  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 19, 2010 -> 04:18 PM) The story has always been that they had been trying to work out a trade to get him, and they couldn't come to an agreement. Knowing the way Williams deals, I would bet money he was offering prospects in order to get TOR to put some cash into the deal. The question isn't whether we wanted Rios, it is if we wanted to give up good minor leaguers to get TOR to potentially throw in some cash, or if we would have been better in the long run getting him for nothing and paying full price. Probably so. I sure hope he can get back to where he was. Should he, it's like acquiring a young all-star caliber player that everyone has already forgotten about.
  2. QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 19, 2010 -> 03:40 PM) to me, its not a matter of too good to pass up, its amatter of would you rather start with a 104 million dollar team with a better shot at winning the division, or a 101 million dollar team with a huge hole I really hope the reason they are holding out is because they think they still have a chance to complete a trade. Otherwise, I couldn't agree more with you...it would be unforgivable in my eyes to not sign Thome at what is probably $2-3 million at this point.
  3. Qwerty, I am still waiting for your personal choice for our DH slot, my friend?
  4. I used to like the Mets a lot when I was a kid. I loved Daryl Strawberry and Doc Gooden and that 86' that beat the Sawks. I used to wear my beat-up Mets cap into Wrigley field once in a while and honestly had several adult men be legitimately mean to me. So that only made me cheer for them more and dislike the Cubs more. I also like the Dodgers, as I can watch the games here in Vegas and listen to Vin Scully work his magic. Can't really bring myself to enjoy another AL team.
  5. QUOTE (Felix @ Jan 16, 2010 -> 07:03 PM) Anyone listen to the Dead Weather? Just listened to Horehound last night, and it's pretty good. I generally enjoy most of Jack White's projects and this is no different. Feels a lot like the White Stripes, but I really like the vocalist (Alison Mosshart). I definitely suggest it to anyone who enjoys White's various other projects. Similar in quality to The Raconteurs?
  6. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 18, 2010 -> 09:20 PM) Correct, being a cowboys fan you are giving credit to the other team instead of being critical of one of your favorite players. If you want to call that "knowing what you are talking about" by all means continue. The fact is Tony Romo did not play well. However, he and the Cowboy's offense has been unstoppable for the better part of the last 6 weeks or so. Did he have an off game, probably so. But the Vikings managed to do something no other defense has managed to do recently, and I have to think that had more to do with their pressure than Tony Romo suddenly turning into a piece of crap.

    QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 17, 2010 -> 03:04 PM) Yeah, for chair dips and help on your chin ups. You wont be able to do the entire back workouts without a chair. Rock, are you doing the ab ripper too?
  8. QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 18, 2010 -> 03:09 PM) cust was re-signed, no? Yep.
  9. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 18, 2010 -> 02:29 PM) I've already been awarded Asshole Poster of the Year, just a reminder. I think you may have been awarded that distinction for the entire decade, if I recall correctly...
  10. QUOTE (G&T @ Jan 18, 2010 -> 06:02 AM) I completely forgot about Culvers (I don't live within 700 miles of one). That's easily the best I've had. Plus they have cheese curds. Awesome. Yeah, the cheese curds are incredible. A family-size order of cheese curds and a chocolate shake on a Sunday in the Fall cannot be beat, my friends...
  11. QUOTE (ChWRoCk2 @ Jan 18, 2010 -> 09:07 AM) I think whomever wins the Saints vs. Vikings game will win the Superbowl. I still don't think the Colts are that good. I have a feeling the Colts are going to be sorry they late the Jets into the playoffs and think the Jets might win that game. If Revis shuts down Wayne it is basically over. Given as much as the Colts throw to Garcon and Clark and Collie, why would it be over if Revis shuts down Wayne? Now don't get me wrong, I saw how the Jets shut down the Chargers last night, but let's not mistake Peyton Manning, quite possibly the best quarterback of all time, with Philip Rivers. I guess we'll just have to wait and see...

