Thats a dont walk him loser
QUOTE(RX Bandits @ May 8, 2007 -> 11:12 PM) second guessing at its finest. what if there was a single to right, one could have made the argument that if dye is playing deep then on a single the runner scores from second? this argument is obviously dumb, and thus im not making it. My point is that almost everything can be second guessed. why wasnt crede playing the line in the 10th...is that ozzies fault too? The end result is that the bullpen didnt give ozzie a whole lot of flexibility tonight So when the hell can you criticize Ozzie for his terrible lineups, poor bullpen management, and poor defensive alignments?

Thats a dont walk him loser
QUOTE(BearSox @ May 8, 2007 -> 11:11 PM) Javy was only at 107 and was dealing. I know 107 might be a little too much, but he should have at least started the 8th, and if he got up around the 120 mark, then taken out. He pitched a ton last time he was out. Don't want to burn out his arm this early into the season.

Thats a dont walk him loser
QUOTE(RX Bandits @ May 8, 2007 -> 11:05 PM) THEY HAD A 3 RUN LEAD!!! It would be different if that game had been tied going into the 8th, then fine, i can agree with the greviances people are having. But to blame this on ozzie is dumb. The players didn't execute and Ozzie was made to look like a little league coach. Its not the first time its happened this year, and it certainly won't be the last. Responsibility falls on both. But completely dumb-ass managerial decisions are something that can be easily seen and corrected. You can't just make a pitcher pitch better, but you can make a move that makes a hell of a lot more sense than what ozzie does.

So the fans were whining about this in the offseason?
QUOTE(fathom @ May 8, 2007 -> 10:36 PM) He missed one start! Flat out, KW lied when he said he wouldn't trade Garcia unless it improved this team for 2007. He failed! Unless you consider clearing a spot for another starter, like Danks, who may end up being better than Garcia over the course of the season.

Pods Update
QUOTE(Tony82087 @ May 8, 2007 -> 05:41 PM) Exactly. He can't play D, can't hit, has no power, has trouble getting on base, and now our manager doesn't want him to use his legs as much, so he has diminished speed. I am having trouble seeing what he actaully brings to the table..... Grinderism!

Couch rips the White Sox for "staying put"
QUOTE(caulfield12 @ May 8, 2007 -> 02:59 PM) Our playoffs, EVERYTHING went our way... 1) Two calls against Escobar with AJ at bat 2) Easy ball through Graffanino, followed by Iguchi homer when we were down 3) Pods taking Lidge deep 4) Rallying against Oswalt 5) Geoff Blum? Who? 6) Rallying against Lidge to win game 2 after Vizcaino's hit off Jenks 7) Buehrle getting a save...when we close to using Ozuna as a pitcher 8) El Duque getting 3 outs against Boston 9) Cotts getting out of 2nd and 3rd, no outs, with Jenks' help against Bagwell 10) The fact that they had to lead off with Clement in a short series Now was all of that due to luck, or do to having the right staff and having that staff perform?

Obama Under Secret Service Protection
QUOTE(Alpha Dog @ May 8, 2007 -> 11:55 AM) But armored SUV's? I would assume that the secret service already has the current SUV's in available for use. So, would Obama be willing to pay for the new vehicle(s) for his detail, or is that an expense he wants to stick the taxpayers with? Democrats got ripped up and down by right-wingers for flying in to their debates. Now, one is taking a step to make his campaign "greener" and he's getting ripped up and down for it by right-wingers.

So the fans were whining about this in the offseason?
QUOTE(joeynach @ May 8, 2007 -> 11:22 AM) As for Freddy I think it was pretty obvious he was nearing the end of his effective pitching career. He lost close to 5 to 6 mph on his fastball and become a sort of junk baller. He couldnt challenge anyone with his 86-88 mph 4 seamer and his 2 seamer was OK. He started throwing a ton of changeups, splitters, sliders where he used to throw a 93-95 4 seam, 2 seam, overhand curve. His strikeout rate was down tremendous and his whip was up. The key thing was that in order to rear back and throw a 92 mph fastball he would leave pitches high in the zone that would get crushed, hes doin the same this year. Also, he couldn't hold anybody on base. All and all thats not the type of pitcher really anyone should want in their rotation. It was just flat out time to leave. I don't think anyone disagrees with that. A lot of people just thought that KW should have gotten more for him. Maybe other GM's just realized what Freddy was/ is.

