QUOTE(Rowand44 @ May 31, 2005 -> 10:44 PM) Damaso was fine today, he was ahead of the hitters and got beat on two little duck snorts, he'll be fine. Good to see they were some cheapie hits, and that he didn't get knocked around. I go back to 2001-2003, and this guy was practically unhittable. You can only hope he finds that rhythm again.

QUOTE(Sox Hustler @ May 31, 2005 -> 10:22 PM) LOL that picture is great.

I mentioned before that since he signed that deal that he hasn't been the same. I would actually cite 2 seperate appearances. The first, back in 2003 was when the Sox played an interleague game against the Giants and he came in and gave up a slam to Feliz. The other one was Opening Day last year when Mendy Lopez took him deep to tie it, then another one to Beltran to win it. It's like that aura of invincibilty he had is gone. Shame.

I came in on the game at the top of the 8th inning when I saw Marte give up a bloop single to Garret Anderson to tie the game, with loud booing ensuing. I don't want to rip on the guy if he didn't pitch like s***, so somebody tell me how Marte pitched tonight.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ May 30, 2005 -> 10:46 PM) Remember that stretch in 2000 where we hit @ Cle, @ NY, Cle, NY, and lost 2 games? At some point these bats are going to suddenly discover that they can hit the ball. I think that stretch would be a good time. If I'm not mistaken, the Sox swept both of those series with the Indians & Yankees. When they returned home the following Monday or Tuesday, they got like a 3 minute standing ovation from the crowd.

QUOTE(CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ May 29, 2005 -> 11:23 PM) The Angels routed KC today. McPherson's bat has blossomed since he hit that HR off Contreras (actually the triple of the previous day.) Let's hope home sweet home is just that. Actually, KC came back and got to the Angels bullpen today. Bases loaded, down by 1, & Scot Shields was able to get Ruben Gotay on a sweet curveball to end it.

Let's get those Angles!

QUOTE(kapkomet @ May 29, 2005 -> 09:32 PM) I will say that there are a lot of good things happening with our pitchers down on the farm. I think out of all the talent someone's going to pan out to be THE real deal. 2 questions about Jenks: 1) Is he 100% healthy? 2) Is he really ready to make the jump from Double-A right now?
-
QUOTE(Fotop @ May 29, 2005 -> 09:33 PM) Talk about the hardest HRs I've seen hit live? That one was MAYBE top five. But yes, it was crushed. I can tell you my top three though, all at the cell, two of them off of Foulke (with the honorable mention going to one off of foulke as well) I don't really remember the years but: 3) McGwire hitting one out of U.S. Cellular, literally, it one hopped the LF concourse and bounced out over the hat shop. 2) Giambi trashing Foulke for a 3-run shot to right. 1) Eric Chavez DESTROYING Foulke to the Right Center concourse. Honorable Mention: Sosa mashing Foulke to tie a Cubs v. Sox game in the Ninth. more than likely cork and steriod aided, but hey so was Giambi's. Just thought I'd go off on a little tangent here, but I agree that ball was destroyed. The one that Frank hit that landed in the left center field concourse got out in a hurry. I think that was the longest one at the Cell until Borchard's 504 ft blast last year against the Phils.

QUOTE(I-HATE-CREDE @ May 29, 2005 -> 08:54 PM) There are a plethora of first basemen I would take over Grace from his era. McGuire, Thomas, Bagwell, Palmeiro, Clark, Mo Vaughn, Mattingly. What is Grace's career slugging percentage? But ask most fans, even the most biased White Sox fan if he was considered a proven hitter. Better than Frank, I think not. But proven, yes.
-
QUOTE(I-HATE-CREDE @ May 29, 2005 -> 08:42 PM) Grace was barely a .300 hitter...not .330 and up. Poor inference on your part. No, I'm just inferring on your stance that Everett played a position normally occupied by power hitters. Oh yeah, in his 16 seasons, Grace hit over .300 9 times, 3 of those times at .325 or better. And I can't stand the Cubs.
-
QUOTE(I-HATE-CREDE @ May 29, 2005 -> 08:21 PM) You just made my point for me by claiming that Everett plays a power position and can't hit for power. Thank you. :banghead Then by your logic, Ichiro musn't be worth a damn. And Tony Gwynn all of these years was stealing money from the Padres because his season high was 18 HR. What was I thinking?

Welcome to the personal blog of Mr. Jay Mariotti. :rolly

QUOTE(I-HATE-CREDE @ May 29, 2005 -> 08:03 PM) Mark Grace was a punching Judy hitter playing a power position. And Everett was once a right fielder. Yup, no power hitters there either.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ May 29, 2005 -> 07:56 PM) Great, we're comparing our offense with that of a dead ball era offense. And with steroids being eliminated, what would you call this time period?
-
QUOTE(WHarris1 @ May 29, 2005 -> 07:48 PM) I know the sky isn't falling but I don't recall recent World Series teams with over half the lineup under .245 *Ahem*. Don't know your White Sox history, eh? What was the nickname of that 1906 group? And for the record, 4 guys in that lineup were over .245. Okay, you said recent. Didn't see that. I am the suck.
-
QUOTE(I-HATE-CREDE @ May 29, 2005 -> 07:39 PM) Everett is NOT a proven hitter. He has only three 20 home run seasons. Frank had 19 at the all-star break last year. So he's not a proven hitter because he doesn't drive the ball out of the park. If that's the case, Mark Grace is on line 1 and would like to talk with you.

QUOTE(CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ May 29, 2005 -> 07:17 PM) Your attitude is a lot like mine. I'm a huge Sox fan but I've learned over the years to just let it go. If i wanted to be a GM I'd play fantasy baseball. I'd like to see what some of the GM's on this site are doing in their fantasy baseball leagues and let us all jump all over them about what a s***ty team they have and what a piss poor job some of their players are doing. Peaks and valleys. Every team (even the good ones) have them at some point in a season.

QUOTE(whitesoxjr27 @ May 29, 2005 -> 06:42 PM) just got home. how did this get to 48 pages? Blood, sweat, & tears. And a little cat-fighting along the way.

Hawkins came in during the 8th, and pitched a scoreless inning. With the game tied at 6 in the 9th, Tyler Walker came in and promptly gave up 3 runs. When Alou came to pull him, some yahoos were chanting, "WE WANT HAWKINS, WE WANT HAWKINS!" Ahhh, ignorance is bliss.

QUOTE(I-HATE-CREDE @ May 29, 2005 -> 06:17 PM) I didn't know people were so sensitive. Perhaps this website should come equiped with kleenex so folks can wipe away their tears when their feelings are hurt. You probably label war protestors as "fair weather" patriots. An equally ignorant arguement. So riddle me this. If for the rest of the year Crede added .50-.60 points to his BA, added 25 HR to his current total, & added about 85 RBI to his total, would that screenname still be justified?

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ May 29, 2005 -> 06:02 PM) If these dudes are 4 star athletes... what kind of guys are considered 5 star athletes.... The kind that wind up in Coral Gables, Gainesville, Norman, & Los Angeles.

Rally-killer am I. Shields, down 2-0, comes back with 3 strikes, including a sweet curve to end it. Angels win 7-6. I was kinda hoping for KC to win it to slow down the Halos momentum coming into the Cell tomorrow afternoon.

Royals have scored 4 in the top of the 9th to cut a 5 run deficit to 1. Bags loaded, 2 down, Gotay at the plate.
