  1. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 26, 2018 -> 01:56 PM) Interesting the timeline between DeVos changing the title IX regs and this coming out. Shes very tied to MSU. And Izzo is going to get hammered because of the things they've hid for his program. He's too much of a God in East Lansing for this to do much to him. He can say he followed the advice of the school admn and athletic director, which was that after an investigation his players were cleared.
  2. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 26, 2018 -> 10:38 AM) MSU AD just stepped down Posted this in the bball thread but it should probably go here. I'm sure this has something to do with it: http://www.espn.com/espn/story/_/id/222145...assar-case-espn
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 25, 2018 -> 01:34 PM) https://www.landof10.com/iowa/iowa-fire-bas...m_medium=Social He gave the same type of contract to Ferentz. Frankly though, i'm not sure why people are complaining. Both guys are good coaches. Ferentz has fallen the last few years, but for a while there he had Iowa football at or near its best in the program's history. McCaffrey had a good run just a couple of years ago.
  4. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jan 25, 2018 -> 02:13 PM) Well that's a different topic than than monitoring academics. The minimum standards are really low. Personally, I think there should be an alternative to college athletics. Only kids who are going to spend the 4 years should even be allowed to go to college and participate in collegiate athletics. However, with the money generated by football and basketball it would really hurt the universities. The NCAA and pro sports should get together and form minor leagues for football and basketball. This way the universities still get some revenue but they aren't the minor leagues for those sports. Maybe there should be a rule that if you attend a university for football and basketball you can't participate in pro sports for 2 years after you leave. I fail to see why the NCAA should be concerned with MSU hiring a rapist/pedophile if it also can't go after UNC for cheating on academic standards it requires. With the UNC decision the NCAA basically said our rules are shames and however you want to pretend like you meet them we can't do anything about it. Nassar didn't change how MSU gymnastics performed. So why should the NCAA care what it did or didn't do after hearing of the accusations? Same with Penn State. That's a criminal issue, not an athletic one. (To be clear, I'm saying the NCAA SHOULD and MSU SHOULD get a death penalty if these accusations that they knew and did nothing are true, just like UNC should have been hit with a death penalty for clear and obvious cheating.)
  5. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jan 25, 2018 -> 02:00 PM) What would the National Collegiate Athletic Association have to do with academics? It is by definition the Athletic governing body. They require their members (and students) to meet certain academic standards to be eligible. "Student-Athletes" and all that bulls***.
  6. I love that the NCAA is in the morality/legal arena, but not academics. Makes sense.
  7. Also, so glad the Patriots are back in the SB, Alabama won another title, the Yankees are set up for another run of dominance, GS continues to destroy the NBA and Duke just got the top 3 recruits in the same freakin' class. #f***sports
  8. QUOTE (Jack Parkman @ Jan 21, 2018 -> 05:36 PM) He's not. He's an average QB who has been the beneficiary of having the best coach in NFL history. He had zero to do with any of his wins. They won 3 SBs because of his kicker and 2 because the opposing coaching staff pissed themselves. He deserves zero rings, and I give 100% of the credit of the Pats to Belichick, and zero to Brady. Right place at right time. The year that they won 11 games with Matt f***ing Cassell at QB proved this to me. Would people say he was the GOAT if he was 3-4 in Super Bowls instead of 5-2? No. I rest my case. He SHOULD BE 3-4 in Super Bowls. That is a losing record mind you. To me, even though this thought is a a consensus, it is an insult to my football intelligence to say otherwise. Brady and Favre are the most overrated QBs in NFL history and it isn't even close. The "average QB" stuff is nonsense, but I totally agree that Brady and the Patriots have been extremely lucky. The tuck rule nonsense should have prevented them from getting to their first SB. If the Seahawks just run the ball they lose a few years ago. If the Falcons ran the ball one time (to burn the clock) they lose last year. They play in the weakest division in football. Their competition is Buffalo, Miami and New York. Barf. They get a golden ticket to the playoffs, first round byes and home field advantage on a yearly basis because of it. Now, that being said, Belichick is the greatest coach ever. His half time adjustments are insane. I just saw a stat that they are 3-4 in the last 10 years when trailing by more than 10 pts in the 4th in the playoffs. The rest of the league is 3-70. So, they're pretty freakin clutch and Brady makes plays constantly to bring them back and/or win games. He's far better than "average." I really don't see how anyone can argue that he's not the best given the accomplishments. Are there better athletes at the position? Sure. Are there better throwers? Sure. Are there guys with stronger and more accurate arms? Sure. But who cares? The dude wins and that's the goal of playing the game.
  9. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 19, 2018 -> 12:07 PM) Nope. This band of ballers is destined for NBA hell. Every team is in NBA hell unless you luck into the Hall of Fame caliber player in the draft. Welcome to the NBA since...forever.
