  1. QUOTE (black jack @ Mar 8, 2011 -> 06:28 PM) Question for someone smarter than I am: I had to reformat my IMac. Stupidly, I didn't save my Itunes catalog. Now all of my music is on my Ipod, but not my computer. I can't add to or create song lists. Is it possible to transfer my Itunes catalog from my Ipod to my Imac? I tried everything I could think of and was only able to transfer the music I actually purchased off the Apple website. Everything I burned off cd's and stuff I couldn't figure out. Any ideas? thanks in advance.... Do some google searches and you'll find some answers. I think you can plug in your iPod though and upload everything into iTunes again somehow though.
  2. Led Zeppelin's Coda was my first vinyl album, followed shortly thereafter by Michael Jackson's Thriller. I can understand not caring for LZ, as I don't really care for the Beatles, but to not respect the impact they had on rock music is being a bit closed-minded. Tough to respect someone's musical opinion whatsoever if there is not at least a begrudging respect for such a huge pioneer in the industry.
  3. Interesting stuff I just stumbled across... Hybrid/EV/Conventional High MPG?
  4. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Mar 8, 2011 -> 08:13 AM) The only reason I'm even considering this in the future is for the massive fuel efficiency savings. If I have to stay all gasoline, I'm sticking with my real Jeep, the 4 door Rubicon...you'd not catch me driving a soccer mom Jeep like the Grand Cherokee sans the hybrid like MPG savings... As it stands, for highway driving, I get 18-20mpg with my current Jeep, around 16 in the city. I bought a brand new Jeep Wrangler Sahara back in '99. Loved the vehicle, so I know where you are coming from. But damn if you don't think it should get better mpg when you're driving a vehicle of that size. Sounds like if you have off road demands like you do, you're going to have to put up with the 20-ish mpg for quite a while.
  5. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Mar 7, 2011 -> 05:35 PM) Unfortunately you're looking in a market that probably won't see a hybrid edition for at least a few years. Jeep had tried a diesel version of the Grand Cherokee but that was discontinued, and all-elecrtic versions were talked about but nothing seemed to materialize. My guess is that for those who are intending to use a Jeep as an offroader just don't care about gas mileage and there is no market for that. Yeah, just get the new Grand Cherokee like Rock has, and live with the average mpg...
  6. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Mar 7, 2011 -> 05:07 PM) Big enough for long road trips, for 3 peoples cloths, canoe, tents, fishing gear, food, odds/ends, etc...basically, as big as a 4 door Jeep, etc. In other words, A REAL sized SUV, not a fake mini-suv like most of those hybrid suv's I'm seeing on these websites. I do not consider, for example, a Jeep Liberty to be a full sized SUV, it's too small and you'd be better off buying a regular car (as they have the same amount of room in them). Also, for me, the SUV has to be an SUV that won't fall apart if I bring it off road (which I do with my Jeep). If it's driven by soccer moms, I'd tear it's axels off in about 5 minutes when I drive off road to get to some of my favorite lakes in Wisconsin that don't have paved roads leading to them. How many miles are you thinking you'd put on it in one year? Like you said, it's probably just not going to be worth it at this point.
  7. Have you guys seen that new Lexus CT Hybrid? Gets 42mpg and starts at like $30k? Can get it loaded up pretty good for $35k. Really nice car, some decent room in it too...
  8. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Mar 6, 2011 -> 09:26 AM) But why skimp? So you can come out with another one in 9 months that is exactly like this one but with a good camera? It's not like there's a limitation in camera technology that's preventing them from adding something decent. My guess is they had to make some compromises so they could keep the same price points as the original iPad.
  9. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 5, 2011 -> 04:53 PM) Apparently it's not even as good as the 3G camera. My guess is they're most concerned about FaceTime, and could care less about photos. Honestly, you're going to use this big rectangle to go around taking photos?
  10. QUOTE (jasonxctf @ Mar 5, 2011 -> 10:11 PM) my wife and i have two diesel cars. she's had hers for a bit over a year. what i've noticed is that diesel prices move slower, in both directions, over time. so as gas prices have gone up recently, it took about 2 months for diesel to go up as much as unleaded. there was a time out in geneva, this past winter, where diesel was cheaper than 87. 3.25 vs 3.29. On the highway, diesel rocks. Drove from Lisle to Gurnee on Friday and got 44mpg's going 75mph. No sacrifices on power, weight or interior. Interesting. I am looking at SUVs and Audi makes a diesel Q7 that I am considering. How is the overall performance, Jason?
  11. QUOTE (jasonxctf @ Mar 5, 2011 -> 12:26 PM) i keep beating this drum.. but also look at the clean diesel cars from the german mftrs. (vw, audi, mb, etc) my diesel jetta gets around 10mpg more than the non-diesel. $3.70 for diesel vs $3.50 for normal. Diesel = 9.4 cents/mile Normal= 12.0 cents/mile plus filling up every 550 miles is pretty neat. Yeah, I was going to mention I would rather just get a diesel SUV than a hybrid, but I wasn't sure of how the diesel market reacts in comparison to regular gasoline.
