  1. My response is: who cares? Again, so there's some portion of the fanbase that are a bit out of touch. So what? You don't think Hooisers fans are delusional? (as to the Brandon Paul/D-Wade comparison, I believe that was actually Weber, who said they had the same body build and speed, and that Paul could have the same game as Wade if he worked at it, which is true. I don't think anyone said he was GOING to be though) That's basically what I'm trying to say here. Zeller is a nice get for Crean. He's got a some really good recruits coming in in the next couple of years. But this INSTANT Hoosier "omg we're back!" is just laughable. You're ignoring the fact that 3-4 other teams in the Big Ten have done an equally good job bringing in talent but they've been doing it for YEARS now. And there's no reason to think they're just going to stop. Illinois recruiting is basically dead in 2012, but they're also high on the list of the tops recruits in 2013 and 2014. Congrats. You got 3-4 really good players on your squad. Go look at the top of the big ten and see how they've all got 8-10 good players on their bench right now.
  2. QUOTE (dasox24 @ Nov 11, 2010 -> 10:13 PM) Now, fathom, that's ridiculous. Maybe one idiot Illinois fan said that, but I highly doubt that's being said. Granted I don't read Illini message boards, but there's no way the "fanbase" (which implies a lot of people) are comparing those two players to Magic and Dwight... And if they are, Illinois fans have become dumb as s***. I frequent multiple Illini boards on an hourly basis almost and have never seen that comparison.
  3. QUOTE (fathom @ Nov 11, 2010 -> 05:18 PM) Indiana's upcoming recruiting classes are shaping up to be the cream of the Big 10, and you can't underestimate the impact Zeller's commitment is going to have on players like Yogi. No offense jenks, but I find this ironic coming from an Illini fan who belongs to a fanbase that compares Jereme Richmond to Magic Johnson and M. Leonard to Dwight Howard. So because I belong to an irrational fanbase (whose isn't btw?) my opinion is less valid? IU got a good commit (not great, good). He's gotten a couple of them. That doesn't mean they're "back." They're done being a bottom feeder, I'll grant you that. MSU, OSU, ILL have gotten good classes for years now. '
  4. QUOTE (He_Gawn @ Nov 11, 2010 -> 12:39 PM) Zeller is a Hoosier. Look for IU to pull in the number one class in the country in 2012. Glad to be relevant again. I'm happy for IU and all, but I think the fans need to be a LITTLE more realistic. This guy is not a John Wall or Derrick Rose type. And Indiana is still FAR away from the recruiting of Michigan State, Ohio State and Illinois.
  5. QUOTE (jasonxctf @ Nov 11, 2010 -> 09:41 AM) i agree. the whole system is out of whack. - doctors bill way too much - hospitals charge way too much - insurance companies are a gigantic nightmare - lawsuit awards are way too high - drug companies charge us citizens much more than other worldwide citizens for the same drugs nursing home costs are insane too. My grandmother was being charged $9k/month at a Sunrise private nursing home facility. That was for everyting. Drugs, Room, Meals, etc. The caregivers, were only earning $16/hr. For example, I've seen the financial statements for a for-profit hospital in the Chicagoland area. Do you think posting a 9.7% bottom line profit margin, is a bit steep? Ya know, I feel I have to defend my craft here a bit. While there are SOME cases where the rewards are out of whack, the numbers that people get on settlements or even verdicts (less so) aren't just made up figures. For example, if you get into MVA and have just soft tissues injuries, you're looking at 5k minimum in healthcare costs. Few thousand for the hospital, doctor, radiology, etc, 4-500 for your couple of follow up appointments. That case gets settled for a max of about 1500 bucks more than the medical bills for "pain and suffering." Take that basic case and extend it out, and that's what it is. The bills get higher, but the percentage of the settlement for pain/suffering and whatnot doesn't really go up. Once you bring in loss of income (or god forbid loss of life), that's when you see the big awards, but id' say 95% of the time it's justified. It's a system that requires evidence (because despite people claiming their owed a zillion dollars, the other side doesn't want to pay a dime, so they're going to fight whatever you're demanding), so you can't very well make up something that's not true. And while juries sometime go overboard, more often than not those awards get lessened on appeal. Lawsuits aren't really the problem in my opinion. It's the crazy billing.
