  1. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 10:10 PM) If you put him at 2nd, Beckham at SS, and sign Chone to play 3rd, then you're putting together an Ozzie style offense. Also, who else thinks KW will go balls out to get Carl Crawford this offseason? Carl Crawford makes a lot of sense. A 1-2 of Chone and Crawford would be exactly what Ozzie has always wanted, probably since his days in Florida with Pierre and Castillo at the top of the lineup.
  2. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 10:09 PM) I just think he's not very good. It also seems like he never draws walks anymore. He might be a decent player for the Pirates or Nationals, but he sure seems like a weak link if you want to have a strong lineup. If Nix can develop into a more consistent offensive player, I'd have no problem with a Getz-Nix platoon at 2B. Good defense, good speed, Getz has shown he is quite clutch, and Nix has some good pop. I would have no problem with that in the 9-hole.
  3. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 10:07 PM) Ozzie's too stubborn to move Alexei back to 2nd base. Is it just me, or does it make a LOT of sense to move Alexei to CF in the offseason. If he can play a solid CF with his offensive production, doesn't that answer a huge hole we've had since 2005?
  4. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 07:15 PM) HOLMBERG!!!This pick is going to look better and better as the year goes on. As soon as he gets his control working, he's going to open up some eyes in the minors. I will say this one thing... he better develop some velocity.
  5. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 10:02 PM) In a perfect world, Getz is your #9 hitter and that gives you some excellent speed when the order turns over. I still don't think Danks is a top of the order hitter, and more likely to be in the 7th or 8th spot. I could see Danks as a no. 5 hitter if he develops power. However, it seems like with us and outfield prospects, that's a big if.
  6. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 09:59 PM) I don't care if he only hits 18-20 homers a year. With his ability to hit doubles, that would be deadly in the 3rd spot with fast players in the 1/2 spots. I guess it depends on who else is on the team. Some people might question having Mauer bat second, but it makes sense that you would want to get your two best hitters at bat in the first. I also noticed Beckham isn't pointing his bat as forward anymore and has his hands in closer, so that should help him hit the inside fastball better. It's so refreshing to see young players making the right adjustments.
  7. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 09:48 PM) What a f***ing stud! Gordon makes me so happy. I still wonder where his future spot in the lineup is. I'm gonna say the 2 hole, mainly because he likely won't hit for the power you want for your no. 3 hitter, but you want to get him an AB in the 1st inning.
  8. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 06:02 PM) My prediction is we're going to see Fields and a big prospect like Hudson sent to Baltimore for Sherrill, and it wouldn't surprise me if KW expands the deal to include someone like Scott or Huff. I really like Scott, but unfortunately he can't play defense and his value is at an all-time high. As earlier stated though, a Fields and Poreda for Sherrill is very interesting.
  9. I would have no problem with a Fields for Pie with Wise getting DFA'ed trade. It'd be a failed prospect for failed prospect, but Pie is younger and worst case scenario is that he is a decent bench player (a better version of Wise). However, I'd prefer to get Josh Anderson if the Tigers can't find a trade partner, and then DFA Wise. Then, I'd let Fields go to AAA and hope he rakes to raise his trade value.
  10. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 09:27 PM) Why couldn't Kapler have just hit that ball 20 feet shorter last Thursday? It's going to be frustrating when Fields is traded tonight and Wise stays on the roster. My problem with Wise isn't that he's a bad player... It still irritates me how he complained about getting boo'ed after he came back from injury. I can't stand players who make excuses for their s***ty play. Instead of saying, "You know, it's tough to come back after being injured." Be a man and admit you suck and say something like, "I know I've been struggling and it is my fault. I'm gonna do nothing but work my ass off to get better." He's got a decent set up at the plate, some pop, is very fast, and a solid defender. I would have no problem with him as a late inning replacement in CF or LF and pinch runner. I got no problem with a player like him on the bench. But he has no business starting if someone isn't injured or needs a day off. But because of his attitude and making excuses for his sucky-ness, I wan't him off the team.
