  1. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 01:08 PM) He's a bandwagon jumper. No way around it. He slurps Chicago teams when they're winning, and when things aren't going so well, he writes an article similar to today's. I don't get the whole bandwagon thing. He isn't a fan, he's a columnist. Are y'all saying he should always rah rah the team, through thick and thin? Or should he always find fault? If he reports accurately, there will be positive and negative articles. And look at the team since the can't choke was written. Thomas out for the season, Crede injured, Hermanson nursing a sore back, Pods on the DH. Only an idiot would say that none of that would change an opinion. I am always amazed that y'all think columnists should slurp the hometown BS. Mariotti has been a lot more generous than most of the out of town press. Y'all would be fitted for strait jackets if you had to read what the rest of the world thinks of the teams chances.
  2. f*** Yeah! September first and leading the division by 7 games!! I'd have taken that in a heartbeat at the start of the season. Second best record in baseball. Too many quality starting pitchers, Rookies coming in a producing, (Tad, Jenks, BMAC), Garland with a breakout season.

QUOTE(Steff @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 04:57 PM) Yep. The $$ used to fill the tank on AF1 would probably make many PB&J sandwiches. The people that will be ferrying him around, the officials that will be trying to meet him, the volunteers angling for a photo, the press working and clogging the streets. :headshake

QUOTE(Steff @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 04:45 PM) He's touring tomorrow. Stupid. Like he can't watch on Fox like the rest of the world and know what the hell is going in. It diverts resources that could be better used to help someone.

We have the resources and people to work in these situations, we need them to step up and do their jobs. I don't believe Bush has made an error in this at all, including cutting his August vacation short. I also am glad he didn't tour the area, which IMHO is always a bulls*** pr stunt.
  7. Ain't that a shame, did they look for him on Blueberry Hill?

What I'm going to miss the most are the trips to Dallas to visit Kap errr, I mean training. Damn nice company to work for.

QUOTE(Steff @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 04:20 PM) Without any sort of order in place on the ground I think that would cause more harm than good. Think of the looting that would occur

QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 02:49 PM) Well, this is from the guy who always seems to show up a day or two late for national tragedies. But the attendance records prove he was there, BTW has Clinton showed to "feel their pain?

Actually with the very high price of health insurance, and in my case the difficulties in acquiring a personal policy (high risk pool), I was working for a company out of Dallas as well as working my business. Pressure washing is primarily an evening and weekend deal, when business are closed or at least slow (Walmart at 2:00am is amazing). IMHO, they somehow caught wind of my after hours (my words) activities, set me up, and adios. I knew something as up for the past few weeks. Changes in attitudes, changes in latitudes. Thankfully, I can laugh or I would go insane*. Now I can get back to reclaiming my spot as the #3 post count champ at Soxtalk. *used by permission.
  13. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 11:05 AM) But what about when he cheers when the going is good, only to turn around a week later and tell you "the choke is on you' when the team has a bad stretch? I have seen Mariotti say for the last month that the Sox were a lock for the playoffs, both in print and on PTI and ATH. Now he changes his tune. Windsock. I don't think cheers or boos are the correct way to view a journalists columns. Positive and negative are better terms. And they should reflect what has happened in the field. The team has positive and negative stretches. Currenty, things are not looking like they did when we we enjoyed a 13 game lead on the division, Garland was lights out, and everyone was healthy.
  14. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 10:55 AM) You are under the mistaken impression that I own that house You're next in line after the bank, like the rest of us I'll bet you can't wait until 2035 when you really own that sucker . . .

my boss called, wished me a happy birthday, and told me I was fired. Only me. So I guess the party starts sooner.

QUOTE(Steff @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 10:46 AM) You are kidding me.... :headshake Fully tanked up, I have over $300 of fuel in my truck and power wash fuel tanks. The 64 gallons of diesel and unleaded on my rig are in very easy to siphon from tanks. It wouldn't take much for someone to pull up next to me, drop a tube into a tank and fill up. In fact, I did that for a stranded motorist who ran out of gas about 50 miles from the end of the world.
  17. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 10:35 AM) That just epitomizes Mariotti as a Bandwagon Jumper, pure and simple. I don't think it is responsible for journalists to ever be on the bandwagon to begin with. If you want bandwagon journalism listen to hawk and read whatever excellent stuff Brooks is sending out today. Objectivity should be their code, not cheering from the press box. In fact, that is considered very bush league to be cheering.

QUOTE(YASNY @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 10:41 AM) Interesting. Because of what I've seen in NOLA, I've decided to arm myself. I will have firearms in my home shortly. And yes, I have been taught how to use and handle them. Mine are bigger and I have more ammo so let's form a militia and protect each other . . .
  19. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 09:20 AM) Depends on when you bring the food and beer over? THe only thing more broke than a college student is a new homeowner about to have have a baby you ain't having a baby, she is. That point will become abundantly clear during labor.

BTW, I was just talking with a manager at Advanced Auto and they are sold out of most styles of locking gas caps. I thought all newer vehicles at anti-siphon filler tubes?

QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 10:05 AM) Saw that too. What's interesting to me is, of all the things that could have been salvaged, someone thought a gun was a neccesity. The beauty of it is, they will point to all the shooting around them as justification why they needed their gun.
  22. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 09:43 AM) So can it detect the fat guys in Spedo's? If that's what turns you on . . . I guess an expecting wife does strange things to a person
  23. I don't see how anyone here culd criticize Mariotti for changing his opinion on how the team will do in the playoffs based on how they are playing at the moment. Everyone does that here and we aren't two faced, trying to cover our butts.
  24. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 09:00 AM) Can I borrow your weedwhacker? carefull, that weedwacker is loaded Conratulations on being owned by a house. You'll understand soon enough Now get to work
