  1. There is never a reason to actually feel good about this organization that stands up to scrutiny.
  2. And don't forget Leury Garcia. He was nothing until he became a Sox.
  3. I would have liked a Ron Washington hire.
  4. I stand corrected. One team in ten years interviewed a guy with a damn good winning record and a WS title.
  5. I'm certain there are many writers and talk show hosts who share your opinion. There would an endless source of quotes.
  6. Ozzie was a pioneer ahead of his time. He quietly quit decades before it was a thing. He screwed over the team when he got a better offer. There is a reason no one has even sniffed at bringing him back.
  7. They will keep hovering around .500 into August.
  8. I know @fathomhas a thick skin and doesn't need anyone jumping in, but please let's not attack each other. The crap on the field today is nauseating enough. Let's not make it worse.
  9. I rarely disagree with you but I think the Veeck comparison is a stretch. The game isn't close to what it was when you could "rent a player". Could Bill have adapted and kept the world's biggest bar happy? Possibly, but it's too much conjecture for me. A shower in the bleachers isn't going to cut it with today's fans. I think the days of selling the sizzle are gone.
  10. For now it's JR, Hahn, Williams, birthplace, history, luck. We'll have a player or two to blame by May 1st.
  11. Thankfully we kept Katz. lol
  12. I was looking at a Winner's Dinner photo and man, some of my favorite players are looking really old.
  13. I wouldn't mind seeing all the LIV guys on a charter home Friday night. Which is kind of nice. It seems as if all the usual "villains" on tour defected.
  14. With L & L gone I thought it would take a while for an on field scapegoat to arrive. It may not take that long. Or maybe we'll have too many to chose from. New season - same old s%*#.

I made the switch partially by accepting a sabbatical, then a payout from the company being sold, savings, and downsizing. It also destroyed what was left of my first marriage. The country club, vacations, and other perks of high income did a nice job of hiding irreconcilable relationship problems. One ironic moment during my final year as a VP of Sales. I was reviewing the final list of candidates for a position. I couldn't understand why someone I recommended didn't make the final cut. As I read the new company's requirements I realized he (nor I) were qualified to accept the position. It got me back to college to finish my degree . . . which led to a not business degree . . . which led to realizing "life long learner" described me better than most adjectives. In my twenties and thirties I was competitive, cashed some big commission checks, earned several promotions, saw double digit increases in salary year to year, had lots of responsibility and authority, and the stress and feeling of accomplishment that came with it. None of that really comes with teaching. I would not have lasted of I started teaching in my twenties. Knowing that I can expect a small, not keeping up with inflation, raise each year, would have frustrated me. No matter how my teams do, how well my students do, I will receive the same raise as everyone else.
  16. ^x2 What @Tony said. Getting tossed in that moment is selfish. Late inning, you're not going to bat again, fire up the team, ejection I can see.

I'm really happy I had an almost 25 year career before going into teaching. I would not have done well in my twenty and thirties.
  18. And 30 starts is all I want out of the last guy on the roster. Fifty max with an occasional injury to a starter.
  19. The most often posted comment for fifteen years in a row.
  20. I need him to make me forget about right field being a giant gaping hole of suck. I don't want to worry about every damn routine fly ball. I want to actually think there is a chance at home on singles with a runner on second. I don't want to be thinking about whose playing right while he's on the 60 day.
  21. I think as I gain more experience as a coach I'm better at realizing even those kids who shoot around par are really still inexperienced and fourteen or fifteen years old. Same thing today with the boys. They get to the first tee, see a crowd, announcers calling their name, school, college commitment (if applicable), backdrop with all the school banners flying, and finally realize it's not just another tournament. Older kids have set a goal of reaching the state finals and are dialed in. Seniors who don't want their high school careers to end.
  22. Let's hope Hahn knows utility talent.
  23. His replacement won't be much better. Not much will change with movement on literally the last roster spot. This team isn't good enough for that to matter. He should have been a legend in Chicago. Low talent working class guy willing to do anything for the team. Always hustling, always giving 100%.
