  1. QUOTE (Ranger @ Jan 21, 2010 -> 12:32 PM) I think this is a possibility worth exploring, but not because of wanting to keep Kotsay out of the lineup. If they felt that doing something like this would keep quentin healthier, I'd be all for it. The only concern with having Quentin as a primary DH is that I'm not sure it's the best thing in the world for him to go straight to the bench after an AB. It might do a guy like him some good to get his butt back on the field after a strikeout so he can forget about it. I don't know that they want him stewing on the bench for 3 innings until he comes up to the plate again. That is a great point. However, he's going to have to learn to control his temper. I could practically hear him screaming the F-bomb here in Las Vegas after popping out to center.
  2. I won't even bother. I am fairly well-educated, and I am still horrible at that game. My brain just doesn't seem to want to work well with the show's format...
  3. So from what I hear, this Rob Chudzinski character would be a good fit for us? He has a fairly impressive resume, including some great TE work at the U, with Gates at SD, and in Cleveland with Winslow. He also was the OC for that Cleveland team that went 10-6 and just missed the playoffs. That offense was the 8th rated offense in both scoring and yardage in the league that year. Sounds like a good fit to me. Would probably help Olsen and an offense based upon a lot of throws to the TEs.
  4. QUOTE (CryptviLL @ Jan 21, 2010 -> 11:52 AM) Ok - Appreciate the input. I will have an off day today. 6 Days will be a limit, I've been thinking of tinkering with that for a while now. How much do you run a day? My average is about 3.5 per day. You think It'd be better to do 5 milers 5 days a week or 4 miles 6 days a week? Awesome:) Awesome, just had 12 . Sounds good - I might try to find some protein shake or something. Thanks for the insight, especially into the P90X I just ordered the Muscle Milk Light powder after reading some stuff in the protein shake thread as well as doing some independent research. I don't have time to go to the store 3 times a week to be buying all the fresh fruits, so I was looking for a synthetic formula to compliment my reasonable diet. We'll see how it works.
  5. Piniero to Angels - 2/$16 million Dotel to Pirates - 1/$3 million?
  6. I just started the P90X routine, and I am telling you, if you're already in tremendous shape in terms of being "fit," this is probably perfect for you. Do the classic routine and concentrate on doing larger weights with less repetitions (8-10) to add bulk. However, you're going to have to also make sure you're getting enough protein for your muscles to grow and add the bulk you are looking for. Your diet sounds solid, with the exception of what I mentioned above - you probably are not getting a high quantity of protein, so look into adding more chicken, fish, eggs, peanut butter, nuts - like you mentioned. As for the cookies, I really think you should allow yourself a few pleasures in life, as long as you do so in moderation. And since you are running every day and plan on starting a workout plan, having some cookies is certainly not going to do enough to make a difference. As I said, I have just started the P90X routine, and every muscle in my body is sore. But it's a good sore. The kind of sore where you feel like you're re-awakening all the dormant muscles in your body that you've allowed to get too comfortable while you sat on the couch and ate fritos kind of sore. Everything I've read says if you truly do what the program asks you to do, and I'm not saying to go as far as hurting yourself, but push yourself and give it your best shot every day, you will get bigger and stronger. Your build will definitely break out of just that lean look and you will add tone and definition. And after the 90 days if you'd still like to get bigger, you can try adding more weight to add on more bulk.
  7. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 21, 2010 -> 11:19 AM) There's one other possible solution to this issue...find a LH batter who can DH and also play the infield some. I don't know how his health is, but this is why my head keeps coming back to Blalock. Well, I am more concerned about the MI than the CI positions. In a pinch, Gordo can always play third, along with Vizquel...It's just the idea of only having 1 guy who can play MI after the starters that bothers me...
