Quintana Rumors: Round and round and round we go
iamshack replied to GGajewski18's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 10, 2016 -> 06:40 AM) http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2016/12/2018...ree-agents.html That is the list. It isn't a bad list but I do think except for Harper, Machado, and probably Kershaw, it is a bit overrated. I don't think the Sox have even a slight shot at Harper or Kershaw. JR saving his money until then might be able to shock the world and get Machado, but the odds have to be huge against it. Donaldson will be 33 in 2019, which is almost considered a fossil these days. I agree. And I think Baltimore will do everything it can to retain Machado. Showalter has gone as far as saying he leaves if Machado leaves. -

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Dec 10, 2016 -> 06:01 AM) Nightengale is very confident he gets moved. He thinsk they are determined to trade him but they think as highly of him as they do Sale. He expects up to 7 more players traded. He did mention that White Sox would have the payroll to be very active throughout with the 2018 Free Agent class. As deep as that class is, there are going to be quite a few teams left out in the cold. We'll likely be one of them. -
The great thing is we can let them develop at their own pace. No need to rush them to fill some hole on the mlb roster.

QUOTE (Ro Da Don @ Dec 9, 2016 -> 09:47 AM) Daz Cameron is absolute trash. Nothing but a set of tools. He typifies the old kind of Sox draft pick who is just not a ball player. I want nothing to do with Daz Cameron. Yeah, he's the guy we would have traded for 7 years ago. Please trade for some good baseball players. -
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 9, 2016 -> 08:26 AM) Can I ask why we should be pessimistic about Anderson, but a guy like Giolito should excite us? We seem to actually be able to scout/develop decent pitchers

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Dec 9, 2016 -> 08:17 AM) Why do I know who Jackson Reetz is again? A lot of talk about him a few years ago in the draft threads. Particularly from JoeCoolMan

QUOTE (Ro Da Don @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 09:41 PM) I know I'm getting the reputation as a Kyle Tucker fan boy, but i can't help it lol. His overall line on the year was .285/.360/.438/.798 at age 19 with 9 HR/69 RBI/32 SB/81K in 117 games - a bit better than his stats at just Lancaster. With that swing and his hit tool and his body, the power most likely will develop. For every one player who has in-game power at such a young age, two players won't develop power until their early to mid twenties. That being said, no way in hell a 19 year old guy in A ball should be considered untouchable for a player like Quintana by a team trying to win now. Bregman I can understand being truly untouchable because his loss would affect the curent team. Get real, Houston. I'm just not sympathetic to this "Bregman is part of our '17 core." Bulls***. This isn't July 31. It's December 10. Go out and replace him. A key reason you make moves like this in the offseason is so teams have a chance to move some pieces around. This has even morphed into GMs now saying "this prospect is part of our next 10 years, he's untouchable." Oh, ok, in that case, just give me a big steaming pile of s*** and I'll be happy with that. -
I want the guy to succeed, but I don't like what I see any more than I didn't like what I saw from Dayan or Avi. A lot of the better prospects we might look to acquire at the moment are shortstops. I know this will be unpopular, but I wouldn't let Tim Anderson stop me from acquiring one with the intent to keep him the newly acquired player there.

QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 9, 2016 -> 07:55 AM) This is 100% what I thought would happen, but his low cost is equally fighting that those teams view their prospects as tools to keep their cost down. There is no "fill in for free agency" for them, so it is stealing from Peter to pay Paul or whatever that folksy saying is. I have been very surprised at how out of it the Pirates are, I thought they would have some urgency but they seem resigned to their fate as being behind Cards/Cubs. I think you're hitting the nail on the head here. I also think the Pirates believe they can exploit a market inefficiency with defense as well, and avoid the urge to acquire premium pitching from anywhere other than the draft/international FA. -

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 09:15 PM) Give it some time. Luhnow can't be this stupid. He is a TOR starter away from having a complete roster and I'm sure the Red Sox getting Sale puts pressure on him to fill this last major hole. While I'm certain he won't move Bregman at this point, I just can't see the logic of making Tucker an untouchable. He's too far out to be considered a key part of this young core that has a four year window. Quintana just makes too much sense for them IMO. Right now I think it's simply posturing on both sides and Hahn has much less pressure to budge first after making some incredible trades already. Been watching videos of Martes. So are we still thinking Martes/Tucker/Reed? How do you guys feel about Martes moving forward? #2-3 starter? -

QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 08:23 PM) Man it got boring real quick. Need moar I know. They're probably all getting a good night's sleep for the first time this week. Edit: In the downtime I just keep researching prospects...lot to learn, since we've really never needed to look at this part of the industry -

QUOTE (QuickJones81 @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 07:10 PM) Missed my point. The point was that success in small samples should be taken with a grain of salt. Still plenty of opportunity to go in either direction. Yeah, but that same example gets used for like every decent young infielder in the league now. They can't all be Gordon Beckhams. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 04:49 PM) I'd like Collins to get an extended look at catcher, but that means keeping him in the minors for 2+ years to work at that spot, meaning we need a catcher this year. And that's perfectly fine.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 04:56 PM) Absolutely not. Hard to say without knowing the other packages. It's not the lack of other pieces that bothers me, honestly. We've gotten back 7 guys for Sale and Eaton, including 3-4 really nice arms. The question I would have is where do you play him? If you see him sticking at ss, I would almost move Anderson at this point. If he's destined for 3b, I think I demand others. I can move Q 1-for-1, but I think only for a premium bat at an up the middle position. Anywhere else, I need more than just 1 piece. -
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 08:27 AM) Dodgers are apparently not willing to match the Marlins offer. Perfect

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 06:46 AM) If we can't get Bregman, which looks unlikely, I don't like what the Astros are offering up and would much rather go to the Yankees or Rockies. Agreed. without Bregman, I just don't like their 1st piece. -

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 03:50 AM) You'd have to be a full blown dumbass not to know this. It's gonna be rough in '17 and '18 as far as W/L goes. But it's been rough 90% of the time since '05. Come '19? My goodness. This team is gonna be so sick. For the first time in years it feels good to be a Sox fan. What a time to be alive! Welcome back, my friend! -

QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 09:32 PM) Honestly, I don't think GMs really give a damn what the media or fans say about who won the trade. They made the trade because they trust their own scouts and analytics and personnel. They should trust their guys more than they trust Twitter. Yeah, but it was also a lot of their peers. Shelby Miller 2.0 was mentioned. No one likes to be mocked like that by your peers. -

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 09:19 PM) I think the media blowback is why we will see things take a bit longer for Q. Everyone will be reanalyzing the market, turning more stones...but at the end of the day, Q is a unique asset and one who is highly valued and someone will pay the price, which should be somewhere in between what Sale & Eaton got (and I'm okay if it is what Eaton got). Yeah, I think this is pretty reasonable. It'll test our patience, but in the long term, I'm quite happy Rick is such a stubborn bastard. -
QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 09:24 PM) The Marlins are so stupid. Giving up a first round pick to sign a closer when you have no starting pitching and a mediocre at best lineup is so foolish. I think they're trying to replicate the Royals model.
-
I must say, if I could pay Jansen 5/$75, or Robertson 2/$25, and give up maybe 1 top 100 guy, I would take the latter option in a freaking millisecond.