    Watched State of Play tonight. Pretty solid.
  13. QUOTE (SockMe @ Jan 17, 2010 -> 10:22 PM) I just got a new phone, what are some must have songs? I'm currently digging "Faster Ride" by Cartel.
  14. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Jan 17, 2010 -> 09:58 PM) This was in response to me saying Thome doesnt do tons with the bat besides hitting a HR. How is a walk something you do with the bat? It's the opposite of that. Honestly, I don't care if he does it with Jedi mind tricks, if it helps us win on the baseball field, what the hell does it matter?
  15. We have both Fatburger and In N' Out Burger here in Vegas. I honestly don't eat burgers that often, so when my buddy came to visit a few months ago from Chicago, he insisted we go to In N' Out. I must say, the burger was quite delicious. However, the fries were for s***. I just can't rank a burger place #1 if their fries are that weak. What about Culver's? I think Fatburger takes the cake for me with the franchises/chains, but nothing beats a solid burger from a hole in the wall joint like McDivot's on Lagrange Rd...

    QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 15, 2010 -> 02:03 PM) the bands should be ok to start, the body weight exercises is what gets you. Went to Dick's yesterday and got all my stuff. Ended up getting a yoga mat, some resistance bands, the pull-up bar, and a set of perfect pushups. Rock, do you really have to have a chair? I don't really have normal chairs in my condo...
  17. QUOTE (CryptviLL @ Jan 16, 2010 -> 02:50 PM) The basketball/gofl/tennis sports are the obvious ones . Was hoping for more competitive unknown games. Cornhole/beanbags is probably your best bet then. Or Bocce. Lawn darts or "jarts."
  18. QUOTE (Tex @ Jan 16, 2010 -> 02:41 PM) Naked Golf, Naked tennis, Naked basketball, Naked baseball . . . Naked Surfing, Naked sailing, Naked fishing, Naked camping . . . Naked Washers, corn hole, Naked horseshoes, . . . Fixed.

    QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 15, 2010 -> 01:24 PM) The bar is pretty important and actually just upgraded to the set of adjustable weights by bowflex and its really stepped up my workout this time around. Yeah, I'm looking at the Bowflex set as well as the Powerblock set. Think I may start out with the bands first to make sure I like the program, then go with the adj dumbbells down the road if I stick with the program.

    Just got a digital copy of this from my coworker's portable drive. Looking into purchasing the equipment now. Rock, I have read your comments in this thread. It appears as though you are suggesting the pull-up bar and bands as opposed to bands and weights. I was told one could buy the bands in lieu of the pull up bar, not the weights. Would you say though that the bar is pretty important to have? Just curious.
  21. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 14, 2010 -> 07:46 PM) It will be from now on, lol I always think of luge lessons in Rangoon...
  22. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 14, 2010 -> 06:40 PM) LMAO, what? C'mon! That wasn't the first thing that came to mind?
  23. QUOTE (joeynach @ Jan 14, 2010 -> 12:33 AM) The money does not leave the organization. One of my parents friends is a shareholder. The owners own equity in the team, the dont get cash from profit, they are not on payroll. The only way a shareholder or owner makes hard cash from their ownership is if they were to sell their stake in the organization. That is where the increased value of the team is important. Being worth 450 Million instead of 300 Mil makes your shares worth more when sold. The actualy money the team makes goes into the organization as a whole. Payroll, player development, spring training facilities, stadium upgrades, front office payroll/benefits, insurance, services, etc. All those things are paid for by the cash they take in. If there is any cash leftover at the end it is simply added to an area of need or held on to (assumably earning interest) until a need is found. Where do you think the money comes from for mid-season acquisitions or to pay for the supposed new bar/restaurant area outside Gate 5. Shocking.
  24. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jan 12, 2010 -> 05:57 PM) I would probably say that is possible but I don't think that is part of Canseco's discussin. From what I 've read he took only synthetic anabolic steriods. The poster earlier also referenced that "steroids help improve vision" and that is what I based my comments upon. In Game of Shadows, the book that tells the story of Bonds and Balco, the Cream and the Clear, and other Balco variations are the substances mostly attributed to improve vision.
  25. I don't know about you guys, but my hopes in regards to OV's contributions have a lot more to do with Alexei and Gordo than what his own contributions will be off the bench. Lilli certainly would not be helping in that way.