  11. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 09:09 PM) It's a damn shame the Cubs had enough balls to fire Gerald Perry even though the cubs offense was near the top last year, and wasn't THAT bad this year. I still don't think that was the right move but they made it. I've said it before, and I'll say it again.... I'd love to see a complete overhaul of our coaching staff. Keep Ozzie as manager (he ain't going anywhere for a while unless he quits). Don Cooper is in the clear, he's been really good for us for a long time. Walker would be the first casualty. He's been the hitting coach for an offense that has been much too inconsistent for a very long time. You gotta wake these guys up. Not sure who to replace him with, maybe Chris Chambliss (he's currently the manager for Charlotte). Next would be to fire Cox or demote him from 3B coach. He seems like a good baseball guy but he has no business being the 3B coach. I'd get rid of Cora or at least demote him back to 3B. I don't know, I just get the feeling that he is a yes man to Ozzie. I'd move Baines from 1B coach, but try and keep him with the organization. Maybe move him to 3B coach. For a 1B coach, I want someone who has a history of being a great base stealer who knows the technique (Pods would a good option at 1B when he retires). I always thought Rickey Henderson would be a great fit at 1B coach if he wasn't so f***ing crazy. As for bench coach, not sure. I think Rockin Robin would be a good option.
  12. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 09:07 PM) Wow, that word isn't in the filter? Haha. Nice. What type of world would we live in if "c***" was blocked?
  13. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 09:07 PM) Jeff Cox and Greg Walker don't deserve their jobs. Jeff Cox would fit the position of drunken fan behind White Sox dugout perfectly. We could get him a uniform just like Ronnie Woo Woo as well.
  14. I would have loved to get Kotsay anytime in the early 2000's. He was a damn solid player. Good D in CF and a very solid bat. He's really regressed though, but is still a very solid bench player and still only 33-34 so he's still got some gas left in the tank. No problem with this move what-so-ever.
  15. QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 08:47 PM) So if the other team commits an error it's not a perfect game for the opposing pitcher? s***, I f***ed that up.
  16. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 08:43 PM) oh well. that was f***ing nerve racking to watch. still wish he had the perfect going though He's still got the no-no!
  17. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 08:42 PM) Nope, they give a defender an error for a dropped foul pop. It's a tricky one. The batter never reaches base, but it is an error. I'll say yes because it is still 27 men retired without any of them reaching base. But then again, to be perfect is to have the final line score of 0-0-0.
  18. Personally, I don't see how Fields is Walker's fault at all. Anyone average joe baseball fan could tell him what he's doing wrong at the plate. Obviously though Greg Walker and everyone else just hasn't been able to get through to him. You think by now he would have learned how to swing but he still looks utterly lost up there. I got no problem with seeing the end of Fields. Shame cause he had the tools, but a slow bat and horrible mechanics did him in. Hopefully we can still get something of value for him. I really now feel like the Richard to the pen move is just to hold him until the deadline. In the pen, he can't really hurt his value. By August 1st, he'll either have been part of a package to get us an upgrade in the rotation or back in the rotation with Colon DFA'ed. Love the Mark Kotsay for Brian Anderson move. Anderson is in the same boat as Fields and he never learned how to actually be a hitter at bat after several years here. He was a bust. I'd probably rather have him over Wise, but Wise is a better pinch runner. As for Kotsay, he's a solid vet, can play all 3 OF spots as well as 1B, is a very good pinch hitter, and an overall good baseball player. Plus, it looks like Boston is paying most of his contract. Also, most importantly, we'll hopefully be able to see this at Sox games for now on (Mark Kotsay's wife):
  19. QUOTE (rangercal @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 10:25 AM) In all honesty, that throw was crap. Just like 75%+ of AJ's throws. Considering Alexei was no where near the base and AJ had no target, I'd say that was one of his better throws.
  20. QUOTE (spiderman @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 10:17 AM) Would you murder somebody? I really think if I wanted to, I could get away with murder.
  21. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Jul 27, 2009 -> 09:52 PM) thought it was the other way around There was a rumor saying the Red Sox offered Buchholz straight up for V-Mart and got turned down, and then they came back with the package of Bowden, Masterson, and another prospect and still got turned down. And then there was a rumor from a different source saying the Indians wanted Buchholz. So obviously, someone is wrong here or the Indians want Buchholz as well as a prospect or two.
  22. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 04:33 AM) Anything would include dealing Danks or Beckham. Obviously you aren't that serious, but I also doubt the Rockies are even remotely interested in dealing him, leading the Wild Card and all, without getting something seriously good in return. I didn't say I'd give anything, I said I would DO anything....
  23. QUOTE (rangercal @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 09:43 AM) I have a great deal of respect for AJ myself. Yesterday is a red flag to me. I don't really mind him mouthing off to the other team, but leave White Sox players alone (especially in public) . You have a problem with him calling out a teammates lazy play? I'm sorry, but I'm glad he did it, someone had to.
  24. not even close. AJ and Ramirez got into a bit of a verbal argument, and Dye just so happened to be around there. And then Ozzie got pissed and threw a bucket filled with double bubble to the ground. Not that big of a deal, but Ramirez needs to get his head out of his ass.
  25. Baines Jr. His dad probably taught him well.
