More campaign finance limits tossed
Other than "hey the other side might spend more money than mine," what's the argument in favor of those limits?

QUOTE (Brian @ Apr 2, 2014 -> 11:07 AM) Story on Flying Illini. This was the year I started with Michigan. http://www.suntimes.com/sports/26578114-41...-prevailed.html That was the year I discovered Illinois basketball really, at 7. My parents were huge fans. We went to a ton of games. Kenny Battle was my favorite Illini (and is still up there). I vaguely remember going to Willard Airport either the night they came back after getting to the final four or the night they lost to congratulate them. Illinois may have the two best teams to not win it all in the 89 and 05 teams. I'm sure other fanbases would argue their programs have similarly good teams, but I dunno. Both were dominant, took over the sport for the year and then backed it up by getting close to winning it all.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 1, 2014 -> 03:32 PM) The other 9 seasons were 99 percent Robin and 1 percent the "mother". So they did make sure it wasnt a waste of time. The lack of the mother was a legit gripe of mine and other fans 2-3 seasons ago. That was one of the reasons I stopped watching until the last few weeks (that and the same jokes were getting really old). But that still doesn't excuse the bait and switch. They spent the last 3-4 seasons trying to sell the audience on the idea that Robin and Ted were not going to be together, that they had both moved past that, that Robin and Barney were a legit couple (and Barney had changed his ways and had grown up) and then nope, erase all that, we changed our mind literally the last 30 minutes of a show that aired for 4,576 minutes. Please audience, just buy it. Like Joseph Smith, dumb, dumb, dumb, dumb, dummmmbbbbbb. Just to be clear, it wasn't the worst finale ever. It had its moments. It had a lot of call backs to earlier episodes which I liked. They really nailed the scene where Ted finally meets/talks to the mother. But the ending was just brutally awful.

QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Apr 1, 2014 -> 12:37 PM) Tiger won't play the Masters http://hotlinks.golf.com/2014/04/01/tiger-...ters/?eref=sihp A few years ago, Jack's record looked doomed; it looks pretty safe now. Yeah, he hasn't been the same since the whole wife thing. Karma's a b**** I guess. The Masters will still be great though. Always good drama. I played last weekend in San Antonio and again this weekend over in Hillside. I'm loving the new clubs so far. They're an inch and a quarter longer than my older clubs, so I've hit a bunch of shots fat. I need to get used to that.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 1, 2014 -> 12:27 PM) Like every show ever? I expected a finale in tune with a network comedy and it delivered IMO. It wasnt my favorite and I wasnt completely happy but I didnt expect the writing to all of a sudden get great. Well sure, I wasn't expecting an Emmy winning drama script either, but I wanted something that didn't make me feel like the prior 9 seasons was a waste of time. They devoted hours and hours to certain story lines and then did a 180 on them.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 1, 2014 -> 12:19 PM) TV children. This show was never realistic and I think people are processing the finale like its a drama. Realistic or not, the show had themes and motivations that ended up meaning dick in the end.

That timing issue makes the kids' total willingness to see Ted get with Robin a little weird and creepy. And they even mention that the story of how he met their mother didn't involve their mother that much, it was more about Robin. What kid is going to feel that way about their mother, even if it had been 6 years?

