QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 18, 2008 -> 11:08 AM) At some point two months of productions no longer becomes a streak but something a player is truly capable of (well, he may never be a consistent .340 hitter, but you don't hit like that on accident). He just has a lot of natural ability and baseball instincts. He seems to find holes on ocassion but I also think it fits in with the type of player he is and while he won't keep hitting .340 (or at least it is doubtful he will), I wouldn't be shocked if he just kept getting better and better from an all-around stand-point. As far as I'm concerned, Ramirez and Quentin are the two brightest stars in the Sox young everyday playing ranks. They are on a whole nother level than a guy like Josh Fields. I agree. It's unlikely Alexei is a .340 hitter, but I wouldn't be surprised were he to be a ..290 hitter. And while he'll never walk a ton, he does have good at-bats, often fouling off quite a few pitches, even when he is down in the count. I think it's foolish to give up anything in our already shallow system to acquire a player where there truly isn't a need. Sure, I'd love for OCab to be a bit better at drawing walks himself, but there just really isn't a place to play any new acquisition. The only thing I see is if we traded Brian and some other prospects for a young, solid-hitting, true centerfielder. And I just don't see any of those being available right now. So in my view, we just really don't have many moves to make, barring the acquisition of some stud starting pitcher. And the odds of that happening are slim to none.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 18, 2008 -> 10:53 AM) Geeze, crazy he could win playing that injured. Definately adds to his growing legend. I was a huge Tiger hater but even I've came to appreciate and cheer for him. It will be interesting to see how he recovers and just how serious these injuries are. Also, in terms of a golf season, what exactly does that mean (is that like a full year or what, I honestly have on idea other than they've only played 2 of the majors). Sounds as though he wants to sit out the rest of 08' so he can be back and ready to play the 09' Masters to me.

QUOTE (The Bones @ Jun 18, 2008 -> 12:57 AM) If someone can answer this question I will concede the point. What professional golfer acts out more than Tiger? Be it positive with the multiple fist pumps and spiking of hats onto the ground or negative with the banging of clubs and swearing at himself? He is the Carlos Zambrano/Joba Chamberlain of golf. No other professional golfer even comes near to acting the way he does. I am NOT a Tiger fan, and never have been. It's not that I don't appreciate his greatness, or that I don't appreciate what he has done for the game of golf, I just have never particularly liked his demeanor on the course. The first pumping gets a bit out of hand at times. That being said, I think he is awfully well-behaved on the course, considering the amount of scrutiny he is constantly under. The man can hardly play in Majors anymore because the scrutiny is so intense. Whether it be by the cameras and the media, or the huge galleries, there are always distractions, always people watching his every move or mannerism. I don't think Tiger behaves all that much worse than anyone else. I just think he is scrutinized so much more than anyone else. However, there is something to this idea of ultra-competitive, ultra-gifted athletes being spoiled, immature babies. The stories of Michael Jordan being a douchebag behind the scenes are pretty legendary. It's just that the public never saw them because A) he was a master at manipulating his public image; and B) the press protected him 95% of the time. Tiger doesn't have that luxury as much as Michael did, but still, all in all, when they have boom mics surrounding you in the heat of battle, you're bound to blurt out something you don't want others to hear. And when every single shot is broadcasted live (as opposed to most other golfers, who might only have a few live shots broadcasted), Tiger is going to obviously be very, very exposed.

The players can say all they want about the series' not meaning anything, and just being another six games. But we've seen over the course of this rivalry that the players DO care. These series' always end up being some of the most exciting and controversial of the year. And while a lot of that can be chalked up to the media and the fans, one can see it on the field as well. It's always a playoff atmosphere, and that definitely affects the players. From a White Sox point of view, I think there is always a chip on their shoulder. They're sick of being the second team in town (at least on some level), and enjoy knocking off the City's favorite son... From a Cubs point of view, I always get the sense that the Cubs' players want to actually prove on the field that they can beat the Sox, and not just in the attendance figures or beer sales. They have a chip on their shoulder, not because they don't have the fan support (they do), but because they want the pride that comes along with actually beating the Sox (who seem to usually be the better team on the field). So say what they want, I truly believe the players do look at this series differently. And for different reasons. This year should be special...

Honda's first production Hydrogen Cell car rolls off the line

Fund studies, and more studies, and then some more after that. And then fund some more, for good measure. Do not LEAP into something without knowing as much as possible what we are getting into. Ahem, ethanol. Cough, nickel-based batteries in hybrid vehicles. -

QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Jun 13, 2008 -> 06:09 PM) is it me or does it seem like every time an athlete is pulled over he is driving on a suspended license? I just don't think particularly care about traffic citations being that enough money usually just takes care of the problem.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 14, 2008 -> 12:05 AM) What was the deal with Gavin tonight? From the splits it looks like he had decent stuff but control issues...trying to blow hitters away with chest high 92 MPH fastballs? His stuff wasn't bad. Didn't have the really good curve ball or change up. Got beat on a few fastballs and a curveball he left up to Hawpe that he put over the centerfield fence easily. Not his best outing, was just beat on a few pitches on a night where the ball was really carrying. I think we're going to see more outings like this in our ballpark as the weather warms up if he doesn't have his biting curve.

