  2. Linkage Sadly the discussion just isn't going to be as lively without our old buddy.
  3. Glad the whole British empire thing is working out for y'all. We kicked 'em out a couple hundred years ago. Seemed to help us.
  4. Of course, when BBTN had Harry Reynolds put together his All-Star starting lineup there were zero White Sox players. The only pick that he made that I would have argued was not starting Buerhle or Garland. The best team in baseball should have at least one starter and I'm guessing it will be on the mound. I never have cared for Reynolds. He has a terrible voice for broadcasting. Brantley is an idiot, never liked him. That show is getting worse and worse.
  5. QUOTE(ChiSoxyGirl @ Jul 1, 2005 -> 07:23 AM) When I studied a broad in Europe, malls and coffee shops sold those huge monster muffins--and called them American Muffins (as opposed to the regular sized muffins). commas, are a good thing
  6. QUOTE(YASNY @ Jul 1, 2005 -> 05:22 AM) Damn, that was fun! Come on YAS, Charlie Daniels?? He's the Barbara Streisand of the GOPerheads.
  7. QUOTE(qwerty @ Jun 26, 2005 -> 11:02 PM) Has one year of arbitation left. I expect him to be signed long term after this season. Long term, in Sox terminology, is three years for a pitcher.
  8. That's how they will take over the world
  9. QUOTE(ChiSoxyGirl @ Jun 30, 2005 -> 09:23 PM) 2.) We went on a day trip to a bog somewhere in Northern IL. Horrible, there were snakes and it smelled bad. We had lunch at a resturaunt that was made out of a decommissioned train. That also was really sketch I'm assuming that was Volo Bog.
  10. http://www.nytimes.com/2005/07/01/national...agewanted=print We need to cut everyone's taxes to zero and then watch the economy grow like crazy. The government wouldn't know what to do with all the money.
  11. I heard on ESPN radio today the Sox called the best team in baseball. No big deal really. Saying the same thing over and over again would be repetitious.
  12. Interesting that his career was basically over, he finds this to get a little camera time, and all of a sudden his career is relevant again.
  13. QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jun 30, 2005 -> 04:23 PM) Freddy is making his case to be an All-Star... 8-3 with a 3.29 ERA Another good outing before the break and he's in. Possibly he deserves it, but I don't see three starters from the Sox on the team.
  14. Great to see the big man playing a little in Dallas. Today he lined an RBI double and made a big play at the plate. Sandy was one of my favorite Sox players the past couple seasons and it was good to see him playing a little.
  15. Y'all are way too young. Us old guys will remember this Kenny Rogers classic and soooo fitting.
  16. QUOTE(Middle Buffalo @ Jun 30, 2005 -> 12:19 PM) Great story. I hope one of them was wearing my old gym shirt. IMHO people are basically good and big hearted.
  17. I don't think HoF and retired numbers go hand in hand. Seaver toiled on the south side for a couple seasons, but wasn't a "White Sox". A retired number should be more than just playing well, it should reflect someone who is clearly a Sox guy. In that respect, if Fisk had spent less time in Chicago, I could see not retiring his number. To this day, most baseball fans think of him as a Red Sox. Frank, should have his number retired immediately after playing his last game. Let's not have a repeat of Baines where his number was retired before he finished playing and even came back for a cup of coffee with the Sox.
  18. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Jun 30, 2005 -> 03:01 PM) You're still measuring sales, dollars, and the like. There has to be a way to show other improvements, other QUANTIFIABLE improvements, to effective leadership. Edit: Wait, that was my question, wasn't it? I've slept since then, only a little though. PROFITS... PROFIT MEASUREMENT is what I'm after - directly attributable to leadership style. Each department will be judged by a different standard. Not every department is or should be judged by profit. There are some departments that will never show a profit. The other yardsticks that start to come into play would be turn over, absenteeism, etc. It is difficult to measure employee satisfaction.
  19. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Jun 30, 2005 -> 12:19 PM) The problem is, and will be, until someone comes up with a different measurement system, you don't have a tangible effect on your company's results by different leadership styles. Leadership styles DO have an impact, but the measureables are not in place to say HOW MUCH of an impact. /need to become an Organizational Behavior geek to invent kapkomet's measurables of leadership styles A sales department can measure sales volume or profit. A manufacturing can measure output, scrap, etc. The measurements are there, you just need a before and after and the knowledge to sort through other factors.

    Gosh darn it...

A known commodity that is working is far better than the unknown. I'd give her the little extra and say establish the ground rules so this doesn't happen again. I had a similar situation with my housekeeper, who interestingly enough also was making $10 per day. Plus room and board.
  21. QUOTE(farmteam @ Jun 27, 2005 -> 02:38 PM) I just realized something--I have never gone a day at Soxtalk without seeing a post from SS2k5. Never on vacation, I swear! Anyways, this made me realize something; a day at Soxtalk without SS2k5 is like an ice cream cone without the ice cream. And no, I'm not comparing him to a giant sticky ball of heart attack-at-39. Now back to your regularly scheduled programming. I just went cold turkey for three days (well almost, I did talk to Kap on the phone). Sunday night ---> Loss to Cubs. Figured I was missing the suicide watch. No big deal. Monday ---> Off day. No big deal, thinking about SL&P Tuesday ---> What a game. Cannot post or lurk Wednesday ---> getting off plane.