  8. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jan 21, 2010 -> 11:13 AM) You cut Nix. No question about it. Let him find a job somewhere else, and if he doesn't you outright him to AAA. See, for some reason, the idea of being left with just Vizquel and Kotsay as reserve infielders frightens me. I'm not sure if it frightens me more or less than having Jones/Kotsay as out DH though.... Let's just hope that Ozzie and Kenny are really j/k with this Jones/Kotsay thing...
  9. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 21, 2010 -> 10:41 AM) You make the perfect point here. Sit him against lefties, start Andruw vs righties. If one of them gets hot, well, there's your DH. That could be an incredibly effective combination at the DH spot for a total of what? 2.5 million dollars? Bringing back Big Jim at this point is a no-brainer. Well, the question is, then what do you carry on your roster? Do you only carry an 11 man pen? Or do you cut Nix from the 25 man? As it currently stands, we're looking at the following: 8 regular position players 2 DH's in Kotsay & Jones 3 bench players in Vizquel, Castro, & Nix 5 starting pitchers 7 men in the bullpen =25 man roster If you sign Thome now, you'll have to cut Nix or go to a 6 man bullpen and leave Hudson in Charlotte, most likely.
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 21, 2010 -> 09:11 AM) Not to mention the argument has been completely destroyed in detail. I've written this before, and I am going to write it again, as I really think it's the best analogy one can make regarding this situation: The White Sox have credit cards and use their income to pay those credit cards off, in full for the most part, from month to month. The White Sox say they have little or no more money, but could make an acquisition (and put that player on their "credit card") if an impact player was out there for the right price and he was the right fit for the Club. What DA is asking them to do is max out their credit cards every month/season. Spend EVERY AVAILABLE dollar. It's just ridiculous.
  11. QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Jan 21, 2010 -> 01:43 AM) Who? The Thomer...
  12. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Jan 20, 2010 -> 10:18 PM) $100 a ticket for the games vs CUBS? OUCH! Let's face it, these games, by far, offer the most desired ticket of any games on our schedule. If you've ever been to one, it's very clear that those sitting in the premium seats are the more wealthy and well-connected of Chicagoans. Raising the price to $100 should do very little to scare away these people. May as well make the money where and when you can.
  13. QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 20, 2010 -> 09:57 PM) And I really don't even think it's close. Best fiction Best interviews Best drink database Clean presentation I love this magazine. I have a backlog of them for when I get home. But I read them now online, and their web site is fantastic, as well. Yep. I actually get both Esquire and GQ. I think they are extremely similar, in terms of presentation, content, viewpoint, etc. In fact, unless I am looking at the cover, I can't really tell which of the two I am reading at the time I am sitting on the crapper.
  14. QUOTE (Tex @ Jan 20, 2010 -> 05:50 PM) To someone facing the same choice as the Tebow's faced, and my heart goes out to them, there is some value in the message. Perhaps seeing what other women (perhaps couples) have gone through may be of some help and assistance. I'm surprised Soxy does not see any value in examples, both pro and con. Seeing others that have been through the same thing someone is facing can be wonderful support. I thought that is one basis for group therapy, but I may have been sleeping that day in class. Do you think someone with ALS might look towards Lou Gehrig for some inspiration? Someone with a terminal disease reading about Brian Piccolo or Walter Payton. From cancer survivors to weight loss champions, there is value in that. If the debate raises awareness regarding birth control and unwanted pregnancy, it has served a useful purpose. I have no words for those that believe abortion is a reasonable form of birth control. I do not believe someone should have to give up their rights of free speech because they are famous. Who are you to tell someone who to vote for? Who are you to share your opinion on a message board? Who are you to speak about anything? You are a human being and you should have that right. Just as we have the right to ignore you. Tim Tebow is someone who has an opinion and by stating his opinion, he can make a much bigger difference, good and bad, than other people. I believe he should be careful in how he uses that power, as I would say to anyone else. Who are the athletes that advocate for staying in school, not smoking or doing drugs. Isn't