  1. Im no big basketball fan or expert, but Rose, LeBron, and Dirk = Dynasty. Hell, just Rose and LeBron = Dynasty.
  2. Chicago could be in the running, but instead of taking a perfectly good oppurtunity to build a bigger, brand new and top of the line stadium, we "renovated" the Historic Soldier Field by placing a freaking flying saucer on top of it. We could have a top of the line 80,000-100,000 seat stadium with a retractable roof. But no, that woulda made too much sense. I wish it would have happened cause that would mean we were actually a legit candidate to bring in another NFL franchise and give me an oppurtunity to root for a team that hopefully cared more about winning and putting out a good product instead of the s*** I have to go through with being a Bears fan.
  3. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ May 25, 2010 -> 08:23 PM) What the hell Q? Work a damn AB. No one on this team actually wants to get on-base. I don't know if most of the players we bring in are dumb or Greg Walker gives the ridiculously idiotic advise, or a combo of both, but we've consistently had some of the worst approaches to hitting as a team in baseball since the 07 season.
  4. Thinking about finally getting a new PS3. Only question, what game do I pick up as my starter game? I've been yearning to play the Show ever since last summer when my PS3 broke, while eating my copy of the Show 09 with it. However, Red Dead Redemption looks fantastic. Tough decision...
  5. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ May 25, 2010 -> 08:17 PM) I love Acta. He's one of my favorite managers, i've said as much last offseason. I dont love him, but I think he's easily one of the better managers in the league. I've liked him since his Nationals days. He got stuck with a s***ty team, but he didn't take s*** and always made sure his guys played the right way
  6. QUOTE (fathom @ May 25, 2010 -> 08:16 PM) Ramon Castro is such a lazy fat ass on the field. How can you not love this face?... It's as if when the picture was taken, someone was waving a twinkie in front of his face.
  7. You know Ozzie is throwing in the towel when he puts Linebrink in. Its not like our world beating offense had much hopes of a comeback anyway. Its something amazing for our offense to come through with 3 runs in 1 innings. But coming through with 3 runs when down in the 9th inning? That'd be something else. Am I crazy or do we have to be the worst team in the league with RISP (when we actually do get RISP)?
  8. QUOTE (SoxAce @ May 24, 2010 -> 06:06 PM) I've said it many, many times here. Swisher really got a bad rep when he was here. Dude still put up a .351 OBP when was hitting like .190 (not to mention ridiculously bad luck in BABIP) for us. We'll be extremely fortunate if Pierre can give us a .340-.345 OBP for us. Again, this is a classic example of overrating OBP. You aren't going to walk in the winning run from second base. In fact, Swisher being too patient and looking for the walk cost him and the team a lot of important potential hits. Sure, that .350 OBP looks decent. But no matter who you are, a .200 BA isn't going to cut it over the long haul. Would I take Swisher in LF now and think we traded him too early for nothing? Yes. But it was a dumb trade in acquiring him in the first place. It just isn't smart to give up 3 very talented players for 1 pretty good but not great player.
  9. can we please DFA Castro and call Lucy back up. I know Lucy is no world beater, but at least he plays fantastic D and looks somewhat competent at bat.
  10. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ May 23, 2010 -> 07:40 PM) Ely would be hammered in the AL, just my gut instinct. I don't know about that. I don't think he's ever gonna be a world beater, but I think he can be a very solid pitcher in the MLB for many years. He lacks the stuff to be great, but has a very good change and amazing command that should allow him to be a solid 4 or 5 for many years. And who knows, maybe better than that.
  11. QUOTE (Ozzie Ball @ May 23, 2010 -> 07:34 PM) Swisher's not mediocre. Right now, he isn't. But thats thanks to a new and much improved batting stance and approach he learned away from the White Sox. But the guy we traded for was mediocre, maybe above. I'm sorry, but a .250 hitter who hits only 20-30 homers, knocks in less than 100, strikeout over 130 times, and plays mediocre D... In my eyes, that's nothing special. Solid, probably better than mediocre, yeah. But you don't trade 3 very good prospects for that. If Swisher keeps up what he's doing now, sure. But there's no guarantee he keeps up what he's been doing throughout the course of thise season all year, as he has always been a streaky hitter as well. Would I take Swisher in LF and bat him in a 5-7 spot, hell yeah. But would I trade Ryan Sweeney, Gio Gonzalez, and Fautino De Los Santos for that? Hell freaking No!
