Chicago White Sox vs. Cleveland Indians
iamshack replied to justBLAZE's topic in 2012 Season in Review
QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Sep 25, 2012 -> 11:06 AM) A little over a week ago, when we beat the Twins 9-2. Ahh yes, that is true. Thanks for pointing that out. -

QUOTE (flavum @ Sep 25, 2012 -> 10:52 AM) How about a rare laugher today? Score 7 runs in the first few innings, Liriano sails through 7 innings, nobody gets hurt. We haven't had one of those in sooo long... -
Oh my. Thank you, Adam. I am forever in your debt.

QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Sep 24, 2012 -> 04:43 PM) "This position" meaning having won 81 games, being in first, or both? What did you expect the Tigers to do? Would you be as angry if the Tigers were 10 games ahead and the Sox had exactly the same season otherwise? I expected us to be within striking distance of winning the division with 10 games remaining.

QUOTE (35thstreetswarm @ Sep 24, 2012 -> 04:26 PM) I think your first sentence hits the nail on the head, at least for me. I do have lower expectations, as I do not feel this team is so good as to give me the right to demand not only that they be in FIRST place in late September, but to flyspeck the circumstances by which they got there. It would be prettier if they had obtained a division lead by beating all the bad teams they played and losing only hard-fought, well-played games to quality opponents. But these guys are not painting a masterpiece, they're a flawed and injured team trying to gut out a division victory in a season the whole baseball world predicted would be a catastrophe. If we're talking "shoulds," they "should" be in second place, quite honestly. But they are in first. Let's play well the next ten games and keep it that way. That's fair...I can understand that....I'm not one of those people that thought the season would be a catastrophe, however. I expected Dunn and Rios to have big bounceback years. I expected us to compete. Did I expect us to do it with so many rookies? No. But I did expect that we would somewhere near this position at this time of the season. In baseball, at least if you're not the Braves of the 90's or the Yankees or the Red Sox, reaching the Postseason is a dicey proposition. To reach them now would not be "gravy" to me as a fan. We're in a position we have only been in five other times in my 35 years on this earth. I do expect them to play well down the stretch. I do expect them to win this division. s***ting the bed is not an option I relish in the final month of the season. Do I "demand" they win the division? Of course not. I am in no position to do so. Do I desperately desire them to win the division? Absof***inglutely.

QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Sep 24, 2012 -> 01:31 PM) I thought winning 5 divisional games in a row, including a 3 game sweep @ min, where we struggle, the last game of the year vs. Detroit, and one @KC, where we struggle, was a positive stretch. During the last 10 game homestand (I'm including the makeup) we won exactly 1 less game than you would have wanted going in. If we had won 2/3 vs min, 2/3 vs KC and 2/4 vs. detroit you would have taken that in a heartbeat. During the recent 9 game road trip, I think winning 2/3 in min, 2/3 in KC and 1/3 in LAA would have been acceptable to almost everyone. Again, we lost one more game than you would have wanted. So what we're all really pissed off about here is that we've won 2 less games out of the last 19 we've played than we would have liked. Instead of winning 11 of 19, we've won 9 of 19. Is that really THAT disappointing? No, it's a bit disappointing, and we're still in first. If we win 4 out of the last 10 detroit still has to win 6 to win outright. Do people realize how unlikely both of those things happening is? Perhaps you have lesser expectations of these guys than me. Of the last 16 games, we've swept the Twins. That is the only series we've played well in, and it was against one of the worst teams in all of baseball. Yipee! You're approaching this like Clark W. Griswold in Vegas Vacation at the blackjack table. 'We didn't LOSE!!!!' That's nonsense. We've lost series' to KC twice when we desperately needed wins. We had everything to play for and they had the role of playing spoiler. We split with Detroit but have now been helped out by mother nature twice. Once in order to avoid facing Verlander (and instead being able to face Fister) and again to force Detroit to play a DH with Minnesota. We s*** the field in Anaheim and got swept. So in the last 16 games, we've won one of five series, and split one, helped tremendously by weather. We've been swept once by a team that should be tighter than us. We've won 7 games despite compiling a 5 game winning streak in those 16 games. In the other 11, we managed to win two. So yes, it is THAT disappointing to me. Yes, we are still in first, but by ONE game. That lead could vanish any day. We could and should very easily have a 4 or 5 game cushion, and reach the playoffs after a 162 game, 6-month grind in which I've sat in front of the tv and invested 500 hours of my life, but we're 2 games from going home. I am definitely on the positive side of the spectrum as far as White Sox outlooks go, but make no mistake about it, this team is incredibly dangerous peril of crapping an incredible opportunity away, and that has been frustrating to me in a way I cannot form sentences to describe. The only positive is that today, we still remain in first place.
-
QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Sep 24, 2012 -> 11:56 AM) I hesitate to evaluate this race on the heels of playing our toughest remaining series while the tigers played their easiest. What about the entire last month or so? What good teams have we played well against?

