  1. Sure, Brian hasn't exactly been tearing the cover off the ball, but he also hasn't had regular at-bats. Don't you think that it would help him if he could get some regular playing time? Look at the improvements Alexei has shown while getting some regular playing time. Let's see if it works for Brian as well. Of course, this all depends on what the real story with Paul's thumb is. 1) Will it have a chance to heal completely if he is DL'd for 2, 3, or even 4 weeks? 2) Is this an injury in which an extended period of healing is necessary (1-2 months)? 3) Is this an injury that will not be completely healed until next season, after several months of the offseason? If Paul is going to have to play through it all year, they may as well not DL him at all. If it can heal from having 15-30 days off, I say DL him now, let the thing heal entirely, and play Swisher at first while Anderson plays center. If it's going to take 30-60 days to heal entirely, that's where it gets tough. Can you be without him for that long? Would it be better to try and play through it, or will he struggle like he is currently, for the remainder of the season? These are all things that we are not privy to, but are hopefully affecting their decision.
  2. QUOTE (TheBigHurt @ May 30, 2008 -> 08:39 AM) Jesus, when are we playing KC? Unless I'm forgetting, I don't think we've even played them yet this year O_O Tuesday.
  3. QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 27, 2008 -> 09:11 AM) He almost put two balls in the bleachers last night after 4 days off. He's fine. That's been his problem for a lot of the season. Almost isn't good enough.
  4. The question is, how long will it take to completely heal? No one seems to be answering that question. If it will heal in 2 weeks if he is put on the DL, by all means, put him on the DL. If it will heal in a month, put him on the DL. If it's going to take 3 months, then you got to just keep running him out there. But if this thing can heal with a few weeks off, I just wish they would let it heal, because moving Swish to first and playing Brian in center is just as good, if not a better lineup for the Sox right now.
  5. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ May 27, 2008 -> 06:23 AM) The Sox didn't give Arizona their surplus of outfielders. Arizona gave Arizona their surplus of outfielders. Arizona re-signed Eric Byrnes to a 3-year, $30 million dollar deal. That's who we have to thank for Carlos Quentin.
  6. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ May 26, 2008 -> 10:35 PM) You put your players in a position to succeed. Ozzie is a master of giving his pitchers just enough rope to hang or save themselves. He should know that Ramirez -- who should be in AAA -- is not a guy you hit and run with in a critical spot. Then how the hell did he pull off that move in the 12th? I agree, Alexei looked like a fool on the hit and run, but hit and runs fail all the time. It's a risky proposition. We can complain about the Ozzeroo as much as we want...I just don't agree with characterizing it as "horrible" or whatever...."sub-optimal," maybe.
  7. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ May 26, 2008 -> 10:26 PM) I agree. KW clearly has a good relationship with the Diamondbacks it it helped facilitate the Q trade. We as fans never really get to see the interpersonal side trades, but having a good relationship with your fellow GMs is certainly something that helps faciliate these sort of "everyone wins" trades. That said, I think if you asked KW and Byrnes if (at the time) how highly they valued the "relationship" part of the Vasquez/Young trade they would have put it pretty far down on the list -- but it's a factor to consider when dealing for sure. Yeah, it's hard to tell. I found it interesting though that Byrnes commented last week that Kenny had been on Quentin for a while now. I wonder if the fact that the Vazquez/Young deal worked out so well finally led Josh to crack... I have also heard that Kenny basically gave Tadahito to Pat Gillick last year because he felt badly about what happened with Freddy Garcia. Probably not always a good practice, but if you develop a relationship with another GM where the goal is for everyone to win, rather than to rip the other guy off, some good things can happen. I've heard Mark Shapiro mention this before as well.
  8. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ May 26, 2008 -> 10:27 PM) He had Alexei attempt a hit and run, and it shortly became painfully obvious that SexRam had no idea what that actually is So perhaps call it bad player preparation, if not bad managing. Alexei's not the most prime candidate for that, but then he pulled it off late in the game. Oh come on....with that hit he pulled off in the 12th after the fake bunt, he can surely pull off a hit and run. Alexei's just got to do a better job of that....not Ozzie's fault...
  9. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ May 26, 2008 -> 08:43 PM) It's a bad idea to start doing this whole, "well if we never...then we never get CQ" kinda logic to trades. This is the sort of logic Knicks fans use when they talk about the Curry trade. You look in trades, the great majority of the time, in a vacuum. Javy for Young looks like a win for both sides right now. Javy has given the Sox almost 500 innings of above average starting pitching. Young sucked up until this year but there is no doubt he'll be a 850 OPS guy with gold glove defense in CF for the next 5-10 years. Long term I think the DBacks win, but it's pretty close. I was for the trade at the time despite loving Young. I thought Javy was the inning eater high K guy that would push the Sox over the top in 2006. They came up short be he continues to pitch quick well and reliably. Really this is one of those trades that both teams walk away from feeling like winners, and rightfully so. Although damn would Young look awesome as our everday CF for the next decade. Well, I disagree. I think you're right most of the time regarding trades in a vacuum, but we've heard anecdotal evidence now that developing good relationships with GM's can help with making deals in the future. Kenny has this sort of solid relationship with Gillick and Josh Byrnes. Byrnes is certainly not a bad guy to have a good relationship with.
