  1. QUOTE (brett05 @ May 10, 2016 -> 11:47 AM) It would take maybe a year or two. But this solution also creates a lot of jobs as well. It's also completely unnecessary, enormously expensive and would make bathrooms in large public places like stadiums or restaurants much less efficient while taking up a bunch of extra square footage.
  2. They had some guest on during my drive to work (some guy who's an expert in fielding metrics or something), and they were talking up both the Cubs and Sox but mainly focused on the huge defensive improvements the Sox have shown so far.
  3. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 9, 2016 -> 08:11 AM) Trump's positions change every day. On minimum wage and taxing the rich, he's now sounding like a Democrat.
  4. GOP Quickly Unifies Around Trump; Clinton Still Has Modest Lead So much for the fractured GOP. On Trump supporters:
  5. QUOTE (bmags @ May 10, 2016 -> 08:26 AM) The irony is it happened in Texas, where the Alamo is, and we thought Texas was lost, but then the "grand slam" of the us army then won a war. ahaha literally lol'd at that one
  6. Iran is weirdly ok with transsexuals
  7. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ May 9, 2016 -> 11:26 AM) Or 125 Here's their game-by-game prediction. Don't know what their model actually is, but I'd imagine it's trying to take into account run differentials and some other stuff. http://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/2016-m...edictions/cubs/
  8. I don't think liberals are all that thrilled about Trump so I don't know what you're talking about there.
  9. The people who run the debates have some sort of minimum polling threshold. If candidates meet it, they'll be invited, e.g. Perot. That's better than the 15 candidates+kid's table debate the GOP had multiple times last year.
  10. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 5, 2016 -> 04:17 PM) I imagine it's too late for him to get primaried at this point This is wrong, apparently the House primary isn't until August 7th. Imagine your response if someone told you in 2012 that this would happen in 2016: "Speaker Paul Ryan possibly could be Cantor'd thanks to the work of Sarah Palin, after he refused to endorse Republican Nominee Donald Trump"
  11. Today's the filing deadline to be on the ballot in Texas, so any 3rd party "Never Trump" campaigns are probably DOA today.
  12. In '08 there were a decent number of Clinton "Party Unity My Ass (PUMA)" people, too, but they almost all came around to vote for Obama in the end. Polling shows that, by and large, Sanders supporters are not thrilled but would still vote for Clinton (like me!). Sanders himself will likely endorse Clinton, and another favorite of Berners, Elizabeth Warren, has been on the attack against Trump lately and will definitely back Hillary in the GE. There is a rump of Sanders supporters who rarely/never vote Democrat anyway, and those people won't be swayed by "lesser evil" arguments and will instead not vote or vote for some protest candidate. Overall, though, Trump's facing a much larger problem in that regard than Clinton is. A Sanders 3rd party run would possibly lead to a 2000 scenario. You'd have to go state-by-state and estimate/guess which states Sanders would pull enough supporters from Clinton from in order to throw it to Trump. It could definitely happen (e.g. how LePage got elected in Maine, two liberals split their votes and he got the plurality), but just like trying to guess the ultimate primary results back in January, it'd be really hard to game out that hypothetical.
  13. No, because while Trump said that he doesn't know how anyone could live off of the minimum wage, within a few hours he also stated that he doesn't think the minimum wage should be raised. His tax policy on his campaign site is still a massive tax cut for the wealthy. He's sounding like a guy who says whatever is best at that particular moment in time because he realizes that, at least up until this point, policy has not mattered at all.
  14. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 6, 2016 -> 08:38 PM) But isn't something like $14 trillion of that $19-20 trillion basically money that's owed to Americans? I guess the argument would be that if we could devalue our currency that it would give the US a huge export advantage (temporarily)...but then the US dollar would no longer be the respected world currency it is and nobody would ever dare buy US debt/bonds again. So probably not a great solution there. It's not devaluing the currency, it's about defaulting on the bonds to "get a better deal."
  15. Don't think for a second that that would have actually mattered. His crowds love this incoherent nonsense.
  16. Trump is a cfc denialist and apparently thinks mining safety regulations are bs, too https://mobile.twitter.com/SopanDeb/status/...398342053597184
  17. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 6, 2016 -> 12:03 PM) Soxtalk is a very liberal forum. There are a lot of people who probably agree with me, that the sight of a guy in drag as you say wouldn't be somewhat concerting/alarming/distasteful. A lot of guys aren't into that. http://www.sheknows.com/living/articles/11...target-bathroom I can't believe in the 2016, in the age of protective parents, agreeing to let guys with male body parts in the same restroom with females. But I'm bad for saying that. uh what do you think that article is saying?
  18. State chemist was high daily, thousands of drug prosecutions jeopardized "All told, she estimated that she was smoking crack ten to twelve times a day."
  19. My parents are in Aruba right now. I think it's in the 80's there this week. Hot for sure, but nothing out of line from the Caribbean as far as I know. Maui could be an option for Hawaii, and you can get 1-stop flights on Alaska Airlines from Chicago to Kauai or Maui (stop in Seattle). It's a long trip, but they're both fantastic islands. I'd agree on skipping Honolulu. Puerto Rico's a little shakey with their debt situation right now, but we did our honeymoon on Vieques. Very isolated, not heavily developed, and gorgoues beaches. We stayed here, walked to the nearby town, rented a scooter and had a great time.
  20. man there were a lot of posts defending Paterno in this thread