  6. QUOTE (Wanne @ Nov 10, 2010 -> 05:32 PM) didn't know if you guys were privy...but you can watcht the Illini online tonight on espn3.com (for those whose carrier has it). I watched monday and the feed was pretty damn good. Is a bird in the hand worth two in the bush?
  7. Jurassic Park was a "controlled" environment. Look how that turned out.
  8. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Nov 8, 2010 -> 12:21 PM) They won a playoff game last year. Fine, one game in 15 years. The point remains. They're ALWAYS overrated as a team, which leads people to overrate their roster too.
  9. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 8, 2010 -> 11:37 AM) Has there ever been a team that needed a top pick less than Dallas? Seriously, when you look at Buffalo right now, you might or might not think they have promise, but you're never going to say "That's a team that is loaded with talent". You're going to say "that team might go somewhere if they had enough talent" (if you actually like any part of their organization). Dallas on the other hand...does anyone look at them and think "they have a good system but they just don't have enough talented players?" "If that team lands 1 more top pick, watch out?" Do they have talented players? Yes. Is the majority of their "talent" overrated because they are the Cowboys and the media kisses their ass on a weekly basis? Yes. They shouldn't be 1-7, but if they hadn't been pegged as Super Bowl contenders at the beginning of EVERY season, despite not winning a single playoff game in 15 years, this wouldn't look as bad as it does. And I thought Collinsworth made a pretty good point last night. They've changed gears so many times over the years - offensive coach, defensive coach, game day coach who relies on coordinators, etc. Nothing has worked. Maybe the problem isn't coaching but the atmosphere and type of players they bring in.
  10. IMO Kinect is going to follow the Wii model - financial success, gamer fail.
  11. DENG YOU ARE A f***ING RETARD
  12. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Nov 5, 2010 -> 04:38 PM) The wealthy are the ones in charge and rig the system for their own benefit. This is not shocking, and this applies to just about all politicians everywhere. You say this, but in the national debate (and here) it's the evil white rich Republicans, not those bleeding heart liberals that are just fighting their asses off for the little guy.
  13. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 5, 2010 -> 11:59 AM) It depends on how you count charitable. The U.S. gives the most but the U.S. is also the wealthiest by far. When you ratio the total amount given to indicators of how wealthy the nation is, the U.S. drops significantly down the list. I bet if taxes and other costs of living weren't so high people could provide more!
  14. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Nov 5, 2010 -> 11:30 AM) I've tried to think this out as a life long, social conservative Christian who has more liberal tendencies when it comes to government. Jesus taught "love your neighbor as yourself". He taught to help the poor and lame. He taught parables about the rich who hoard their money. The bible says "There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus." But all I hear from these so called evangelical neo-cons is that people with money (those who can afford health care worth having) deserve priority over those who have nothing. I hate the argument that Universal Healthcare will create long lines and people will die while waiting for care. What they are saying, without saying it, is that people WITH good insurance deserve the care MORE than those who don't have it. If you cant afford insurance, then screw you, you're not worthy. The US is still the most charitable country in the world, and it's not even close. So I think we do a pretty good job of helping/looking out for others.
  15. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Nov 5, 2010 -> 07:15 AM) Conservatives are all racist white people who hate minorities and f**s! They want to keep as much money as possible and game the system however they can! They do everything in their power to find loop holes and tax shelters, and still b**** about taxes! They trick gullible middle and lower class whites into supporting their largess and voting for policies that actively hurt their own situation while benefiting the rich! See, we can all come up with ridiculous, stupid, unproductive stereotypes. What's hilarious about this is that everything I've read of yours on this board indicates that's exactly what you think.
  16. anyone going to the NU-IL game at Wrigley? Wonder why they decided to go West-East instead of North-South like they used to with the Bears.
  17. Anyone else have NBA 2k11? I've only played a handful of games, but I still have ZERO feel for the controls. They're not very intuitive. I can't seem to do simple dribbling moves, like a crossover. Should I be using some combination with the stick and L2? Anyone have any tips?
  18. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 4, 2010 -> 07:38 PM) I hope someone else just saw what DROSE did there. Holy s***. his quickness is not talked about enough. he gave the slightest juke and exploded to the basket.
