  1. They seem to have few choices. Which is bad for a great organization but perfect for these guys. Less of a chance to fail spectacularly. Fields can be saved and I believe a pro bowl level player -- for another team.

    The 2024 Blizzard

Well my wife and I decided to take our RV out since we had reservations at a state park. We've had it in freezing temps before without problem. Of course this time a water line possible froze. There is a slim chance we are just out of water. Yesterday we met a couple that was getting south as far as they could. They are full-time RVers and chase 70° all year.

I was a very hands off, I'll let you know if there is something wrong, manager. Most of the branch managers I worked with appreciated that. One in particular was extremely unhappy that I didn't provide enough feedback and "support". They wanted constant feedback. I was a very bad manager for them. They interpreted the lack of attention as I didn't like them. It wasn't until they confided in a manager they thought I liked that we had an opportunity to resolve the issue. I couldn't be the micro manager they were accustomed to, but I could meet them part way. It took communication and trust for that to happen.

I always believed the first and last weeks were the most important. I actually returned to a company I left. Never burn bridges, it just isn't worth it. I left one company and the owner asked me to stay a month to ease the transition. The company I was going to agreed. What I remember the most was the new company stating my sense of responsibility and personalism is exactly what why they were hiring me. But I would prioritize researching at home your next move. Getting the new job while having a job is easier. Does the person giving you a hard time have a financial gain if you don't make it until your bonus?

Any vacation time you can take? Even if it's a staycation, you can avoid being in the office. Do you have another job lined up?

Dissociate quickly each day. Focus on what is making you happy each day. Even when you have a job you love there are periods when it isn't great. For me September is hell then it gets really great then February and March get tough again. Once I realized that, I could cope with the bad stretches. Good luck.
  7. Thank you. I have a MA in reading s%*# and totally misread the post. Lol I took it to mean a mid season trade for less than the blockbuster were hoping for.
  8. The real King of getting jumped on enters room. And don't tell have vapes up north? Smoking? That's like from the I don't care about stats I just want to see the guy era.
  9. Are you predicting light return based on your projection of how he'll look, or the front office not get fair market value, or a combination of both?
  10. It's a strange relationship between a team and it's fans. What other business do we really care about the ownership? If this team was a restaurant we all would be eating somewhere else. Yet here we are. Lol we really are crazy
  11. Damn great post. I totally respect that JR owns the sandbox. His customers are questioning his ability to maintain a sandbox we are willing to pay for.
  12. I don't think you should be prompted within that same shitty organization. How do you change a shitty organization? I don't think it's by promoting from within. Who did he learn from? What examples does he have to draw on? Successful organizations can promote from within, shitty (your description) need outside help. His career path should have been a lateral move to a better organization. Just my opinion.
  13. We won't know. But how inspirational is it that we hired a guy who was working in a pretty dysfunctional organization? It certainly would be easier to be positive if we hired someone who was from a functional organization.
  14. I fully agree. The difference is I'm skeptical right now. We both want Getz to surround himself with good people who will help him. I'm thinking he was that guy that was supposed to help. Here's the other paradox. If we accept he isn't responsible because he didn't do anything. Then we hired a guy who didn't do anything in his previous position. Hardly inspirational. Or, he did do something and that frankly wasn't very good.
  15. ----------------+-------+---+-------------+----------+---------- I'll agree there are some positive in the last two years. I'll even agree for our long term mental health we should probably acknowledge them. But it's impossible to ignore what a huge disappointment the past two seasons have been. Whether by team choice (possibly) or career preservation (more likely in my mind) rising stars in good organizations aren't filling these open positions. Yes, we're getting what we asked in people leaving but we also wanted above average replacements. We're asked as a fan base to believe these new folks are capable of delivering a winning product. Like most everyone here I'm skeptical they have the skills to do that while also really hoping to be proven wrong. Words just aren't enough anymore to get me excited and positive, the team has to show me. That won't happen for months.
  16. Probably only @caulfield12will really notice but cool teacher day. When I teach Shakespeare we always discuss how you will find plots to his plays in every movie. I talk about watching Hotel Transylvania when reading Romeo and Juliet. Today was an easy day before the holiday weekend and we read Sonnet 3 by Shakespeare. Which by the way is not one of his greatest hits. The plan is I then play Dream On by Aerosmith, we chat a while about the similarities, and then I play classic rock for the rest of class. As I was starting a mix one kid requested Tom Sawyer. I'm thinking great idea. Cranked it to 11, jammed a bit, but before I could move on to Baba O'Reilly the kid starts a discussion about the lyrics. Coolest ten minutes listening to him. By the time he finished everyone wanted to hear it again and were pulling up lyrics on their phones.

    The 2024 Blizzard

Years ago ss2k5 banned me from posting my current conditions on winter weather threads. It will be very cold here next week. Hard freeze for several hours. Preparation is much different. I have lots of landscaping that needs covering, faucets protected from freeze, containers flipped over, etc. Hopefully the roads are dry and clear for y'all before you have to go back to work.
  18. I added a calendar note to check eBay for the Hawaiian shirt. Lol. It's been a long winter and they are sucking me back in.
  19. 7/13 get your tickets, get your vest
  20. Damnit. I will just miss being in town for Hawaiian shirt night.
  21. I kind of miss the days when I wouldn't have noticed it cared. Sometime around spring training I'd look at who was in camp. New marketing slogan, free for the team to use Ignorance is bliss.
  22. I really like him so I hope they trade him to a contender.
  23. OK. They were usually 25th in spending from what I saw.
  24. I'm looking at their resume's. We don't know what they could have done if that spending was a few years ago.
