  1. I was in the middle of a rather serious meeting when the text message came across. I figured it was a game update and glanced at it to see that Pods won, I gave a WOW! and then had to explain. Thank God there was a couple baseball fans in the group. I wonder when the last future All-Star for All-Star trade happened?
  2. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 6, 2005 -> 03:58 PM) Plus that money they save on Kong can be used for other needs. The need would be for an All-Star caliber first baseman.
  3. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jul 6, 2005 -> 08:53 PM) That was awesome guys!!! Seriously I wanted you all to get your props. I will swear til the day I day that you all got Scotty Pods on the All-Star team. Don't thank me, thank yourselves Add 10,000 posts to your total for that one
  4. Just to clarify. The Supreme Court ruled that as a private organization the Boy Scouts are free to establish their own membership standards. It did not specify what those membership standards are. The Supreme Court ruling thus continued to keep legal things like the Knights of Columbus being limited to Catholic Men, Daughters of the American Revolution, can be daughters, etc. To have ruled otherwise, the NAACP would have had to allow non colored equal access, etc. This is why the BSA position was supported by so many civic groups. I'm not certain about freebees to the BSA. I cannot think of one that BSA receives that other non profit, civic groups also receive. We stay at several bases, when allowed, but always pay the rack rate and for meals when offered. We have crossed paths with YMCA groups, school groups, Girl Scouts USA, baseball teams, etc.
  5. ACLU Mission Statement Wouldn't it be more hypocritical to have board members who do not support the groups mission? I know y'all think the NAACP should not have a racist on their board to prove they are accepting of everyone, or the John Birch society should have a liberal, gay marriage activist on their board. Mexican-Americans have been harassed and detained by untrained minutemen who do not know a legal resident from a legal alien, from an illegal alien. When the Minutemen trample on the civil rights of AMERICANS, they are violating the law, no matter how well intentioned that are. Disclaimer: I agree with about 33% of the ACLU's positions, disagree with about 33%, and have no frickin clue what they are talking about in another 33%.
  6. QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Jul 5, 2005 -> 04:53 PM) Thanks for the response, it was very helpful. Thats a good question. My thoughts have been that if a "victim" loses a lawsuit for whatever reason, the opposition should get a chance to counter-sue the "victim" for whatever court charges plus a little extra for time lost etc. Then a jury would have a chance to see the evidence and make a judgement not only on the victim's charge, but on whether the victims charge was frivilous. If they see that the victims charge wasn't thrown out, but they in fact lost the case anyways, then the victim would owe nothing but the previously stated lawyer's fees. That could trim down the amount of lawsuits in the future, and yet save the real cases of neglegence or whatever the victim is suing for based on the evidence. I do realize that is trying a case twice and would likely not work. But I just don't like the current circumstances. For whatever reason America is in love with the underdog. If people would have to pay GM's legal bill, they would never sue, right or wrong. If we make it too difficult to sue, we risk valid cases not going to court and the good that comes out of that. Just like a few guilty people go free so we know no innocent are convicted and we allow speech 10X worse than we agree with so that we are assured that all valid speech is protected, we need to see a small percentage of frivolous to assure ourselves that everyone who should have a day in court does.

    Work dress code...

QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 6, 2005 -> 03:35 PM) A little rant.. For whatever reason at work here capri pants are not allowed. :rolly Yesterday someone wore them and this morning she got advised not to do so any more from her boss. She told me about it. So I take a stroll around the building when I had to pick some stuff up from the print room and I saw 22 dress code violations. This girl, good worker, rarely ever hear a peep from her (thought I don't really work with her) would not surprise me at all if she tried to take some sort of legal action. Personally I think the dress code is stupid, but if you're gonna have one you have to enforce it for everyone. I can't say I blame her if she does something. I think it's unfair for anyone to be singled out. I thought the capri battle was won two years ago and only really fat people (guys or gals) can't wear them!?
  8. QUOTE(ChiSoxyGirl @ Jul 6, 2005 -> 09:41 AM) I got the worst sunburn of my life over the weekend (and I even reapplied my sunscreen every 3 hours). I have blisters all over my shoulders and back. Ooooooouuuuuuuuuch! I am never going south of the Mason Dixon line during the summer months again! So we're not getting together this summer? That's OK, I'm not going north of the Mason-Dixon in winter.
  9. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Jul 5, 2005 -> 03:20 PM) Agreed. Hopefully the Bush Administration can get its tort reform pushed through and stop the jackpot like atmosphere that has been created in American courtrooms. This is a Russian courtroom. No matter how great you believe Bush to be, you look silly thinking his tort reform would help this. It was in the second paragraph. I guess being misinformed makes being a GOPerhead easier. Leaving for a day or two while Nuke goes nuclear.
  10. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Jul 5, 2005 -> 02:18 PM) Something has to be done to do away with frivolus lawsuits like this. Yeah this is going to get dismissed post-haste but still it costs money for companies and various governments to defend against them. Stuff has been done in the US. Attorney's have been fined and can be disbarred for bringing suits without merit. Plantiffs have been found liable for defendants attorney fees. Notice this is out of Russia. The down side is people who might otherwise have had their day in court, cannot. Some of these might have been valid.
  11. Isn't spreading democracy a beautiful thing? The Russians seem to have grasped the Old American Work Ethic.
  12. BTW, I went from thinking Clemens was an ass to being a huge Clemens fan. I was at his start against the Blue Jays a few weeks back and he looks better than most 30 year old pitchers. Gave up 1 ER in 7 innings in a ND. I would love to see him in a Sox uniform. But, it ain't going to happen. This seems to be a smoke screen while Kenny works a real deal. Flying under the radar. And why isn't this in Trade Thread II?
  13. Waste of time thinking about it. Let's remember what he's earning this year. Clemens Signs With Astros for One Year, $18M http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/artic...-2005Jan21.html Do you think the Astros are going to eat salary and send him north?
  14. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Jul 4, 2005 -> 06:08 PM) Just as soon as your side believes that it was Kofi Annan's corruption and hypocrasy and that of his predecessor that allowed Hussein to be propped up for so long in the first place. I'm on the "side" of American, what side are you one?
  15. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Jul 4, 2005 -> 05:49 PM) Yeah, and its really sad that the U.N. is so toothless that it can't, or won't, enforce its own regulations. Told Iraq no WMD We didn't believe the UN inspectors 1,800 dead Americans later, do we believe?
  16. Our entire pitching staff, after the 6th inning, with Ozzie doing the thinkin' He has the ability to make all of them look like s***.
  17. QUOTE(Tadahito Iguchi @ Jul 4, 2005 -> 01:04 PM) Is it difficult to make a new forum just for trades? Like there would be Pale Hose Talk and than there would be the rumor mill. And please don't tell me to leave the site if i dont like it it's just hard to read the 20 Page threads....... Thanks ..................P.S- Im not sure if this issue has been brought up yet. We'll have threads on every actual trade. Starting a forum so someone can fantasize about Crede for A-Rod and a player to be named later, just has not made sense. We are looking at every which way to handle these. Having half the front page of PHT being made up trade rumours wasn't working. A 20 page thread wasn't working. Now we are trying a weekly thread. You may be right and we may be heading to a temporary sub forum.
  18. QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ Jul 4, 2005 -> 10:48 AM) In the top of the ninth, a group of A's fans dressed as an astronaut, a tooth fairy, Santa Claus, a mermaid and a dinosaur held up a sign that read "We don't believe in Carl Everett." That is absolutely hilarious... You beat me to it. That has me LMAO Great A's fans. And being in California it wasn't a problem finding people with those costumes in the closet.
  19. QUOTE(whitesoxin' @ Jul 4, 2005 -> 11:46 AM) I can't believe I'm watching people eat hot dogs. IMHO, Sport Illustrated should have the Womens Swimsuit Hot Dog Eating Contest
  20. It's a local band Hairbangers Ball. My cousin Jeff is a founding member and guitar player. Upper right hand corner in photo. The band started onlt about 3 or 4 years ago. Some of you may remember him from Core Music, another local band. http://hairbangersball.com/Index2.asp?Flash=Yes

  22. QUOTE(Jake @ Jul 4, 2005 -> 01:31 AM) And probably avoiding political/controversial topics would be good. Too late. Enjoy Survivor, I wish PA was around to join the discussion.
  23. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 3, 2005 -> 10:02 PM) And what the f*** did I tell you about Pudge huh? He made just as I gaurenteed. Who else would you take from Detroit? Maggs?
  24. QUOTE(Queen Prawn @ Jul 4, 2005 -> 09:47 AM) I read yesterday that Garland and Buerhle made it but hadn't noticed about Konerko until today - shocked the hell outta me. His life changed for the good when a certain fan became Queen Prawn because, IIRC, he sucked.
  25. Didn't we have to attack Iraq because they broke UN Resolutions?
