  1. Great news, but use the All-Star Thread please. Merged.
  2. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Jul 3, 2005 -> 01:16 PM) For once, I really wish we WOULD stay out of everyone's business, including that great country to the north of the United States, and see how long you people last on your own. About as long as we would. Without international markets, our economy collapses. How many Americans have jobs because we import so much? How many Americans have jobs because we export so much s***? We cannot even feed ourselves or run our machines without imports. I for one sleep better knowing we have friendly neighbors on both sides.

    PINK FLOYD

QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jul 3, 2005 -> 01:20 AM) Tell me something, if Floyd is so great, why does everyone only want to hear them play their 2 or 3 'super hits' ? The most extremely over rated band ever, IMHO of course. Casual fan, versus involved fan. Concept albums are harder for some people growing up on MP3 downloads to get into.
  4. Nice to see him happy. He was one of Kenny's best moves, both coming and going.

QUOTE(FoxySoxGirl @ Jul 2, 2005 -> 09:08 PM) How much are Dave Matthews tickets going for? This will be the first time in 4 years I haven't been to a DMB show. Have any so far been good? Welcome to Soxtalk and SL&P Check out the game chat
  6. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Jul 2, 2005 -> 08:59 PM) Isin't what they have done? No they didn't allow them any access.
  7. I got the last copy at my Barnes and Noble. So far a very good read. Thanks lcr!
  8. I was listening to Dr. Dean Edell's radio show and he was talking about the asshole. I have never really thought about what an amazing bit or engineering it is to get that opening so completely closed. The delicate inner working of the vascular system just amazes me. So here's to the asshole!
  9. Here is what I wish the minutemen would have done Hi. This is America at it's best. We know we have a problem here. We want everyone to know about the problem. Our government isn't taking care of it like *we* want them to. So we are protesting *against* our government until they listen and get it right. We might not get 100% of what we are asking for but I will damn well guarantee this area will be a hell of a lot better today, tomorrow, and in the future. Because that is how America kicks everyone's ass. We don't run from our problems, we don't hide them. If he wants to add a little Rebel yell, it might be a nice touch

  11. QUOTE(knightni @ Jul 2, 2005 -> 04:22 PM) Al Jazeera does nothing but promote anti-American viewpoints. Why should America co-operate with them? It seems as if you are saying that freedom of the press only works if the press supports the government? What difference does it make if the anti-American sentiment comes from within, or from outside? There are plenty of anti-government groups inspired by Waco, Ruby Ridge, etc. and they all have access to the media. We are stronger than this group. Our systems have proven to be solid and unbeatable. When we show the world that, then they will be clamoring for American style democracy. When we say it only works in this way or that, it just isn't as strong a message. Remember, every dictator's first goal are the television and radio stations. They want to control the media. We the people control the media and should fight to keep it as open as possible. Even when we disagree.
  12. QUOTE(MurcieOne @ Jul 2, 2005 -> 11:09 AM) ur talkin about 1 day.... in 1 day he decided he was ready to play? I dont buy it. He skipped out on playing the Whitesox cause he was worried about not being ontop of his game. Thats the bottom line. Why didn't he play Wednesday, that's only one day less. Then if he played Wednesday, why didn't he play Tuesday? That's only one day less. Of course he wouldn't be on top of his game. He hasn't played much in the past year.
  13. QUOTE(YASNY @ Jul 2, 2005 -> 01:56 PM) Constitution? Bill of Rights? What are you talking about? I'm talking about the rights of a group of American citizens not to cooperate with the Arab "Death to America" world? Never said a damn thing about the Constitution or the BofR.
  14. QUOTE(ChiSoxyGirl @ Jul 1, 2005 -> 11:08 PM) I have two translations of Beowulf--the far superior being Seamus Haney's. Anyone that hated in high school should reread that translation. It sings, it's just amazing. And my vote would be fiction. I read non-fiction all day and could use a mind's toy. Haney's is widely regarded as the best. IMHO, if this was the second oldest work in English we would never have to read it. The story was never meant to be a book. It was meant for telling and retelling. It was an oral "history" if you will. A moral lesson. Converting it to the written page lost it's purpose. I'm in with Survivor. Great idea. Hey Juggs, will you let us know all the stats on the book? Word count, adjectives to verb ratios, etc. I kid because, I care
  15. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 2, 2005 -> 01:31 PM) Don't get me started on Kevin Walker. He doesn't deserve to be in the majors. In fact, I dont' think he'd be on any other major league team if the Sox were to cut him. I'm absolutely appalled that Ozzie has went with the familiarity instead of going with the better players (Baj/Jenks). I realize he wants to have a 2nd lefty, but if that lefty is crap, than you should go with another righty, plus Cotts can be used on a more heavy basis and there are plenty of teams that can go through stretches with just one lefty reliever. Hell, for a few years the Angels didn't have any. I was disappointed also. He may be on his second to last chance here. At least it is early in the season.
  16. QUOTE(YASNY @ Jul 2, 2005 -> 01:32 PM) This isn't our government we are talking about. This a group of American citizens, who, if they don't want to pander to the Arabs, they have that right. Sorry, but I'm not as liberal in my thinking as some around here are. If these guys want to give AJ a proverbial "up yours" then so be it. And of course they have the right to do that. Interesting that loving the Constitution and the Bill of Rights is now being liberal, I like that Last night Nuke even admitted that the US government could run a world class health system.
  17. QUOTE(YASNY @ Jul 2, 2005 -> 01:22 PM) So, we should throw more of it out there? Give it to them in their language on their network? They take our broadcasts and dub in sound. I understand the sentiment, but I'm looking at a bigger picture and believing strongly in our system and way of life. By not allowing them, we are saying that freedom of the press is bad. That our constitution isn't working. They are filming something so common place, yet we stop them and expose how afraid we are. Once again President Bush speaks about spreading democracy around the world. Shouldn't we be a shining example of that?
  18. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 2, 2005 -> 10:10 AM) Yea Haw! This is a good idea, the other one was gigantic. NOW GET JASON SCHMIDT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BTW Excellent screen name
  19. Please use Trade Thread II pinned for your pleasure.
  20. The original thread was getting very large and people were complaining. Let's try a weekly version. Remember if any of these trades or roster moves are actually made, threads will be created, dreams realized, friendships made and broken, posting records smashed. And give me a Yea Haw for the best team in baseball.
  21. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jul 2, 2005 -> 09:14 AM) Since we agree that they will always have the fans vote and that a lot of times the most deserving players aren't always chosen, why not just re name the event. It's not really an all star game. I think calling it that it was really bothers a lot of fans. I'm not so certain LMB, think about this for a second. If they changed it to the "Best Player This Season At Every Position Game" I could see the controversy. "Star" is a Hollywood term that I believe exactly describes the game. Some of the players are there for their "star power" and some for their playing. Jeter is as much a celebrity "star" as a baseball "star". Does that make a little sense? The game to me is all about marketing hype in the middle of the summer. People are going on vacations and baseball needs their butts in seats. What better way than to trot out the "names" (re:stars) for an exhibtion game? The names you get excited to see.
  22. Good thing our enemies don't watch Fox News or listen to Rush. US news and entertainment is broadcast around the world. It is one of our leading exports. The real coup by not letting AJ film is keeping the monopoly for US broadcasting companies.

    Andy Rooney

And this gem was attributed to George Carlin, again totally false, not from him, but kind of funny in spots. It's amazing to me how these things can get started and continue for years and years. I guess the original authors of these pieces were embarassed to put their names on them. I know I would be.