QUOTE (juddling @ Apr 1, 2014 -> 12:22 AM) I thought the ending for HIMYM was ok....not great but nowhere near as bad as some think. My question to the haters here is what could they have done that would have made you say "That was a good ending" cause to be honest there are a few here that I don't think would have been satisfied no matter what the ending. Four off the top of my head: (1) They could have ignored the whole gimmick of the show - meeting the mother - years ago. (2) They could have introduced the mother and incorporated her into the cast (3) They could have introduced the mother last year, and then spent this year explaining how their marriage didn't work (like every other Ted relationship), and then made the whole Robin/Ted thing work (4) They could have just ended it with him and the mother being happy I 100% agree with Sepinwall's review. I see why they felt like they were stuck writing this story, but they didn't have to. And what fans got last night was not a good way to end it. I mean come on guys, that was a TERRIBLE way to end it. First, they basically s*** on the last 3-4 seasons of the Robin/Barney storyline. Especially the final season. Talk about a waste. We're going to spend all season on this will they, won't they stuff, and then we'll change the story within the first ten minutes of the finale. Dumb. And Barney just goes back to his old ways, which I get makes more sense and is more realistic, but again that just shows you how much waste and filler they had the last few seasons trying to tell us that he changed. And it wasn't some gradual change back to the way he was, it was done in 30 second flash forwards. Second, again, the mother situation. I wouldn't call it morbid, but you devote 9 seasons promising your audience that you're going to reveal the mother and making her this huge deal. And then she just dies. And the story ends up being more about Robin and Ted? Yuck. What should have been a great build up to Ted finally finding the mother ends up being, yeah the mother wasn't all that important, she was great, but she died. Hey i'm going to go back to Robin, cool? That show was great for about 4 seasons, ok for 2, and truly awful the last 3 (with a good episode here and there).

QUOTE (CrimsonWeltall @ Apr 1, 2014 -> 08:52 AM) While fees are being mentioned... I'm looking to do some online investing. What sites/services are good for avoiding fees and charges and other ripoffs? I am not the type of investor who is going to be making lots of trades or messing with individual stocks. More of a "dump into an index fund and leave it alone" type deal. If you're only going to invest in some funds, go to the source. I have my own brokerage account with Vanguard. Low fees and the funds perform very well. I've been telling everyone I know to put their money in the vanguard 500 or maybe the total stock market fund and enjoy the gains. I use Scottrade for my retirement account. I think you get like 7 trades free and so far in the last 5-6 years I've used maybe 4? Most of the sites probably have X amount free to start you off, so that shouldn't be a big deal if you're not going to trade a lot.

QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Mar 31, 2014 -> 01:08 PM) I thought the Walking Dead finale was very good. At first I didn't get the flashbacks, but looking back it all ties into the change in Rick. The flashbacks showed how it was Herschel who got him to start the farming and animal raising, and basically got him thinking that it would all be "okay" at the prison. Then Rick tried to get Carl to follow the same path. Rick's behavior and change in demeanor all stemmed from Herschel being killed by the Governor. The events in last night's episode pushed him over the edge. Beating a dead horse IMO. Who didn't know that before the finale?

Northwestern Wildcat Players Attempt to Unionize
I wonder what weight is attributed to a regional judge for the NLRB on the question of employment at a university and how that changes IRS definitions. I'm sure a court will have to affirm the decision before it really means anything legally.

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Mar 31, 2014 -> 11:40 AM) It's baffling seeing how many people here think so many shows are so terrible yet continue to watch and comment on them week after week. That's not unique to this board. TWD gets monster ratings and I'd bet you the vast majority of people that watch it don't think it's particularly good.

I thought TWD sucked last night. VERY slow, and the flashbacks didn't really add much. Great, Rick wanted to become a farmer so he and Carl stop being so cold-blooded/barbaric, but zombies and other humans trying to kill them keep causing him to act that way. Haven't we been down this road before? What's so interesting about that? They've had more "explosive" finales in the past, and I guess I kept expecting more to happen and nothing really did. Overall I agree that the last half of this season was the best of the series. They're finally trying to add emotional weight to the characters, but unfortunately all of the characters suck.

Northwestern Wildcat Players Attempt to Unionize
I wonder if the players even want to go that far though. They want to be viewed as "employees" only so that they can become a union. They don't want to be compensated like employees. I wonder if the NLRB decisions can make that distinction or if it has to be done by law. I know the guy for ESPN was saying that being considered an employee for union purposes doesn't mean they have to start paying taxes on the scholarships/stipends they get. The law on taxation would have to change or the IRS would have to change an internal rule.

Why would it change the NCAA's status? Other not-for-profit, tax exempt institutions have salaried employees (as does the NCAA).

As the dude on Grantland said, Wisconsin-Baylor is such a toss-up. You could tell me anything and I'd say it was believable. Baylor winning by 20, Wisconsin winning by 20, a game in the 80's, a game in the 60's, etc.
