I really dislike it when someone with an obvious extreme political agenda actually has some decent ammunition to fire. He does do a nice job of listing what happened. It just doesn't seem fair to blame Bush this much for the problem. But much like Bilandic had his snow storm, Bush has this. I now have a better understanding of those 3rd world relief efforts and how a small number of citizens make things worse for the majority.

On a small scale, how you survive a disaster or life threatening situation, is your attitude. I believe that is magnified on this scale. A very big part of what President Bush can do today is ease fears. He can assure the victims that are fearing physical violence that he is taking action and that criminals will be dealt with. He can boost the moral of the workers and volunteers that are working around the clock in filth and death. He can look the directors and the government people in the eye and say, Do it! In this case he is a cheerleader and damn important one. People who are not fearful, who are confident, or at the minimum hopeful, will make it through a lot better than the others.

It did turn law abiding persons into petty thieves if you believe taking water and food off store shelves to survive is stealing.

The looters get on the 5:00 news, but there are far more angels than devils.

There are literally tens of thousands of situations like "what if the NO levee is breeched or gets a direct hit." and we do not have the resources to address them all. There are "overall" responses that are drilled and practiced. Like a hurricane hit, but not specific to anyone town or region. And while we are seeing images of a few looters and criminals, there are literally hundreds of volunteers for each idiot. There are thousands of people helping each other not hurting each other. The human spirit always comes through. As I have combed through some news stories and blogs you read about people sharing, offering aid, protecting each other.
