I bet Wise and Owens are in because they can lay down bunts. I guess we are trying the speed game today. Maybe if they get on, they can mess with Halladay.

QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Sep 5, 2008 -> 11:06 AM) great imput! I was just thinking that, the dude was just missing homeruns and still getting big hits in Boston playing with the injury. The dude will be back just in time for the playoffs if we make it. I garuntee that. I am seeing a Kirk Gibson-type walk-off in the playoffs.

QUOTE (letsgoarow @ Aug 25, 2008 -> 03:40 PM) Lets hope he can have a good inning, but they are sending up some good hitters. Huff has been great this year... Huff was ejected on April 28th. They will have to hit someone else in his place. -

QUOTE (watchtower41 @ Aug 8, 2008 -> 03:59 PM) Any chance they get Giles before the weekend is over? I thought Giles already blocked a deal to the other Sox. Let's take the first from the defending World Champs minus one Manny Ramirez.

QUOTE (Brian @ Aug 6, 2008 -> 04:18 PM) Ugh. Play the lefties vs. lefty arm, sit em against righties. Brilliant! I imagine the fact that those two played the whole game yesterday while Konerko did not may have something to do with it.

QUOTE (WilliamTell @ Jul 7, 2008 -> 02:15 PM) In 2006 they started getting hot in June, and never let up. Exactly. I don't know why everyone assumes they can't continue to win. They may not continue to win at the .857 clip they are at now, but they are a well-balanced team with a great manager and special desire to beat the White Sox. Expect to fight them until the end, literally with the second to last series of the year being in Minnesota.

QUOTE (kane0730 @ Jun 17, 2008 -> 09:49 AM) Xavier Nady should miss this series, so that should help. That just means we will see more of the infamous Jason Michaels. I wonder if they realize they have somewhat of a Sox killer on their team. -

QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ May 7, 2008 -> 08:55 AM) With the troubles the Sox have had this year facing soft tossers, Livan could potentially send this team back in time. Not to mention that most of this team has not seen him before, and that is never good either. Let's hope tonight is all about changing trends. -

Question: What happened to the Cuban SS?
PorkChopExpress replied to Chombi's topic in Sox Baseball Headquarters
He supposedly played SS and CF. I don't think he is a leadoff type hitter, but he may be a much cheaper option than Rowand or Jones in CF and we wouldn't have to give up anything but money to sign him. Someone else pointed out in another section of this board that signing free agents may be our best option. I would love to see us sign Fukodome and this guy. I don't know how his defense in CF is, though. Worth the risk? -

QUOTE(iamshack @ Nov 29, 2007 -> 11:34 AM) I think if the Angels had offered Kendrick/Willits/Mathis/Adenhart, MCab would be an Angel by now. I haven't read anything like that. What I have read is that they have offered Kendrick/Willits/Mathis and might consider adding Saunders or someone to that package. But not Adenhart. All the better. I know there have been issues between the two teams as to if player A is included, then player B is not. Obviously I do not know exactly who is being offered, but if what you say is true, Don't you think the White Sox could put together a better offer at this point? Is Danks/Fields/Gio/(Sweeney or Owens)/(Richar or Bourgeois or Getz or Shelby) better than Kendrick/Willits/Mathis/(Saunders or Santana)? All I'm getting at is that people are saying there is no way we can beat the Angels' offer, or the Dodgers for that matter, but I think we can, and I think we should. -

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Nov 29, 2007 -> 11:10 AM) I don't think that deal outbids the Angels deal. Fields is more valuable than Mathis or Willits, but Kendrick probably beats all the guys we'd be putting up in value, and so does Adenhart. I think a rough valuation of the guys on that list would be: Kendrick, Adenhart, Danks, Fields, Willits, Sweeney, Mathis, Then the last guy. You can quibble with me on little bits, but I think that with the way you built those deals, the players that LAA is offering are just worth more than the players we'd be offering. Assuming your ranking is accurate, do you think we can still outbid the Angels with the quantity over quality concept. Add two more guys instead of one. Give them Danks, Fields, Sweeney/Owens, Gio, Richar/Getz/Bourgeois/Shelby, and Lucy/Armstrong. They would be getting six players in return, which is a little ridiculous, I know, but we are talking about one of the best hitters to come along in the past decade. Is it too crazy, or just crazy enough? -

