Our two biggest rivals are getting better today... lets see if KW does anything to make us better. Only what, less than 3 hours left?
-
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 12:15 PM) Being "instant" WS favorites means nothing. Now if you can guarantee a WS title (which nobody can ever do) then you might have a point. They also get 4 draft picks if they leave via FA. You can't guarantee anything, but they would have the best shot out of everybody.
-
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 12:10 PM) That would be pretty stupid, IMO. Most fans don't seem to get this. But a GM has to look 3-5 years down the line as well as focusing on the present. To give up what it would take to get Halladay on top of what they just gave up for Lee would cripple them for years. To be instant WS favorites for this year and 2010 would be worth it.
-
Imagine if the Phillies go after Halladay as well. I think it'd be a smart idea if they just sold out the farm system and got Doc. Instant WS favorites with Doc and Lee in that rotation.

QUOTE (BaseballNick @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 11:54 AM) Rosenthal says Detroit is looking into a Luke Scott deal as well. That would be another solid addition if they could swing that deal. If they get Scott as well, and we just stand pat, might as well just hand them the division, IMO.
-
Well, Seattle did trade away Clement and some other solid prospects the other day for Jack freaking Wilson and Ian Snell. They seem pretty stupid to me.
-
QUOTE (kwolf68 @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 11:49 AM) Which means something major is brewing. I was thinking the same thing. It seems like the past couple years, there was a lot of rumors around us and nothing happened. This year, it's all quiet with us... I smell a blockbuster! But in all honesty though, probably nothing will happen.
-
I would give almost anything to get Justin Smoak.
-
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 08:37 AM) I've never seen it. Thornton? Yes, often - he's about 95% fastballs as a rule. Jenks? I've seen him sometimes not throw the curveball, or not throw the slider, if one isn't working or whatever. But I have never (in recent years) seen him go a full inning on nothing but fastballs. I believe it was against Detroit (not the recent series, about a month or so back, when we were at home), he blew a save and threw 99% fastballs in the inning.
-
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 08:25 AM) Except that Bobby doesn't do anything like that. Thornton does though, and has for a long time - he only very rarely throws in that slider. more than a couple times this year, Jenks has thrown nothing but fastballs.
-
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 08:30 AM) His home park is the worst in the majors for hitting, I am sure Fenway wont be a problem He loves to drive the ball the other way. Most of his home runs are left of centerfield. And if pulls the ball, well, Fenway park is probably the worst place to be for a left handed home run hitter.
-
Fenway Park does not suit Adrian Gonzalez well.
-
Makes sense, mainly because if Mauer wants it, you better get it.
-
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 12:19 AM) Brandon McCarthy was 10 times the pitching prospect Honel was. I thought Honel had a ton of buzz around him before his arm problems started to occur? Oh well, Hudson is the GOAT
-
Zumaya being gone might be a bad thing for us because he's sucked ass for most of the year. He's got absolutely no control.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 12:00 AM) A small part of me hopes that O-Cab gets traded to the Twins just so we could see how far Joe Cowley's vendetta will go. Did anyone read some of his tweets about Swish during the game? Like this one? Swish is probably digging himself so much right now he doesn't know what to do. Maybe he could put more gel in his faux hawk.about 1 hour ago from txthttp://twitter.com/cst_sox Is this really necessary? Is this anything more then petty and vindictive? Cowley's been doing this s*** for years, and he's yet to be called on it. Not liking two players who had a difficult time here is perfectly logical. But continuing to harp on them even after they leave the team, offering nothing conducive to intelligent conversation is ridiculous for a guy who wants to be respected in his profession. I don't mind it at all. I think it's funny.
-
Seems like it was a precautionary if anything. I love the fact opposing hitters are batting .193 against him. Is he the best pitching prospect we've had since Kris Honel (before his arm fell off)? Also, nice to see Viciedo tearing the cover off of the ball.
-
Was at the game, great game to be at. Thought we took out Floyd too early and would had liked to see him stay in. He did strike out the previous 2 batters and was still throwing in the low 90's. Whatever, we got the W. Also, Thornton is spending way too much time with Bobby. Yeah, you're not gonna trick many hitters if you throw 12 straight fastballs.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 30, 2009 -> 04:20 PM) Lets make things clear. The only person that can judge someones pain tolerance is themselves. I don't recall Alexei missing a ton of games due to injuries in his short career so I think he deserves the benefit of the doubt and your comments were absolutely ridiculous. I'm just saying it seems that way to me.
-
I'd definitely do the proposed deal you mentioned Gage. A 2010 rotation of Buehrle, Halladay, Danks, Floyd, and a rookie in the 5 spot is pretty damn solid. However, I still feel we need more offensive help this year to compete.
-
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 30, 2009 -> 12:05 PM) You managed to be both impossibly psychic (overexaggerated his injury) and offensive (vaginitis?) in one post. Good job. Also, have you ever had a severly sprained ankle? Because I can tell you it hurts like hell. Hurts worse than when I have broken bones before. Vaginitis is a south park reference. Overexaggerated might be the wrong way to describe. It seems to me he just doesn't have a high pain tolerance.

Sox versus Yankees July 30, 2009 game thread
BearSox replied to southsider2k5's topic in 2009 Season in Review
If Kotsay can play a competent CF, then there really is no reason to have Wise on this team. Leaving for the game in about 30 minutes. -
Marlins are close to getting Heath Bell, and would likely give up at least one of Andrew Miller or Sean West.

Reds and Blue Jays considering Rolen-Alonso swap.

If we traded Lexi to Boston, first I'd try and get Buchholz. -

If the reds are trading Alonso for Rolen, they better be getting another prospect in return, as well as more than half of Rolen's contract. This is absurd. I'd be all over a Dye for Alonso deal.