  12. Both the Pierre and Swisher trades were god awful. You don't trade good prospects, especially pitchers (Gio, DLS, Ely), for mediocre position players.
  13. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ May 19, 2010 -> 08:07 AM) Is that why the Marlins have had winning records and grossly outperformed expectations the last few years? Lets see how they do this year considering this has been the most truble Hanley has been since he came into the league. He seems to only get worse every year.
  14. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ May 16, 2010 -> 03:46 PM) Whoa, Bear Sox. Where the hell have you been, buddy? Busy with athletics and school. But I try and make time as much as possible, no matter how frustrating it might be, for White Sox baseball.
  15. His attitude = losing, no matter how talented he is.
  16. Ive always felt that Contreras' best role would be in the pen since the 2007 season, and he's blossoming in the pen now. Good for him. He loves the game and I wish everyone on our team had his work ethic.
  17. This is another clear example of why Greg Walker needs to go now. Im a fan of the whole hands off approach, make minor suggestions or alterations from there. But there is a clear hole in Beckham's swing and approach that needs to be fixed. The way he holds his hands is just awful. Sure, he was able to get away with due to his high talent level, you dont hit the way he did in college, the minors, and last year without having a ton of talent. However, pitchers see his weakness and they have been relentless exploiting it this whole year, and Beckham has yet to make a single adjustment. Watch every Beckham AB closely, overwhelmingly, you will see breaking stuff outside and fastballs out of the zone inside. If he re-adjusted his hands and held his bat up in a more classic position, he'd see much better results. The way he holds his bat now is just wrong and you'll never really see that with any professional hitters. Sure, it worked for him for a while, but it dont work no more.
  18. Im not too shocked by Quentin having struggles, as I feared that his original wrist injury back from 08 might linger longer than most people thought. I wouldnt be surprised if most of Quentin's struggles have been mental. Maybe he isn't able to grip the bat the same way or does snap the wrists through like he used to. I was never a huge fan of his stance, as it does have some holes, but Quentin is far more talented than a below .200 hitter.
  19. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Mar 28, 2010 -> 07:48 AM) The weather helped Wood out a ton. It is kind of like looking at Zambrano's no hitter, you need to look at the situation as a whole, same with Buehrle's no hitter. There also wasn't much pressue on Wood as there was no no-hitter or perfect game on the line. Over all though, I think Wood's was more dominating but the fact that a contact pitcher threw a perfect game is more impressive. It didnt matter what the weather would be like, the stuff he had that day... he was gonna get 20 k's or close to it no matter who he faced or where he faced them. His slider that day was probably the nastiest pitch anyone has thrown in the past 20 years. Top it off he was setting up his slider with a 99 mph fastball with movement, the hitters had no chance.
  20. To the above post... your playoff system is almost as confusing as the BASEketball playoff system... also, whats the point of having a 162 game regular season when the playoff system is so long and confusing? Make it simple, add two expansion teams, 16 in the AL and 16 in the NL. Eliminate divisions, and have the best 4 teams from each league advance to the post season. Eliminate interleague play except for 1 series a year against your opposite league rival (ie Sox and Cubs). Also, make each league play with the same set of rules. Playoff system works the same. They had it right back in the day, they made the regular season actually mean something. And the team with the best record in their league won the pennant. For some sports, a long, elaborate playoff system makes sense. However, when you are dealing with a 162 game regular season, there is no need for long playoff systems. I would prefer the best team from the American face the best team from the National league and let that be the playoffs.
  21. Id be a bigger fan of this if this wasnt just a bunch of BS. For the past several years, I've watched plenty of players "loaf" and not receive any repercussions for such actions. Players would hate to play for me, as I would actually require them to hustle on and off the field, run out "routine" plays, and actually play the game how its suppossed to be played.
  22. Can I get my sub-name changed to Ignoxious, please.
  23. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jan 15, 2010 -> 08:08 AM) Considering only 4 teams from the AL will make it to the playoffs your odds are good. You have to love starting spring training with a pessimistic, p***ed off attitude. Enjoiy the season!!!!! If anything it shows how high my expectations are, and with the good moves we made, the fact that we are going with a DH by committee and going with Juan Pierre at leadoff... it better not screw us over, cause we have a pitching staff ready to win, and I dont want to waste any of their years.
  24. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jan 14, 2010 -> 09:04 PM) When i said bulked up, I meant what you are referring to about Mauer, not McGwire type muscles. I realize that now