PorkChopExpress replied to RudyLawRules's topic in Sox Baseball Headquarters
I've been thinking about this. The rumors are that the Marlins are looking for four players, 3 major leaguers and a pitcher or two players and two pitchers (per mlb.com). The Angels are said to be offering a package including like: Kendrick (2B), Mathis ©, Willits (OF), Adenhart (P). Why can't the White Sox swoop in and offer Fields (3B), Danks (P), Gio (P), one of Richar/Getz/Shelby/Bourgeois (2B) and Sweeney (OF)? We are offering five players instead of four covering similar positions. Fields = Kendrick, Danks/Gio > Adenhart (yes, he's supposed to be good, but Danks has a year of experience under his belt and Gio is supposed to be good too), Sweeney Mathis. If they need the ctacher, maybe we offer Lucy or Armstrong. I just don't think it is impossible for us to get Cabrera, but we will have to pay for him. Then, the Angels will still be looking for a big bat, and we offer Konerko for Kotchman and Figgins/Willits. We sign a back of the rotation veteran like Chacon or Colon or Hernandez. Then we look something like: Figgins/Willits CF O. Cabrera SS Thome DH M. Cabrera LF Dye RF Kotchman 1B Crede 3B Pierzynski C Uribe/Richar/Getz/Bourgeois 2B Beuhrle Vazquez Contreras Floyd Chacon/Hernandez/Colon/FA Jenks Linebrink Thornton Wasserman Logan MacDougal/Masset/FA. It looks like a good team to me. -
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Nov 27, 2007 -> 05:30 PM) Yeah Billy Beane is obviously going to want a lot here and I imagine we'd probably have to give up a package of DLS, Gio and Carter. Obviously it massively improves our rotation, and it would give us a very 3-some of Haren, Buehrle and Vazquez. I'm just iffy on giving up on our farm system though, considering the age of the nucleus of our ballclub. I imagine a team such as the Mets would really target Haren though and give up some of their top prospects to make a deal happen, so they may make a better offer. I do that deal in a heartbeat. DLS probably won't be MLB ready for two years or maybe more. Gio is supposed to be close to ready, but may need another year still. Haren is awesome now, and controllable for the near future.

QUOTE(NCsoxfan @ Nov 27, 2007 -> 12:47 PM) I'm going on the record to say that KW should trade for Mark Prior. I predict he will have a good season (16ish wins, low 3's ERA) and would be well worth the gamble and sacrifice of a B level prospect. Anyone else agree besides the 90% of you who will probably disagree. I'm all for it as I agree that he will bounce back. But it will be tough to convince the Cubs to trade him to us due to the PR issues that could arise if he does well for us. Although they did trade Garland to us for Karchner so I may be wrong.

QUOTE(WHITESOXRANDY @ Oct 19, 2007 -> 08:28 AM) http://www.dailyherald.com/story/?id=60316 I'll bet 5 bucks against my house right now that the Sox don't even come close to signing him. But, even if they brought the same team back with ARod instead of Uribe they wouldn't come close to winning the divison with an outfield of Fields, Owens and Dye and Crede's questionable performance level and the bullpen such as it is. I know this topic has been beaten to death so I'm stunned Rozner came out with it yet again. Is he serious or just filling space ? I would love to see the Sox sign ARod even for 10 / $ 300 because that would make them a lot of money and a huge story as long as he's with the team. But, I owuldn't want them to finish 3rd or 4th with him. They would need to add some more pieces which, right now, would mean increasing the payroll even more than $ 30 mil. I can't see how the Sox would do that. Thoughts ? I saw something mentioned on the boards here suggesting a trade of Konerko and Garland to the Angels. I think if the Sox were to get ARod, you're definitely saying goodbye to those two at least whether it's to the Angels or not. Otherwise the Sox will just have to increase payroll drastically.
