It's nice how easy it is for teams to turn singles into doubles and doubles into triples against our staff.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Apr 24, 2009 -> 03:24 PM) go Gore. He called Blackburn out and was right. Blackburn was trying to get Gore to say he'd profit from the bill and Gore wouldn't bite. Everyone knows that Global Warming is just an international money-making/ socialist scheme. I'm not sure how those two are compatible.

Contentious issues that are generating a lot of posts (eg torture memos) should be split out of Dem/ Rep threads and into their own discussion, imo.

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Apr 24, 2009 -> 10:16 AM) No one said it was "safe". But it is effective in certain circumstances. But you all want it to be something so bad you can't see through the rest. You all have such a hard on to get even with Bush officials that you simply cannot fathom that we might have gotten information that saved lives. You don't want that to be true, because then your arguments don't mean as much. Could we have gotten that information without torturing, er, sorry, "enhanced interrogating" them? Was the "harsh treatment" really necessary to get the information?

QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Apr 23, 2009 -> 02:45 PM) I mean really here, you can pull this kind of s*** out for any country. Israel has basically adopted killing civilians as a foreign policy, China executes people for unfair business practices, the list pretty much never ends. I don't recall the US or any place in Europe being so progressive as to execute gays for being gay.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 23, 2009 -> 02:37 PM) That is immaterial to the question at hand. Someone tried to make the point that Obama had critics before Bush did in relative stages of their service. Its simply not true. I retract my initial claim. BDS and ODS set in at early stages.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 23, 2009 -> 12:20 PM) Is Barton just really, really dumb? I mean, he's linking the video, where he clearly doesn't get it. This will only work on the wingbats who support him no matter what. Anyone who actually watches the video and has a few brain cells will see this. Many people are just incredibly ignorant of basic science. The Senator doesn't seem capable of understanding basic geological processes, and instead believes that oil in the Arctic means that the Arctic was really, really warm at one point with lots of life and I'm assuming that this leads him to the conclusion that global warming is good. Really, the scientific literacy in this country this days is appalling.

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Apr 23, 2009 -> 12:08 PM) http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/30335592/ But of course, Obama's tact here REALLY is to put any blame on future attacks back on the Bush administration because of "torture". And judging by all you liberals, it's working. You don't want to think that the Messiah can be wrong about anything. This guy brainwashes you all better then anyone I've ever seen. Just keep drinking the kool-aid and don't ever stop and ask yourself what the truth really is. And as I always say, it's about somewhere in the middle, but you all want to blame Bush so bad you can't stand the thought that they could maybe be right on some of this stuff. It couldn't be, could it? Oh, the BROKE THE LAW, HANG THOSE f***ERS. They didn't break laws. But you all want to believe it so bad you can't stand it. Conversely, you have seemed incapable of ever giving him credit lately. It's Obama Derangement Syndrome, and it set it much earlier than Bush Derangement Syndrome set in for most liberals. As for the second bolded part, isn't that for an investigation to determine? QUOTE (kapkomet @ Apr 23, 2009 -> 12:18 PM) I know that, but I see more s*** come from the liberals here that they always just take at face value, because it fits their viewpoints. Bush administration tortured, the information was bulls***, and no matter what, that is it. How many posts have we seen with that schtick? Too damn many. Everyone is susceptible to confirmation bias. Aren't you accepting the claims that the information was good/ prevented attacks that otherwise wouldn't have been stopped at face value while scrutinizing any other claims much more heavily?

"Mini" Computers
QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Apr 23, 2009 -> 09:43 AM) Even the newer version of the Atom processor isn't all that. I personally wouldn't run a celeron proc for anything I do, and these atom procs kind of are in that same frame of mind. My wife has a dual core celeron which is passable for browsing and basic things, but the minute she uses an office application or does anything that requires any processing power it dogs down. Celerons and Atoms are low end processors that provide a low cost solution to get people into computing at a low price tag. This low price tag however has a cost in computing. If you are just using this to browse the internet and to do basic things, sure this will work. If you want to do anything else on it, then move to an ultra portable notebook with a real proc. Cheap procs allow people to get into computing on the low end. Its great for that. Still not enough horsepower to run anything but basic apps. Yep, that's all I got it for. It handles streaming video alright and works great for basic internet browsing, downloading and office apps. Not sure if this is exactly what Tex was looking for, but it is what I was looking for since I didn't want to spend more than $500.

QUOTE (JorgeFabregas @ Apr 23, 2009 -> 09:09 AM) His BABIP is also .149 Good pitchers make hitters make poor contact? I'm happy to see BA doing a decent job with the bat. If he can provide adequate offense, it really shores up the Sox CF problem.

It was so painfully obvious what Barton was trying to imply there, but he still failed so massively. What are Chu's and Obama's positions on nuclear power? I haven't heard much aside from stopping Yucca Mountain.

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Apr 22, 2009 -> 12:02 PM) The Constutition is not for non-Us citizens. And the Geneva Convention does not apply in this case. So what other straw man GWB's adminstration is evil as hell arguements do all you people want to keep throwing out there? Oh, the next one: "We're better then that" and the next one is "they are not above the law" - no law was broken. When in the hell do you people want to learn that war is a dirty business? No one likes it, but you all want to make it this nicey nicey nicey thing, and it's just not. Oh, next, "it's not a war, it's an overseas contingency operation"... yea, for a moron with nice flowery words spewing out of his mouth every day on tv. And on top of that, if it's not a "war" then the Geneva Conventions really don't apply... so which way do you people want it? What rules apply to foreign nationals that commit crimes in the US?

2016 Olympics Discussion
QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Apr 21, 2009 -> 08:31 AM) They can say that but as much as the IOC will keep saying that they "pick cities, not continents", the recent games in Beijing and the fact Japan had Nagano not too long ago will play a major factor. Especially since the voting will be done only a year after Beijing there may be a "been there, done that" feeling amongst some voters. Politics definitely plays a role in this and I am convinced there is no way on earth Madrid gets the 2016 Games with the 2012 and 2014 Games in Europe already. Until the announcement is made, I won't believe that the games will be in any city other than Chicago or Rio. SLC had the Olympics in 2002. Nagano was 1998. Wouldn't that be a bigger blow against a US city than against a Japanese one?

North Korea Expels UN Nuclear Inspectors
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 15, 2009 -> 07:06 AM) Honestly, does anyone else think that NK, even if they wanted to, has the means to invade SK? If they are scraping by on fuel and food, how the heck would they muster up enough rations and energy to move a million man army across the DMZ? Unless they plan on fighting like Russia with the four bullet allotment and walking to the border, I am just not convinced they have the means to do it. I will also swear up and down that the biggest reason they don't want to invade is the same reason they don't let ANYTHING in from the outside in the first place. If the people of NK saw how the rest of the world around them lives, they would overthrow Il, like yesterday. The military would throw down their arms quicker than the Iraqi armies did in both gulf wars. I know I've read that US losses are estimated to be as high as 95% in the DMZ if NK ever decided to roll through full-force. They might not be able to take and hold SK, but they could put up a hell of a fight.