that a personal choice? I can't believe this ad gets people more upset than all the violence towards women on TV and in video games. Urging a woman to choose life over death -- Bad. Killing or raping a few women for hours in a video game? Cool And it's not like he's a random spokesperson. What a shame that so many toss away our right to free speech so easily. The entire point is that this is not some simple decision. This is NOT like Danica Patrick trying to sell me a domain name. This is NOT like some sports-playing clydesdales trying to sell me beer. This is NOT Britney Spears trying to sell me a soft drink. The reason those messages work so well in a commercial forum is that the messages are inspiring us to do something extremely trivial. Something that should take about 30 seconds of thought to decide on. Something that if I make an error in judgment, because I believed everything that was said or portrayed in the 30 seconds, will only result in me having wasted a few bucks and experiencing a beer I really didn't like. What Tim Tebow, his mother, and this organization are attempting to do is sell us their beliefs and their product in 30 seconds, just like Doritos, GoDaddy.com, and Anheuser-Busch. However, their message is much more serious, much more impactful, much more personal, and MUCH MORE COMPLEX than something that fits well in between a Doritos commercial, a Pepsi Commercial, and a bunch of families and friends sitting around the living room trying to forget about what a crappy world we live in right now. Instead, I have to sit and listen to Tim Tebow, some holy rolling jock, tell me that if my wife or mother or girlfriend or whomever, is facing medical risk due to a pregnancy, that she should gamble with her life in the hopes of birthing the next Heisman Trophy winner. Well, I'm sorry, that message just isn't meant to be given in 30 seconds to a bunch of Americans trying to enjoy themselves on a Sunday afternoon/evening. And who the f*** am I, you ask? Well I'm not going on tv telling other people what to do. I'm not trying to shove my beliefs down the minds of others by putting my big mug in front of them in a forum traditionally saved for selling $3 bags of chips and guilt-tripping pregnant mothers with risk of injury or their lives to do what I tell them to do. Tim Tebow has every right to his opinion, and he can try and use him fame and notoriety to make as much wealth or do as much good as his little heart desires. But don't use it for the wrong reasons, and don't try and turn something so complex as a medical risk decision into a damned 30 second guilt trip during a day which is traditionally a carefree and fun day for Americans. As for your point about violence and sex on tv and in video games, there is a time and place for everything. The world as we live in it is not a perfect place. It involves violence and sex and some bad things. The best we can do, other than shelter our children from it until adulthood (so that they freak out when they encounter it in reality), is to compartmentalize it into a certain place where parents know where to expect it, and therefore have a chance to make a decision about whether to allow their children to consume it on their own. What the Tebow's and this organization are doing, is springing themselves on an American public hoping to enjoy an afternoon of football and creative advertising, along with family and friends, without them expecting it. Then perhaps all the children watching the game will start asking questions, and young couples faced with the decision will think, well, the Tebow's did it, and look how Tim turned out (I know, I exaggerate). Honestly, there is a time and a place for this message, and it is not during the Super Bowl. And finally, what do you say to the widowed husband, whose wife took the pregnancy to term and passed-away during labor, leaving him with 2 small children and no wife or mother? Should he do the commercial for the next Super Bowl? Maybe we can have him on the screen with pictures of his dead wife and his mourning children. Sound good?

Ok, did Shoulders & Arms today. So far this has been the easiest of the workouts. But still, now I think EVERY muscle in my body is sore. I'm holding off on the ab ripper until I feel like I am in good enough shape to actually accomplish something. Right now I am so tired after the main workouts that the ab ripper would be me basically flopping around on the ground...
  16. Talk about calling guys out. All we need is for Kobe to pull a hamstring and miss two months afterwards for this to become a mess.
  17. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 20, 2010 -> 05:18 PM) They were saying back when the original change happened, the times were moved back 4 minutes. Although I dont remember 7:15 gametime starts They used to begin at :07 after the hour.
