -> 03:32 PM) Indiana is directly dependent on that same industry, both for the automotive parts and for steel. As wholly and completely as Michigan was?
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 5, 2011 -> 03:29 PM) Eh, its been better than any of our neighbors, that is for sure. I think the State of Michigan is in Foreclosure. Well Michigan has the unique case of "collapse of their biggest industry by far" and was in decline for a while before everything else went to s***, IIRC.
