  1. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 5, 2010 -> 07:33 AM) He got real big about 1993/1994. I remember him on Letterman saying he weighed 285. I guess he has a couple of sister who check in over 3 bills. Hah, thanks for the early morning chuckle, DA!
  2. According to Peter Gammons, Beltre to Red Sox, 1 year, $9 million, with a player option for $5 million next year?
  3. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 4, 2010 -> 11:36 AM) Not saying you're wrong. I just think that you look at the history, and usually you get 1 top 2 team and 1 more surprising team in there. Yeah, I know that. But I'm not going to change my opinion just because historically, this doesn't happen often.
  4. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 4, 2010 -> 10:43 AM) It's way too easy to predict a super bowl involving either the 1/2 seed from each conference. How often does that actually happen? Well, I'm sorry, but that's who I like to go. I'm certainly not suggesting you go out and bet on those teams.
  5. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 4, 2010 -> 09:39 AM) Looking at the AFC, I think the Colts & Chargers will have some serious rooting interests in the Ravens/Pats game. Playing the winner of Jets/Bengals sounds much more appealing than facing either the Ravens (Colts) or the Patriots (Chargers). My early pick now is the Chargers to make it out of the AFC, look like the best team and have been playing the best football. The NFC looks tough, I can see almost any team making it out of there. As much as the Vikings have struggled, they have been unstoppable at home in the dome, and think they will take it, especially if Dallas or someone can knock off NO in the second round. Chargers/Vikings super bowl, I think the Chargers win that game, the Bolts finally get their Super Bowl! I think the Saints are going to be pretty tough to beat at home as well, and I think it'll be awfully tough for Dallas to go into NO and beat them there again. I like Indy/NO
  6. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 4, 2010 -> 09:32 AM) That's probably the right way to do it I could live with that. As much as I would love to see Shanahan reunited with Cutler, it appears it's just going to cost too much money to fire Lovie and bring in a top-notch head coach this season.
  7. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 4, 2010 -> 09:42 AM) There's always one other issue...who is to say that if he'd played earlier, he might not have known the system/routes as well and might have struggled more. We hear a lot about the Bears's staff and their inability to develop young talent at the skill positions, now we see a guy who appears to be developing before our eyes and we're still not satisfied. He showed the same sort of potential in the preseason, if I recall correctly, which is why I think Cutler thought he would be a valuable weapon. I know he fought some injuries and that held him back a bit, but I think he was available much earlier than when injuries forced him into action...
  8. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 4, 2010 -> 08:09 AM) Don't know the other 2, but Aromashodu appears to be a classic NFL case; guy with some physical skills and talent who bounces around to a number of teams, getting exposed to playbooks and learning a few teams at each stop, deals with an injury or two, and finally finds a situation where things start to click. He's been hurt for part of the year I'm told, and it's entirely possible that he may just not have been ready until the last few games. I think he was healthy for more games than he's played. The fact that we've heard from several sources now that Cutler has been lobbying for him to play more seems to indicate that he was available, but was not being utilized.
  9. QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Jan 4, 2010 -> 12:07 AM) I don't think there is much pressure to make the major trade before the season. Let's fill out the roster for now, and then look to add that bigger piece during the season. For now, I'm just really curious to see what Andruw Jones is gonna bring to the table. He could turn into cheap lightning. I like that. I think I'm going to start referring to Jones as "cheap lightning."
  10. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jan 3, 2010 -> 10:10 PM) Don't forget the Sox were rumored to be in the Yuneisky Maya sweepstakes. Sweepstakes?

    Remember when...?

