The Bathroom Dilemma
There's more documented cases of Republican men trolling bathrooms for on-the-down-low gay sex than transgendered people stalking womens restrooms. Keep in mind that the laws now sort of defacto allow transgendered people to use the bathroom of their preference, and this does not appear to have actually caused any issues. Laws like NC explicitly change the status quo.

The Bathroom Dilemma
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ May 5, 2016 -> 10:38 AM) I would love to see Gregs reaction if a trans man who identified as a woman walked into the bathroom he was using and used it because she was forced to. Im sure he would be very accepting That's the thing with these laws--a fully transitioned FtM person would be forced to use the women's restrooms and locker rooms because that's what their birth certificate says. The law itself is incoherent and basically unenforceable, it's just signaling "hey we're terrible people who want to openly harass transgendered folks because we can't harass gay people anymore."

QUOTE (bmags @ May 5, 2016 -> 09:57 AM) The politiking of Puerto Rico as some sort of "other" is really making me sad. US should really sell or grant independence to their non-state properties and just buy land for military bases on them. US Samoa, Marshall, Guam, etc. Not fair these places can get so railroaded by crises because out of sight out of mind, and then when they do need help, there is incentive for a party to punish them for their home voters. I thought that there's overwhelming support in PR against independence? Statehood is always going to face a huge uphill battle because it'd be a guaranteed 2 more Senate seats for Democrats and several House seats as well at the expense of other states.

QUOTE (illinilaw08 @ May 5, 2016 -> 09:34 AM) Not to hijack this thread, but aren't most current high speed rail proposal regional? High speed rail makes a lot of sense in the northeast, and in the Midwest (linking Minneapolis, Chicago, Indianapolis, St. Louis, Detroit, Columbus, etc.). The infrastructure would be really expensive, but that's how high speed rail reasonably makes sense in the US. I think the major projects being pushed right now are high-speed lines between LA-San Fran and LA-Las Vegas.

A look at the uphill battle the GOP was facing this year, with or without Trump at the top of the ticket: That's giving ®'s a bunch of states that they would struggle to win anyway. The paths to 271 for Republicans are pretty limited.

QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ May 5, 2016 -> 07:54 AM) I start at 7:25 and get out at 2:15. It sucks to have to wake up at 5:45, but at least I get home pretty early compared to some other schools. Just 9 more full days and I'm done. Praise the lord. Ha, my wife was saying the same thing last night (she's a teacher).

QUOTE (greg775 @ May 4, 2016 -> 04:00 PM) Then why the hell have we had MEN and WOMEN bathrooms forever? We haven't! These sorts of laws really came into vogue in the late 19th and early 20th century.- The Bathroom Dilemma
What's weird about the people melting down over this issue is that I've definitely seen parents bring opposite-sex small children into the bathroom with them. If you're a dad with a toilet-training 3 year old daughter, you've got to either bring her in the men's bathroom with you or go into the women's bathroom with her.- The Bathroom Dilemma
Let's go back to Roman times. Non-segragated, open bench-style washrooms where you're looking the other person in the eye while you drop a duece.- 2016 Democratic Thread
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ May 4, 2016 -> 01:59 PM) I can't agree with these more. I'm currently seeing my hardcore Berner friends pining for a Sanders/Kasich ticket. Or Jill Stein. Or Gary Johnosn. It is so clearly not about the issues with them anymore. It's about being special. Eh there were plenty of Hillary PUMA's after the primaries in 2008. They came around. Sanders/Kasich though, lol. QUOTE (lostfan @ May 3, 2016 -> 11:45 PM) Carly Fiorina managed to lose twice in the same race. Nobody has ever done that before. I'm impressed. Maybe Trump will name her his VP and make it a hat trick? Ted Cruz knew he was going to have to fire a bunch of people very soon, and he picked the right person for the job! Even though trump essentially has the nomination locked up at this point, there could still be some interesting shenanigans at the convention over the party platform and the VP nomination. Delegates are unbound for both of those, and Cruz did manage to weasel in a lot of his supporters.- 2016 Democratic Thread
Right, the rest of the states for the Democrats are proportional whereas a lot of the Republican states have been winner-take-all or at least winner-take-most. So even if Bernie keeps winning each state, he's not going to win enough to make up the delegate gap, superdelegates or not. edit: I've basically been ignoring the dem primary since I voted because: 1) I accepted that Hillary was almost assuredly going to be the nominee 2) I remain baffled by anyone who is enthusiastic about her candidacy 3) both the Hillary and Sanders hardcore supporters camps have been insufferable for months. - The Bathroom Dilemma