  12. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 5, 2011 -> 10:05 AM) At least with the present situation, that's where the real savings are. Everyone's used to looking at miles per gallon, but if you want to understand the savings, you have to look at gallons per mile (Or gallons per 1000 miles, something like that). A Prius might average 40 mpg, which puts it at 25 gallons per 1000 miles. Without the hybrid system, it might average 30 mpg, which would put it at 33 gallons per 1000 miles. Saves 8 gallons for a 10 mpg increase. A normal SUV might average 13 MPG, which would put it at 77 gallons per 1000 miles. But if you push that to 18 mpg, you drop to 56 gallons per 1000 miles, so you save 21 gallons for a 5 mpg increase. Project each of those up to 10,000 miles/full year, and while the Prius might save 80 gallons of gas over the year, the SUV would save 200+. At $4 a gallon, that's $800 a year for a small decrease in mpg. The GMC Yukon Hybrid is rated at 20/23 (city/highway), compared to 15/20 for the regular Yukon. The Toyota Highlander hybrid is rated at 28/28, compared to 20/25 in the regular version. Unfortunately, the Yukon Hybrid runs about $6-7k more than a similarly equipped non-hybrid Yukon. So you're talking about a 6-8 year recapture on a 10k miles per year car. Obviously, as you drive more, or the price of gas increases, you're seeing a faster recapture time.
  13. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 2, 2011 -> 10:09 PM) The difference between hybrid and not in the FEH is like $3800. Tax break was $3000. Mileage difference is variable depending on whether you are comparing two new cars (i.e. you are buying a new one regardless), or comparing to your previous car at its mileage. Paying off an $800 difference was actually well under a year for us if compared to the previous car (also a small to medium SUV), more like 1.5 years comparing the two models. Where it doesn't make sense is in the new luxury hybrid SUV's, where the difference is like $10k or more. But I don't think those people are buying the hybrid model because they are concerned about the recapture time.
  14. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 2, 2011 -> 02:20 PM) Theres some other bits and pieces, nothing all that great other than a faster safari (I dont think its slow anyway) How are you doing that with your iphone now??? I think this iPad will attract a lot of the skeptics that held off from buying the original, but won't convince too many current owners to go out and slap down another several hundred dollars. I still love the original enough that I certainly am not motivated to get this version. This is sort of similar to owning the iPhone and then holding off on when the 3G and 3GS version came out, but being convinced to go get the Iphone 4...I'll wait for that type of upgrade before I replace this current iPad.
  15. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 1, 2011 -> 12:33 PM) Shack take a pic of her with your puppy I will get on this at my earliest opportunity.
  16. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Mar 1, 2011 -> 07:11 AM) Just ran into her as I was walking him this morning when her cab pulled up and dropped her off from work...she ran to us and grabbed him and kept saying "you need a mommy too, you need a mommy too!"
  17. Have had my pup for about 10 days now. Ran into my new neighbor with him today. She offered her babysitting services and gave me her number. Turns out she is a dancer at Spearmint Rhino. Good dog, good dog.
  18. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 26, 2011 -> 03:11 PM) Well, my f***ing blockbuster is shutting down. Guess im going to have to invest in some new technology. I have a Blockbuster mail account. They are very quick with the turnaround and have a ton of Blu Ray titles. They also are putting the Redbox type machines around town now.
  19. Thanks guys! I'm enjoying it here at work tonight
  20. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Feb 25, 2011 -> 05:41 PM) If MLB didn't have its stupid rules, you'd be able to stream mlb.tv through a Roku box to your TV. http://www.roku.com/mlb-partner Someone will figure out a way around this...and when they do, I'll be sold.
  21. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Feb 23, 2011 -> 11:31 AM) Just moved last week and we're going to give Clear internet a shot, along with forgoing cable/satellite in favor of Netflix, OTA HDTV and maybe something like Roku with Hulu Plus. So far, Clear's been working pretty well. Not as fast as our old Comcast connection, but it's cheaper and I don't have to pay Comcast. It can still stream HD-quality movies and shows from Netflix. edit: thinking about picking up Amazon Prime as well, depending on their offerings and if there's anything they have that Netflix doesn't. A year of that is the same price as a month of cable. Very interested in this endeavor. Keep us posted. What does a decent HDTV antenna cost? I spend a fortune on DirecTV, and while I do watch quite a bit of tv, whether it be sports, or stuff on my DVR, I am very interested in going an alternative route. Would love to hear what your observations ultimately end up being.
  22. Reggie Miller, as much as I hated him as a player, is an outstanding broadcaster.

    2011 TV Thread

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Feb 24, 2011 -> 02:23 PM) That's funny because I've been doing the same. I'm about half way through season 3 right now. The first handful of episodes in season 2 were excruciatingly boring, IMO. Other than that though it's been great. Yeah, it took me a few to get into season 1, but once I got to about episode 4, it really picked up. I have no idea what to expect for season 2...is it based in Baltimore again? If so, is it the same police characters?