Some great games today...Houston/Denver, Atlanta/SD, and NE/Baltimore...should be a very exciting afternoon and evening.

QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 22, 2012 -> 02:36 PM) Tigers offense seems like they're getting a ton of hits every game right now. I think it was pretty fair to presume the Tigers would take care of the Twins this weekend...the doubleheader is a break in that it probably makes it a touch more difficult for them to sweep. Let's hope we can win at least one and come out of the weekend with a one game lead. Anything else is just gravy in my opinion.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 22, 2012 -> 12:41 AM) It hurts terribly. However like I've said before, it was a contributing factor to my knee injuries. I roll it everyday. I don't think anyone has a loose IT band! I have been rolling a few times a week with the Rumble Roller for almost a year and I really do feel as though it has kept me away from any kind of injuries. It really does work.

All I know is every day is a struggle for me...I can hardly watch the games...in fact, I've been going out and following along on my phone just to avoid having to watch them many nights. This is one hell of a nervewracking final month...

Good, solid baseball for 9 innings?

We'll be fine...we're going to win this division...but it's not going to be because our manager and coaches have put us in the best position to win it... -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 20, 2012 -> 05:56 PM) I have MLB audio and it has been the exactly the opposite. Most of the teams just suck Yeah, I have the Extra Innings package, and I get the same impressions. There are a few good teams, namely the Oakland team and the Diamondback team, and even some combinations of the Royals guys (they have 3 or 4 guys because they added Physioc and Huddler this year), but most of them annoy me incredibly.

Hahn to become GM, Williams promoted to Vp of Bball Ops?
iamshack replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I think they've been "Hahn influenced moves" for some time now. I think Hahn is the more data-intense and risk-adverse of the two, but I don't think their theories of how to build the best Organization are all that divergent. Ultimately, KW and JR have had the final say up until this point, but Hahn certainly has had input. Now, we might see a bit of a change with Hahn having a bit more input, but Kenny and JR are going to still have their stamp on the Organization. -
What shall we call VP Kenny Williams and GM Rick Hahn

QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 20, 2012 -> 12:19 PM) You guys don't wanna hear it but just take the L tonight and move on to the rest of the season. For the Royals, every game against the Sox is their playoff game. They feast on beating us and for the Sox, they sleepwalk in front of 12,000 KC fans. After tonight, it's time to hunker down or whatever Hawk's saying is. What is the purpose of you posting these sentiments for the 186th time this week? -

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Sep 20, 2012 -> 02:25 PM) Well there was that one leak or story where KW admitted that he talked to JR about his future with the club and whether he should still be with them. Yeah, but I thought that was based on the premise that the team was no longer succeeding... -

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Sep 20, 2012 -> 02:21 PM) I've actually thought that this was most likely all planned out prior to this season, and with all the Ozzie drama that JR wanted KW to be around for 1 more year in charge before handing off to Hahn. My guess is that KW is burnt out a bit from the job, and when he asked JR if he should be let go, that they came to a gentleman's agreement over this. Just my 2 cents. Hard for me to agree Kenny being "let go" would be on the table considering where he currently has the Club... -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 20, 2012 -> 02:21 PM) Mark Gonzales @MDGonzales From Sox notes: Konerko batting .237 in his last 42 games and .257 since his average was at .399 on May 27. But he's still hitting over .300 for the season!!!!

9/19 White Sox at Royals

QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Sep 19, 2012 -> 10:59 PM) We only 2 hits in one inning one time. And yet we still could have won 2-1. But yeah, they were pretty scattered tonight. Youk killed us tonight as well. How does one guy get 4 hits and you still get shutout? -

QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 19, 2012 -> 09:57 PM) The KC outfield defense makes the Sox into a station-to-station team more than any other opponent the Sox play. Yeah, but even still, we had doubles and triples tonight...we just didn't get them we needed them. And station-to-station would have worked just fine in the 4th had we gotten a few productive outs out of Dayan and Ramirez. -

QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ Sep 19, 2012 -> 09:53 PM) We don't get on base. Lets not just assume it's poor effort, when we in fact lost the way one would expect us to lose. The shocker would be games where we pitch poorly, or fail with the glove. Those have been our strengths. We stranded like 10 baserunners tonight. We had guys on base. We haven't been able to score runs without hitting the home run. That's what it has been boiling down to.