  10. QUOTE (BearSox @ May 26, 2008 -> 09:12 PM) what happened? I was not able to see the game thanks to Directv's s***ty-ness. I didn't like pulling Massett, but I'm not really sure what else there is to complain about?
  11. QUOTE (fathom @ May 26, 2008 -> 07:53 PM) KW...please never trade with Beane again. Swisher reminds me of the offensive version of Billy Koch. Both of them are lemons. Well, Nick did hit some balls really hard today. He'll come around. He just needs to stay aggressive (pitchers are going right after him with strike 1 and 2) and find some holes...
  12. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ May 26, 2008 -> 08:59 PM) Hawk keeps calling that Alexei hit a semi-butcher boy. Whats the difference between that and a true butcher boy Alexei pulled the bat all the way back and swung. A true butcher boy is when you keep the bat in the bunting position and hit the ball with a half-swing (I think).
  13. I love BA Barrackus as much as anyone, but you've got to keep running Swish out there. Ozzie's using BA about as well as he can right now...I would DL Paulie, to be honest, and hope he can heal that thing up altogether instead of continuing to try and fight through it this early in the season.
  14. I just don't see why anyone even cares. So he called the press box....it's not like he is some rookie or something. He knows how to play the game, he knows how to stay focused. By now, he can play the game in his sleep. What does it matter if he called the press box? For all we know, he has a $50k bet or something with another player...

    Oil Issue

Allow office workers to work from home. They could have computers with webcams so the boss or supervisor could observe them if necessary. Could save a ton of gas as probably 10% of the workforce could cut down their commute or nearly erase it entirely.
  16. Wow, crazy story...thanks for posting that.
  17. Born in Evergreen Park, raised in the Joliet/New Lenox area, moved to Hinsdale, back to Joliet area. Then moved to the City for school, and now back to the burbs in Tinley Park. But I have an interview in Las Vegas on Thursday, will probably get offered the job, so soon may be joining the ranks of out-of-the-area Sox fans using this site to keep up with the latest...thank goodness for Extra Innings and legalized sports gambling in Nevada (so the sports books carry every game)...
  18. Interestingly enough, on mlbtraderumors.com, there is a little blurb where Jonathan Mayo predicts the top 10 draft picks this year, and he has the White Sox selecting Gordon Beckham, ss. Would love that pick.
  19. Well, in defense of Jimmy, he did hit two rockets today and just had rotten luck.
  20. Man, that 7th inning was hilarious when Jose threw that 52 footer 8 feet to the left of the plate, then made that slow pickoff move and threw Pauly that ground ball....I couldn't stop laughing.... I love the "old warhorse."
  21. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 13, 2008 -> 11:04 PM) Are you guys high on Dotel or ready to boot him to the curb? I wonder how we'll do in our 19 games against the Royals? We are reasonably decent so far this year against our own division. Again, he got out of a bases-loaded, one-out jam. Did you even watch the game, or just look at the box score?
  22. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 13, 2008 -> 11:01 PM) Dotel looks like he wasn't worth the money. Yikes. After we lose these 4 I hope we can take 2 of 3 from the Giants somehow to go 4-6 on trip. He got out of a pretty big jam tonight, wouldn't you say? If we had a right fielder worth a s***, we wouldn't have been in the spot we were in.
  23. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ May 13, 2008 -> 10:40 PM) according to Hawk tonight, all Walker can do is suggest things Honestly, he's pretty spot on there. You think some guy making 50 times what Walk makes is going to listen to something he says? Not a chance. There's a reason our veterans don't make adjustments. You think Walker doesn't see the things we all see?
  24. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ May 13, 2008 -> 09:47 AM) So the back to back errors that put 2 runners on before Vlad were Marks fault? No, they weren't. But they weren't simple plays, either. OC should have had that ball, but guys misplay that ball fairly often (relative to other balls that are misplayed), and the play Juan made was a damn nice play to get a glove on it. That was a shot right up the middle that would have been a hit 95 times out of 100. I'm not saying the defense didn't let Mark down a bit, but it's not like those were routine plays either.
  25. QUOTE (fathom @ May 13, 2008 -> 09:46 AM) He had no control of his change-up...it seemed like he was leaving it up and off the plate too much. I do know for certain that's the pitch that has been hit the hardest off of him this season. Ahh, well, in regards to last night, I'll have to respectfully disagree. Seemed to me the breaking ball and cutter were the main culprits last night. I just know I am sick of watching him pitch right now.
