DEM Primaries/Candidates thread
QUOTE(YASNY @ Jan 30, 2008 -> 11:03 AM) My point was that if his wife's health is that bad and he can't handle a hectic week, he has no business in the race or being president. Exactly.

DEM Primaries/Candidates thread
QUOTE(kapkomet @ Jan 30, 2008 -> 10:47 AM) I'm telling you, the Clintons don't do a DAMN thing without calculating the ramifications. Don't be surprised if Hillarity gets the endorsement. Unlike the other candidates who just do whatever and hope it works? Would you want a President who doesn't calculate the ramifications? Everyone of them hires the best brain trust they can to get elected. I am certain Edwards and Guiliani weighed when was the best time to drop out to save their careers and boost them forward. They are weighing what endorsing or not endorsing a candidate will do to their careers.

For GOP only
QUOTE(YASNY @ Jan 30, 2008 -> 10:44 AM) That's exactly why I said in another thread the he'd win the general if he gets the GOP nomination. His independant streak. I think most of the citizens of the good ol' US of A sick and tired of this partisan BS. You've got your left wing loons and your right wing idiots. Those are the feathers on the tips of the wings, the farthest away from heart of the American eagle. Nicely put.

QUOTE(YASNY @ Jan 30, 2008 -> 10:20 AM) I kind of surprised at Edwards timing on dropping out. One more week, and he's got the opportunity grab quite a few more delegates. He'd then be in a postion play to king/queen maker. The Club management may have strongly urged him to drop out.

WLS Reporting Body Parts Found
Anyone can do a quick check and discover how to beat a lie detector test, but actually doing it is another thing. http://www.wikihow.com/Cheat-a-Polygraph-Test-(Lie-Detector) I'll even do the search. So now no one here should ever fail.

DEM Primaries/Candidates thread
I always worry when we attack someone for making a new decision at a later date. Sometimes it is a great idea and perfectly understandable to change your mind. The I'm going to stick by this decision no matter how stupid or no matter how many peoplke get killed is dangerous. Attack the second decision as right or wrong, but not the changing of the mind. I'd applaud if the second decision was better than the first.

DEM Primaries/Candidates thread
QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Jan 30, 2008 -> 10:05 AM) Someone tell me, how can they tell the candidates that FL/MI will not count and then consider having them count? That doesn't even sound plausible. Someone needs to explain this to me right now. The thought of Hillary as Pres. makes me a tad queasy. Basically primaries are run by the parties to select who from their "club" will be the nominee. The laws are rather loose. Kind of like if the Steve9347 Party decided they wanted to field a candidate in the General, that party could choose how they selected their candidate. They could decide to hold primaries or they could decide to go on Springer for a winner take all confrontation and studio vote.

DEM Primaries/Candidates thread
QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 30, 2008 -> 09:39 AM) Actually, according to the polls I've seen, Clinton and Obama both beat the pants off Romney in a general. McCain is the GOP candidate who has a shot. I am projecting what a few months of campagning will do, and the images of the candidates side by side.

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 30, 2008 -> 09:13 AM) Romney can't beat anyone in November, so I'd flip Romney and Obama there. I think the list would be... My resoning was Romney has a much better chance of getting the GOP nomination than Obama getting the Dem. So if he isn'ty going to make step one, it was tough to place him ahead of Romney. Looking at some match ups Clinton - McCain is a race edge Clinton Clinton - Romney is a Clinton winner Obama - McCain is a McCain win Obama - Romney is a race edge Obama

QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Jan 29, 2008 -> 05:10 PM) I was going to vote for myself, but then I realized I get to take advantage of myself whenever I want. I'll vote for you, if you vote for me, same deal for y'all And for those of you thinking of voting for Nuke, he's currently drinking in Iraq, I prefer South Padre Island during Spring Break

Sexism or Racism
QUOTE(Soxy @ Jan 29, 2008 -> 01:47 PM) I would agree with you. None of my male colleagues get called "dear" or complimented on how they look when they give a talk. It's frustrating--but we also don't have any minority men in my program to compare my treatment to. Anyway, here is an amazing op-ed from a while ago from the NYT. The other women in my program (and some who've finished) all found it really resonated--as did some non-academic chums. Do guys receive any credit for looking good?

Sexism or Racism
People vote for the candidate that they think will benefit them the most. We may say, we're looking for someone who will do best for America, and by extension, that would mean best for themselves. It's easy to believe that someone like themselves would be most likely to produce the most beneficial results. Perhaps that isn't being racist or sexist, it's being selfish.

Sexism or Racism
Same issue, different labels. Dismissing someone's contribution and the content of their character, or accepting serious flaws, based on their appearance or genetics, hurts us all. But hey we even dismiss Harvard Economic experts

SDOGPEIT
QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 28, 2008 -> 05:58 PM) You guys are welcome to think that if you want, but if you actually look on their websites, most of the candidates have a lot of specifics they are suggesting. I think they all have plans, and they all have specific CHANGES they want to make. So to me, that's not the issue. The issue is, which one might actually get it done. McCain looks like that guy to me, in the GOP - he knows how to actually work across the aisle, he's consistent in his convictions, and he isn't overly divisive. Obama similarly for the Dems, has a track record of not being as divisive and actually working with the other party. gp

DEM Primaries/Candidates thread
QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 28, 2008 -> 12:47 PM) OK, I read it. At the time I read the Trib (I usually avoid the Sun Times). I still see the same thing - it doesn't look squeeky clean, but frankly, I don't see anything too underhanded about it either. No pay for play. Just Obama and Rezko trying to help each other out financially. The only sleeze in that was Obama getting involved with the guy at all - that was his mistake. If I am understanding the story, the "dirt" is Obama has a sleazy neighbor who he bought some property from. Seems like untiol there is more confirmed, not much of a story.

For Dems only.
I do not believe Bush has been nearly as bad as many here. I also think President receive too much credit and blame for what happens during their Presidency. The fans want to take all the credit and point to their predecessor to blame any problems. And their opponents want to give them all the blame and none of the successes.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jan 28, 2008 -> 12:00 PM) I think it is more like the more they see of the other candidates, the more they realize that McCain isn't that bad... Perhaps. I'd like to think more of the next POTUS