Illinois Smoking Ban Passes House
QUOTE(Y2HH @ May 8, 2007 -> 10:18 AM) My business is mine. You don't have to come there nor do you have to work there. Apples and oranges again. Your business is still heavily regulated by federal organizations like OSHA and the EPA. Your workers are still afforded some amount of protection and workplace rights.

Couch rips the White Sox for "staying put"
QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ May 8, 2007 -> 12:55 AM) Dumb argument. Getting to the playoffs is all about the GM and all that, once you get there, it's purely a matter of luck. There is no scientific way to win in the playoffs, basically you have to get hot and you have to get lucky. To blame moneyball for that is simply nonsense. Thanks It's not luck. It involves a ton of factors, but its not luck. The White Sox didn't "luck" their way into completely dominating pitching performances. I wasn't blaming moneyball for the A's lack of success. I just find it funny when people talk about how successful moneyball has been for the A's. Yes, it has allowed them to field a playoff contender for relatively cheap, but they have yet to field a World Series contender.

The White Sox are an Average Team
Does that factor in all of the money other teams might get or have to pay?

Couch rips the White Sox for "staying put"
QUOTE(joeynach @ May 7, 2007 -> 11:11 PM) Well apparently $200 Mil payroll hasn't been succesful either how many WS have the yanks had recently. I'd say it takes a good combination of both. Spend some money, but don't blow it all on big-name free agents and use statistics to your advantage.

Couch rips the White Sox for "staying put"
QUOTE(witesoxfan @ May 7, 2007 -> 10:57 PM) the Red Sox won Boston had the second highest payroll in the MLB. Doesn't that go against the principles of moneyball?

Couch rips the White Sox for "staying put"
QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ May 7, 2007 -> 03:11 PM) The success of the A's for many years has been based on maximizing the performance they get out of guys, and then trading them to teams who will overpay for them, only to see the guy they got regress to the means (SEE: Mulder for Calero and Haren for example). In fact, they do it well in cases like Frank Thomas, Chad Bradford, etc as well in cases without trades. That is the true essence of moneyball, far more than on base percentage (although that is important too). How successful has moneyball been in winning a WS or even getting to one?

QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ May 3, 2007 -> 11:31 AM) The pregnancy death thing I find odd....Why didn't Rousseau and Alex die? Ben is the father and has never been off of the island?????? Wasn't Rousseau pregnant when she was shipwrecked? I think Ben's just Alex's adoptive father.- Films
I saw Casino Royale and thought it sucked. I'm so god-damned sick of Texas Hold'em.- White Sox Winner!!!!!!!!!
Nice to see a win. I didn't get a chance to turn the game on until the bottom of the 9th.- White Sox vs. Angels, 5/4/07 (L)
QUOTE(Brian @ May 4, 2007 -> 07:15 PM) How many solo homers tonight? 2, for a grand total of 2 runs for the game.- I'm actually more optimistic now than before the season
QUOTE(TLAK @ May 4, 2007 -> 05:51 PM) I'm also pretty upbeat about the team. Despite not hitting they have stayed pretty aggressive, and I feel that is a key for this type of team. They keep playing hard whether they are up or down. The hitters just need to see some bad pitchers a couple of times and they will come around. A bloop and a bomb (or two) will change everyone's perspective. Maybe Paul Konerko can hit one hard before it gets dark out in LA tonight and the disease will spread. Last time they faced a really bad pitcher who was throwing meatballs all night, they got 3-hit shutout through 8 innings. They often faired similarly against poor pitchers during the second half of last season. There is no reason that the hitting "has" to come around. That's not to say that it can't or won't, just that it isn't a foregone conclusion. - LOST! thread
