  1. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 11:05 AM) But what about when he cheers when the going is good, only to turn around a week later and tell you "the choke is on you' when the team has a bad stretch? I have seen Mariotti say for the last month that the Sox were a lock for the playoffs, both in print and on PTI and ATH. Now he changes his tune. Windsock. I don't think cheers or boos are the correct way to view a journalists columns. Positive and negative are better terms. And they should reflect what has happened in the field. The team has positive and negative stretches. Currenty, things are not looking like they did when we we enjoyed a 13 game lead on the division, Garland was lights out, and everyone was healthy.
  2. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 10:55 AM) You are under the mistaken impression that I own that house You're next in line after the bank, like the rest of us I'll bet you can't wait until 2035 when you really own that sucker . . .
  3. my boss called, wished me a happy birthday, and told me I was fired. Only me. So I guess the party starts sooner.

    $30 got me..

    QUOTE(Steff @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 10:46 AM) You are kidding me.... :headshake Fully tanked up, I have over $300 of fuel in my truck and power wash fuel tanks. The 64 gallons of diesel and unleaded on my rig are in very easy to siphon from tanks. It wouldn't take much for someone to pull up next to me, drop a tube into a tank and fill up. In fact, I did that for a stranded motorist who ran out of gas about 50 miles from the end of the world.
  5. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 10:35 AM) That just epitomizes Mariotti as a Bandwagon Jumper, pure and simple. I don't think it is responsible for journalists to ever be on the bandwagon to begin with. If you want bandwagon journalism listen to hawk and read whatever excellent stuff Brooks is sending out today. Objectivity should be their code, not cheering from the press box. In fact, that is considered very bush league to be cheering.

    QUOTE(YASNY @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 10:41 AM) Interesting. Because of what I've seen in NOLA, I've decided to arm myself. I will have firearms in my home shortly. And yes, I have been taught how to use and handle them. Mine are bigger and I have more ammo so let's form a militia and protect each other . . .
  7. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 09:20 AM) Depends on when you bring the food and beer over? THe only thing more broke than a college student is a new homeowner about to have have a baby you ain't having a baby, she is. That point will become abundantly clear during labor.

    BTW, I was just talking with a manager at Advanced Auto and they are sold out of most styles of locking gas caps. I thought all newer vehicles at anti-siphon filler tubes?

    Hurricane Katrina

    QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 10:05 AM) Saw that too. What's interesting to me is, of all the things that could have been salvaged, someone thought a gun was a neccesity. The beauty of it is, they will point to all the shooting around them as justification why they needed their gun.
  10. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 09:43 AM) So can it detect the fat guys in Spedo's? If that's what turns you on . . . I guess an expecting wife does strange things to a person
  11. I don't see how anyone here culd criticize Mariotti for changing his opinion on how the team will do in the playoffs based on how they are playing at the moment. Everyone does that here and we aren't two faced, trying to cover our butts.
  12. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 09:00 AM) Can I borrow your weedwhacker? carefull, that weedwacker is loaded Conratulations on being owned by a house. You'll understand soon enough Now get to work
  13. Thank you all. In a side note, I am registered at way too many boards. The autobots all sent me a nice birthday wish.

  15. QUOTE(The Critic @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 07:07 AM) He's not incorrect, but this article just falls in line with what Mariotti does. He just writes enough articles on both sides of a topic so that he appear to be "right" no matter what happens. As a columnist, he's supposed to write about what's going on, but the annoying thing about him is that he over-reacts with a tinge of anger in his tone, as if he cares what happens to any Chicago team. He clearly doesn't care, except I will suggest that he might enjoy when teams lose because he gets to trot out his own stupid nicknames and smarmy attitude. Hard to treat a winning team that way. I will contend he shouldn't care. If you want commentary from people who care, just say here and read all the caring you want. If he was writing for a Minnesota or Cleveland paper, there would not be the venomous opinions against him. I am willing to bet we could find more than a few respected posters here who have said everything in his column. Still, as a Mariotti fan, I believe this is one of his worse columns. Not from what he said but how he said it. His dislike for the organization and the key people who represent the organization, are not veiled like he usually tries. I think he mailed this one in. Disappointing because the Jay I know and like reading should have been writing and rewriting this column since the All-Star break, waiting for the right moment to publish it. Instead it looks like he wrote it last night.

    QUOTE(winodj @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 07:26 AM) By the way, don't know about where you're at - but top off today. Apparently gas stations here are expecting another 50 cent increase overnight. Well aren't you a ray of sunshine
  17. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 11:57 AM) why are there two #45's? You get one slogan for every 135 pounds
  18. They still have to play the games. It's hard for me to not be a Spurs fan living a couple hundred miles south of them. I also appreciate that they have won with some pretty solid citizens, not easy in the NBA.
  19. The choke could be on LINK We better check and see if personal attacks include Mr. Jay Mariotti