  10. if there's a positive....at least we know the system works and people take it seriously.
  11. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jan 18, 2018 -> 09:59 AM) Except that he kept grabbing her hand and putting on his crotch. So, it wasn't just bad sweet talk. He was clearly trying to pressure someone into having sex with him that seemed to be pretty clear they didn't want to. But it's not really clear, even if you believe her side of the story. Again, she readily admits to numerous sexual acts throughout the night and she could have left at anytime. Was he pushy? Sounds like it. But she didn't help the situation by sending out mixed signals. It's not really fair to (1) willingly participate, (2) regret it and then (3) talk to a blog or whatever that website is and pretend like it's a case of assault.
  12. Bulls are too tired to actually win this, but first half was entertaining
  13. Aziz Ansari is next. Honestly, this is another tough one for me. He did the typical male move of trying to sweet talk his way into having sex with a woman. And this woman consensually got naked with him, performed oral sex on him (more than once), received oral sex from him....but didn't leave his place for hours and when she wanted to leave she did. I'm sure she felt gross and bad afterwords but that's some clearly mixed signals being sent to Aziz. edit: not saying this shouldn't spark a convo that men shouldn't be sweet talking/strongly pressuring women to have sex, but at the same time this shouldn't ruin his career.
  14. Losing may not be a huge deal. If they get into the 10-13 range, they can put a package together to move up. The Bulls 1st round pick and hopefully another 1st round pick they get for Niko. A bunch of those teams at the top of the draft need more than one guy.
  15. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 17, 2018 -> 12:08 PM) You aren't a little bit excited for Dunn, Markannen and Levine? You're not a little optimistic that Fred's offense is actually pretty fun to watch when he has guys that can run it? I've traveled far from the depths of despair I was at following the Butler trade. I actually see some light at the end of the tunnel. Long way to go, but a lottery pick this year and a FA signing or two and I think they're one of the top 3-4 contenders in the post-Lebron-in-the-East era.
  16. Peaky Blinders season 4 was great, as expected. I wish the seasons were longer than 6 episodes, but I'm sure they would suffer a bit if they stretched it out. Looking forward to season 5 next year.
  17. There was a call in the Steelers game where Juju Smith Schuster pushed a Jacksonville DB into Bell out of bounds. The dude got hit with a personal foul penalty. That's a call that should be immediately changed by the people in New York. Not reviewed, just changed on the spot via their headsets.
  18. QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Jan 15, 2018 -> 01:44 AM) I thought the clusterf*** there was going to be Diggs not trying to go out of bounds. Instead, it was the safety not even laying a damn body part on the wide open tackle he had. Crazy. After watching it live and then watching a bunch of replays, i'm convinced that (1) he was scared of getting a PI called on him for hitting a defenseless receiver, which is why he went low and (2) he was trying to be sure that he was between Diggs and the sideline so Diggs couldn't get out of bounds. He tried to anticipate where Diggs was going to spin once he landed, and unfortunately missed.
  19. The homer calls for New England are so infuriating.
  20. Replace Underwood with Groce in each of these posts and it's all the stuff I heard 5 years ago. Just wait until Groce gets his guys! Look at what Weber left him! Blah, blah. Teams are short of talent in various areas and they figure out a way. I know Illinois lacks size and that's not Underwood's fault. I know they're young and rely on freshman. Also not Underwood's fault. But what about coming out flat? Playing terrible halves (not minutes, full 20 minute stretches)? Not being able to come up with set plays to get good shots? Making the same mistakes over and over again (turnovers, turnovers, turnovers). I also feel like they pretty quickly went away from the score within 7 seconds stuff. I've watched every game and when they're running and gunning they hit shots, but as soon as they miss one or two and the defense applies a little more pressure all that run and gun stuff stops. Their half court is bad. And they keep fouling! Has their been a game where foul trouble didn't play a part? That's on coaching too. Not saying this whole experiment is a failure before it begins, but I really did believe that Underwood would get them to 5-7th in the Big Ten, right in line with a tourney bid. That's clearly not happening. They may be the worst team in the conference.
  21. QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 9, 2018 -> 11:20 AM) It really is jarring after so much of my life watching nearly everything work out perfectly for the lakers to see this completely endless pathetic rebuild by them. The Lavar Ball situation was so easy to predict too. I'm shocked the narcissist with his own reality tv show who constantly mouths off when cameras are around ended up being a nightmare for the organization. If I were Magic and/or Luke Walton, I'd publicly tell Lavar to STFU or his son is going to ride the bench (losing value) and/or get traded from LA. I'd also ban him from the arena until he shuts up.
