  1. Wow, this makes no sense... and even less sense if we plan on replacing Nix with Vizquel. I like Vizquel, but the guy can't hit anything and he should have retired a while ago. The whole argument that he will be a teacher for Alexei is garbage as well, we have two former middle infielders who both know how to speak the same language as Ramirez. If the manager and bench coach can't get through to Alexei, as well as every other coach on the staff, why in the hell would an over the hill 43 year old magically solve all of Alexei's problems? I do not see how in any way Vizquel makes this team any better except unless we signed him to be a rover MI coach.

    Moving on out....

about to leave... I know my mom is really sad, but she's doing a good job of keeping it together.
  3. Considering Ozzie rarely has his pitches go over 100-110 pitches, I'm not too worried about arm injuries.
  4. I definitely see KW making a hard push this offseason for Carl Crawford. Rays top prospect Desmond Jennings is practically MLB ready and they need to open up a spot for him, and Crawford is a FA at the end of next year. Crawford sure would look good in LF and in the 2 hole.
  5. Man, the Yankees have looked BAD. Glad to see us put more than 5 runs on the board.
  6. The 5 spot will likely be given to Torres while Colon is on the DL. But sadly, odds are we will give Colon the spot again after he comes off the DL. One thing I would do, get as many lefties I can from the waiver wire or whatever. We need more options than just Randy Williams.
  7. QUOTE (3 BeWareTheNewSox 5 @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 04:47 PM) I like the move and our staff, but let's calm down. Assuming Peavy is Peavy I think it's likely his ERA will rise to the 4's going from the NL and a pitcher's park to the AL and the Cell. It also makes me wonder why SD was willing to take what I think is a weak deal twice. The offense also needs to be changed from this 'summer only' streaky crap, so let's not start talking about the 'on paper' champions or anything like that. They needed to clear salary any way they could.
  8. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 04:19 PM) I'm excited to watch Poreda and Richard out in San Diego. With them in the NL on a bad team, I'm rooting for both of them. I think Richard could be the best out of the bunch.
  9. I think Hudson has established himself in the untouchable category for now.
  10. Gavin Floyd - 26 (2-3 years away from prime) John Danks - 24 (4+ years away from prime) Mark Buehrle - 30 (In prime) Jake Peavy - 28 (About to enter prime, true ACE potential when Healthy) Dan Hudson 22 (Tons of upside) Yeah, our rotation is looking damn good for the future. The best thing is, Floyd and Danks still have a while until they hit their prime.
  11. So, will Torres take the 5th spot while Colon is on the DL? Also would have liked to see us grab a lefty reliever. I don't think we can count on Randy Williams for the long run.
  12. Would have liked to keep Richard, but I can't really complain. He's only 28 (about to enter his prime), has about 5 years (4 or 5?) left on his contract, and the Pads are eating some of the contract. This move might not help us this year and it takes away 3 of our 4 best pitching prospects, but this move could be extremely beneficial in the future. Good job KW. Also, if we are still competing come August, Peavy could possibly return and provide us an added boost.
  13. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 03:06 PM) Encarnacion >> Fields Not even close. I know, but depending on who the minor leaguer was, we could have matched that deal.
  14. If they want a failed 3B prospect, they could have had Fields. Man, would our lineup look a whole lot better with Rolen at 3B and Beckham at 2B.
  15. QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 02:57 PM) Yeah...why would the Braves want LaRoche back? Why would the Red Sox want Kotchman if they are getting/got VMart? Kotchman makes sense as a defensive replacement, situational player, and left handed pinch hitter. What an unbelievable day by Boston. They got A LOT better without giving up a ton.
  16. I just posted this in the catch all thread: WTF!? Reports are the Red Sox are trading Adam LaRoche for Casey Kotchman. Red Sox have to be giving up a prospect as well because a straight up swap would be beyond idiotic by the Braves. This deadline is really f***ed up compared to previous years. A lot of moves are being made that makes you stop and say to yourself "WTF!?"

  18. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 02:48 PM) Per Jonathan Mayo. Yeah, someone got their lines mixed up. Unless they are getting Joey Votto back in the trade, Austin Jackson isn't going anywhere.
  19. Why did we trade for him in the 1st place?
  20. QUOTE (League @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 12:46 PM) He's been horrible at SS this year, and Alexei was terrible at 2B last year. Getz has been below average at second this year (-4.1 UZR, -6.2 UZR/150, -2.9 RngR), but he's got much better UZR rating across the board than Alexei did at 2b last year (-8.3 UZR, -10.6 UZR/150, -6.9 RngR), and 'Lexi is on the positive side of UZR(2.8), UZR/150(4.2) and RngR(4.3) at SS this season. Alexei was great at 2B last year, and no numbers can tell me differently.
  21. If we did decide to sell, the Rangers seem like a really good trading partner. They could use both Contreras and Dye.
  22. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 12:31 PM) Thats what I dont get, how is he an upgrade? He is a downgrade defensively and offensively he is about the same as the guy he is replacing. Frankly, if this means less of Nick Punto, I see this as a win for the White Sox. Punto (along with Gomez and other crappy Twin players) is tough against us, but for the rest of the league, he sucks. Having him play less is only a positive for the Twins.
  23. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 12:22 PM) What would a 34 yr old Rolen cost in trade? It's looking like the Jays wanting something back along the lines of Yonder Alonso.
  24. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 12:18 PM) Yes, because all the name players a team can get dictates who wins the division each year.... They can continue to stockpile older players and trade away all their young guys as much as they want IMO. The Sox are competing just fine now with our mix and we are poised to really have a nice young core in the near future. Competing just fine? This team has been the most bi-polar I've seen in a while. We've had really good starting pitching for most of the year, but our offense has been beyond streaky, and our bullpen is almost as streaky as the offense. I'm sorry, but this current team as is won't win the division if the Tigers keep improving like they have. That offense gets a whole lot better with Scott and a healthy Guillen in it.
  25. Cabrera REALLY improves them up the middle. They can have Harris play 2B.