Loaiza To 15-Day DL with right shoulder tendinitis, Russell Called Up

I know you're being sarcastic, but did they think he was waiting to pull out his 95 mph cutter for us or something? -
How could you not cheer on "the handsome Neal Cotts"?

I just don't get it. Do they not have scouts? -
The one issue I have with this is that is has really not taken too much time for Danks....and Floyd's time was on the Phillies' hands. Williams has managed to acquire and develop these two pitchers in a span of 16 months basically. If it were only that easy...

QUOTE (29andPoplar @ Jun 11, 2008 -> 04:04 PM) As for Garcia, the White Sox brass are way ahead of you as I said. They have been closely monitoring Freddy Garcia and will continue to do so. They will also seek out and add additional pitching depth if it becomes necessary. I'm quite certain the White Sox brass is way ahead of all of us on every move they will ever make. Does that mean we should not discuss any move they could potentially make?

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 11, 2008 -> 04:06 PM) Pie has zero value, Samardajiza will be out of baseball shortly, and I dont think that whole package gives a team much more than quantity instead of quality. I actually heard a lot of teams were fairly interested in Samardjia. Pie has value, not as he once did, but he definitely has some value still. But I tend to agree, I don't see the Cubs having the impact prospects needed to snag a guy like CC. Maybe a Meche or Bedard even. But not CC.

QUOTE (29andPoplar @ Jun 11, 2008 -> 03:50 PM) Now why would you think I'm upset, I'm not upset at all. Let me ask you this, why do you have the need to comment? Are you upset? The guy brought up something about Freddy Garcia, I responded. He brought up something about having a lower membership # and how it should somehow insulate him, I responded. Isn't responding to threads and topics the natural course of things? See, there's the attitude I'm talking about. You're a smart guy. You bring a lot to this site. Why bother to get in the middle of the nonsense? Anyways, I'm sorry for even bothering. I was just trying to help.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 11, 2008 -> 03:36 PM) If enough people find the suggestions a bit strange or unfounded, then posters will respond. And that, too, is part of the site. I personally find it kind of ridiculous to take a first place team on a serious roll, and try to add Fields (who has serious swing issues and isn't doing so hot in AAA anyway) to replace Konerko or Thome's at bats, and to look at adding a pitcher (who hasn't pitched in many moons and was fading when he last did) when every team in baseball is salivating at the ones the team already has. Therefore, I pointed out how silly I thought the ideas were, and why they were silly. I've had my ideas shouted down many times here, and that's part of the deal when I post something. I'm not saying people can't shoot down ideas. This isn't an approval only website. But what gets me is not the criticism of the idea, but the criticism of the sheer act of making the post. Do you really want to discourage people from starting threads here because they are afraid their ideas aren't "good enough" to pass the "threadkeeper"? And I don't think the intention of this thread was to suggest we plug Garcia into the rotation right now. The intention is clearly to plug him in should he be needed, such as in the Dog Days of August, or the final penant push of September, etc. We have two extremely young starters right now, and one extremely old one. Why is it wrong to plan for contingencies? Now I cannot tell you if Garcia would accept such a role. As others have said, the Yankees and Mets have full-time spots he could probably fill right now in their rotations. Additionally, Freddy has always been rumored to want to pitch in New York. His nickname is "Big Game" or whatever. But I don't see anything wrong with considering trying to add him to this roster. Simply because things have gone well to this point in regards to the pitching staff doesn't necessarily mean they will continue that way.

QUOTE (29andPoplar @ Jun 11, 2008 -> 03:06 PM) Nicely put. Poplar, I really like what you have to say normally, but why do you always get so upset if people raise topics you don't feel are pertinent enough or timely or what have you? This is several times I have seen you criticizing folks for that. Can we just follow the natural course of things? If the topic isn't necessary or pertinent, it falls down the page due to lack of discussion and eventually disappears into the oblivion of Soxtalk.

QUOTE (JFields27 @ Jun 11, 2008 -> 01:15 PM) what are you talking about, Danks is going to be fine making it through the season. The last thing we need is Garcia and Loaiza on this team at the same time, you have two players who worked in the past, they arent going to be better then Danks at the present though. Well, I don't necessarily like the Freddy Garcia option, but it's the truth. Danks wound down in the past and he may again this year in the dog days or near the playoffs. It's just a function of him being young. Acquiring some depth, especially that with postseason experience, can never hurt.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Jun 11, 2008 -> 09:44 AM) Baltimore needs something of a stopgap at SS. Bynum is basically a backup infielder who is filling a void. Obviously we're not going to get anything anywhere near MLB-ready (that's just silly) but they would probably consider it. Yeah, for Jay Payton.

QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Jun 9, 2008 -> 03:20 PM) It could be very seriously argued that Boras cost Jordan a ton of money last week. The reason the Sox snagged him so late was due to signability issues fueled by Scott... Yeah, I agree. John articulated how the family was really disappointed that Jordan dropped so far, and after the Sox drafted him, they probably told John and the rest of the family exactly what Boras was telling teams'. I'll bet that was the straw that broke the camel's back. John probably talked to Mark about the situation and Mark set them both up with his agent.

QUOTE (Nokona @ Jun 9, 2008 -> 02:55 PM) I think the Danks family likes the Chicago White Sox organization. I think John Danks worships Mark Buehrle.