  18. QUOTE (Controlled Chaos @ Jan 20, 2010 -> 03:46 PM) I don't know...I see the difference. One is promoting religion. This is the pc world we live in. Unless I'm missing them we don't see ads for other denominations either. Religion is just too controversial and they just stay away. So are most political messages. I don't see abortion as a political message. It's a social message. Children working labor jobs and saying "Guess who's going to pay off President Bush's $1 trillion deficit?" is a political message. One that is pretty relevant today with the switch of a name and dollar amount...but it still wouldn't get approved. I don't know the Tebow ad yet...I guess it might turn out to be controversial. But as of right now all know is people saying it's an anti-abortion message. But WTF is wrong with that?? I don't get it. If the message isn't about reversing roe v wade or changing law or whatever...what is the problem? If the message isn't about taking away a womens right to choose, where's the controversy. The pro-choice movement is about having the choice not having an abortion. I mean, in essence it's like people saying....I'm mad...choose an abortion!! Maybe a pro-lifer can help a guy stuck in the middle such as myself. Cause I don't get it. If the tebow ad is like...doctors told my mom to terminate she didnt yada yada yada Im fine. choose life. What is the problem?? Do we want a commercial that says choose abortion?? Honestly, I think it is the fact that it is Tebow and his family that are the ones presenting a message. Similar to what Soxy posted earlier. Who the f*** are Tim Tebow and his mother to try and influence me on such a personal, intimate decision such as that? Basically, they are trying to capitalize on Tebow's accomplishments as an amatuer football player to influence people on their choice on something this personal. That will turn a lot of people off. The reason this is different than, and more offensive to some than, say a Doritos or Budweiser commercial, is because they are trying to influence our decision on something as important as abortion with a celebrity spokesman or athlete, just like they do for something as trivial as what kind of snacks we enjoy at lunch or what kind of beer we have after a tough day at work. I think it has a lot more to do with the Tebow's and this organization using a forum usually reserved for far-less important issues and butting their way into our party time.
  19. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 20, 2010 -> 09:54 AM) But he really didn't. His 1985 season was by far his best HR season - but his other numbers were worse than his averages. If he went from 26 to 37 HR, and his average also rose, and other numbers rose, then I'd be highly suspicious. Basically, as far as I can tell, he sacrificed AVG for power. I wasn't trying to suggest he was doing anything, other than having some awfully fine years in the twilight of his career himself.
  20. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jan 20, 2010 -> 12:53 PM) If Jones really is going to start for this team he needs to be playing the OF full-time with Q as the DH. We cannot waste Jones defensive advantages just to get Mark Kotsay ab's in the name of "flexibility." Was thinking the same thing yesterday. My guess is he and Q will platoon a lot in RF with the majority of the starts in the field going to Jones eventually. This assumes no permanent or full-time DH is acquired.
  21. I wonder if it has anything to do with CBS having such a strong association with the SEC and Florida Gators football and all the gushing about they do about their biggest star of the past several years, Tim Tebow. I wonder if this was a commercial featuring someone from Cal or Washington if they would be so inclined...

Ugh, I just did the plyometrics. Made the Back & Shoulders routine seem like child's play, and I couldn't even get through the whole thing. If you want to know just how out of shape you are, people, do this plyometrics routine. Wow.

    Spring Semester '10

QUOTE (Pods70Rowand33 @ Jan 19, 2010 -> 05:33 PM) Will be graduating in May, and hopefully going to grad school in the fall. But here is what I got, probably one of my hardest semesters but it seems to be one of the more fun semesters: Physical Chem II Adv. Organic Chem Differential Equations Research Seminar Poetry Hmm, which do you suppose will be more intense, Advanced Organic Chemistry or Poetry?
  24. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 19, 2010 -> 05:36 PM) So is he saying we should be suspect of his 1985 career best power numbers season at the age of 37? His age 40, 41 and 42 seasons were actually the most productive baseball he played since his age 27-29 seasons.
  25. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jan 19, 2010 -> 05:07 PM) I would agree that this his possible future position with the Sox and I feel very strongly both ways about it What do you mean you feel strongly both ways?
