  1. Don't most teams send in their best reliever to close? You don't have to factor in anything else other than "here's our best pitcher in this situation. He even has a special title 'closer'"
  2. I would like to see them try it at High A for a season. And like hockey line changes, home team makes the final change of pitcher or hitter.
  3. Except the defense isn't random. Teams can choose who pitches to which batters. Why not allow the offense that same advantage? It's another DH and almost another pitch hitter.
  4. You don't like seeing a team's best hitter facing their best closer in a high leverage situation? Or are you worried once it becomes common it will lose the magic? To me watching some bottom of the order guy in that situation is just slightly better than watching a pitcher hit. Imagine if the defense has to set a rotation of pitchers before the game and couldn't deviate, that's what the offense has to do. It's closer to my goal of offense and defense lineups like football.
  5. When the DH was first proposed it was about that popular. Now we take it for granted. How about making it the offensive closer? It's the last at bat. Walk off or go home.
  6. Along these lines they could try 9th inning always starts at the top of the order. 9th inning Two defensive substitutions that will not bat.
  7. https://www.mlb.com/cut4/10-bizarre-rules-from-baseballs-past/c-124363454 Let's get back to real baseball. 😆 Underhanded pitching, batters could request a high or low pitch, return to first team to score 21 runs wins no matter how many or how few innings are played, only day games. Toss in some double-headers.
  8. Unless they look at all the failed WS draft picks who were rushed to the MLB squad.
  9. I say give it a try. I know some people want the game to stay the same forever, but I enjoy the changes. It's the DH on steroids. The same DH that was going to destroy baseball according to the NL fans. Actually, I would love to see baseball adopt an offensive and defensive lineup like football. There isn't any reason that players should be required to play both sides of the ball like basketball or hockey. Play stops. To really make that work rosters should be expanded and that will never happen.
  10. I liked them better before they won a title and were just the Yankee's bitches.
  11. I think Balta's point is we will blame age over Katz. We blame every hitting coach before blaming the player, age, etc. With Katz it's the opposite.
  12. I think Coop actually earned that for a while. I'm not certain what Katz has done besides being younger than anyone else Tony brought in.
  13. The Sox payroll has been in top 10 and bottom 10 probably more than almost every team. They average in the upper half. https://www.stevetheump.com/Payrolls.htm Easy to follow charts.
  14. Katz was part of the friends and family hiring spree. I don't think we would do much better than him. At least he seems like he's from this century.
  15. True. But for some teams it's so minor that no one notices. For other teams is interesting but not impactful. Then there are a couple teams like the Sox where it's a major signing worth lots of discussions.
  16. I wonder if it's all the entertainment choices that are available or something else but I'm just not willing to pay current ticket prices for national live events anymore. I'd rather support local entertainment.
  17. I don't mind the extended playoffs but if I'm going to watch professionals play, I'll watch on Sunday. I would have preferred the people making the most money from college athletics, the colleges, to pay stipends. I think the transfer portal has problems and needs to be tweaked. But I did get caught up in the UT - Aggie hype and watched. I'm surrounded by a lot of UT grads and former employees among my in-laws and my daughter's in-laws so it was a good night.
  18. It's December. About time for some major deals before the holidays. It will be nice to have some actual transactions to discuss.
  19. He didn't form a charity to buy the team. He didn't add it to a collection. He has bought and (leased back) or sold property to build his personal fortune. He put together a group of investors to buy the team as an investment.
  20. No one went broke paying taxes on profits. Of course he could sell for $600mil and save a ton in taxes
  21. There are a couple places with better than average Chicago style food. The best one sadly is Wrigleville and has a ton of Cub s%*# on the walls. Whenever I'm in the neighborhood it's a must stop.
  22. There isn't a definition or stat that we all will agree with. I think we could also use 2023 as the date of the rebuild. 2020 and 2021 were historic in that it was the first back to back playoff appearances in team history. 2022 was a team that Vegas felt was a top 7 team to win the World Series. By White Sox standards that's about as good as it gets.