Once you left your house you couldn't contact your friends about where you were or how you would meet them at a certain place because there were no cell phones?
  12. QUOTE (SouthsideDon48 @ Jan 3, 2010 -> 12:19 AM) Wow, congratulations to Floyd! This is awesome. I'm happy he's getting married, because I actually thought he was gay. But not that that wouldn't be alright if he was...
  13. My guess is Scottie was trying to peddle his wares for the same price, and they chose Byrd over Pods.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 31, 2009 -> 06:57 PM) all I can say is he must have an incredible sense of humor. He has been funny in the movies I have seen him in, but that boy is a little leaguer playing in the majors Or an incredible something else... Honestly, this is a good thing. It shows that chicks value things other than appearance much more so than men. We can continue to be superficial assholes in the meantime.
  15. QUOTE (qwerty @ Dec 31, 2009 -> 01:30 AM) Kila ka'aihue does not excite me in the very least. I cannot see him putting up anything more than a .750 ops in a full season worth of play in the major leagues. I do not know the answer to our hole (i have a preference), but i 'm fairly certain he is not the answer short term, and especially not long term, for any term around the majors, especially our white sox. Who is your preference, Q?
  16. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 30, 2009 -> 09:24 PM) Supposedly the Tigers have some interest. That would be very disappointing to me. I don't know if Ozzie just refuses to have this guy on the roster, or if Jimmy has higher demands that we think, but having the Tigers make the smart move by signing a cheap, productive LH bat would really rub me the wrong way.
  17. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 30, 2009 -> 08:52 PM) Not surprising to me. Jim Thome has to be the most disrespected (good player) in the history of Soxtalk. It baffles me the number of "anybody but Thome" posts I've seen of late. That leads me to believe most people just want to see something different, regardless of if it's a legitimate upgrade or not, at DH in 2010. But he's slow, and he strikes out...and jeesh, all he does is hit home runs...

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 30, 2009 -> 06:27 AM) When Danny McBride was showing off his hotel model I was laughing, that was really funny to me. He said something about retiring to one of the towers with his bride, and if they pissed him off then he would banish them to the other tower. Yeah, I like how he said it would have 8,000 rooms. This is funny, because as a Vegas resident, MGM is one of the biggest hotels in the world (if not the biggest), and it has around 4,500 rooms.

I've not read any of it, but I must say I have a thing for pale brunettes. Kate Beckinsale, Ashley Greene, Jennifer Connelly....mmmmm
  21. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Dec 29, 2009 -> 03:34 PM) I know the Mets don't have the greatest luck with FA signings, but I really like this move. Bay is a very productive player. That NL East is going to be tough again, the Phils, Mets, Braves and Marlins all have a chance at being very good, and the Nats made a few moves in the pen to make them at least pesty. The move blocks Fernando Martinez, who has been heralded as one of the better prospects for 3 years now. While his stock has fallen a bit, considering they have refused to trade him in recent years, it seems a bit odd to block him now with a high-priced, terrible defensive LF in a very big Citi Field.
  22. QUOTE (MurcieOne @ Dec 29, 2009 -> 06:47 PM) Briggs probably going on reputation alone. Really? I thought Briggs had an awesome year. Many of those games it was Lance Briggs tackles the opposing player or no one does...

I watched Land of the Lost today. Really, really stupid, but I just laugh everytime I see Will Ferrell do anything. And Danny McBride is pretty funny as well. Even though both of them seem to reprise the same roles over and over, I can't get enough of them when I need a little cheering up.
  24. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 30, 2009 -> 12:26 AM) Many of us would be quite happy if we had 2005 Everett/Thomas as our DH instead of Jones/Kotsay. And that's not really a compliment to Crazy Carl, who must be happy he has Avatar to watch now in his retirement. I'll bet he would enjoy Land of the Lost

Titanic is one of the most compelling stories in modern history. While the love story had a lot of women coming back for 2 and 3 screenings, the raw popularity of the story amongst the public drew masses of people to the theater that had not been in years. As for Avatar, the hype is definitely inflating the numbers a bit, but despite the somewhat predictable plot, I think this is the first movie that really supported technologically the idea of being in a different world, amongst aliens, etc. I don't honestly know how you could come away from that movie and not be impressed. Cameron is the first filmmaker who has been able to produce the visual effects and experience that our imaginations have been thinking up for decades. There is definitely something to that.