  19. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 4, 2010 -> 11:59 AM) October monthly number to be announced tomorrow. Expected to see small net increase. September was growth in private sector, but big drop in public sector due (I think) to census or some such thing. Partly. The report also cites "local government" job losses. Even if there's a small net gain in October, we're still talking about a small numbers of jobs. Talk about a drop in the bucket. 50k job increase out of the what, 15 million unemployed?
  20. QUOTE (jasonxctf @ Nov 4, 2010 -> 11:45 AM) not sure if i'm misreading your comment or not, but each month of 2010 has had private sector job growth. 20k more jobless claims this last week. I think in October there was a net loss of 95k in both public/private sector. The situation is not getting any better. Edit: oops, sorry, i was reading the october 8, 2010 report for SEPTEMBER job results. Not sure about October, other than the 20k jobless claims that was reported today.
  21. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Nov 4, 2010 -> 11:25 AM) I dont think anyone believes that India will cut ties with America. But I dont think its a good idea to snub them either. I also dont believe that the US is spending money just to spend money, and that if it is $200mil a day, there is a justifiable reason. What would be the incentive to spend lavishly in India for no reason? And we rely on India too. India will become one of the largest markets in the world. The US will need the Indian markets. Its just not a risk Im willing to take. And because I doubt the US is spending money just to spend money, than the $200mil, $200bil or whatever it may be is worth it. Do the ends always justify the means? Seriously, you'd be ok with spending 200 billion on India? You know that the country is STILL losing jobs right?
  22. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Nov 4, 2010 -> 10:26 AM) But that is doing business. If I have a very important client and they are going to be signing agreements, I go and meet them. You cant just slap your business partners in the face, every once in a while you actually have to put in the time and effort. Its not like Obama goes to India every month, he doesnt even go there every year. So if over a 4 year period Obama spends $800mil wining and dining the second most populous country in the world, a country who may play a vital role in the war on terror and a country that can help the US offset China, I dont see it as a problem. I think there are plenty of other horrific uses of money. But once in a while we have to keep up good relations. Again, when did our relationship with India suddenly decline to the point where we HAVE to go there OR ELSE? I don't think anyone is arguing that we should give the world the middle finger and tell them to come here or call us, but come on. IF (and it's a big if clearly) we're spending this much money, I'd argue it's not worth the cost.
  23. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Nov 4, 2010 -> 10:41 AM) This is the bizarre deification that I don't like. They thrust in the idea of rejecting the divine right of kings, not equality between all humans. This was brought up as an example to illustrate that they were humans and made mistakes, but you're trying to defend it. I think it is ludicrous to give white, wealthy, slave-owning males credit for women's suffrage or freeing slaves or equal rights. Minority rights weren't granted from on high, they were fought for, often violently. You're still missing my point, so whatever. I dunno how you can deny their role in it when prominent abolitionists and our justice system used their words as a basis for their arguments. You seem to think that i'm arguing that they held the gun of a Yankee Civil War soldier, literally freeing slaves from southern plantations.
  24. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Nov 4, 2010 -> 10:33 AM) That's not my point. I wasn't asking if the US hadn't one or if the French never revolted, those are red herrings. You can't give them credit for every civil rights movement that happened decades or centuries after their deaths simply because they wrote "all mean are created equal," because, in practice, they believed differently. You're ignoring my point. They thrust into the political and governmental arena the idea of equality between humans. Not some guy writing prose on his thoughts of humans, but actual politicians and lawmakers. Those very ideas were used decades later as a basis for freeing slaves and granting minority rights. I'm not saying give the founding fathers total credit for freeing slaves, but in the end you have to give them some because without starting the equality ball rolling, who knows if it would have gotten to the point where freeing slaves would have happened or thinking minorities were equal would have happened.
  25. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 4, 2010 -> 10:29 AM) By the way, the book that the series was based on about John Adams is a fantastic read. The David McCullough book is, I agree. IMO it's one of the better ones because Adams was a pretty fascinating guy throughout the whole period. He's basically the old grump in the background that didn't get along with anyone and felt disrespected most of the time. The book is based mainly on the letters he sends to and from Abigail, so it's his opinions and thoughts on whatever is going on. And yes, it was a contentious situation. Tory support was around, but I think that was more New York. Boston was one of the first American cities to really turn on the Crown, and a lot of it was because of the massacre, but a lot of it was pent up frustration (hence the Bostonian "mob" that caused the massacre to begin with).
