  1. My laptop suddenly went into a cycle where it will just continuously reboot. I tried all flavors of safe mode, normal, and to last known configuration and it keeps cycling around. It has Win XP home. I checked for stuck input devices including the keyboard. The only way to stop it is to pull the power. My anti-virus is up to date and I assume had been running.
  2. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jun 25, 2005 -> 02:09 AM) Because of the way the question was phrased...who is the "Best" offensive player, the only answer that is possible right now is Paul Konerko. Right now, Konerko is 15th in the big leagues with 52 RBI's. No one else on the Sox is even in the top 30. Konerko also leads the team in runs scored, with 44...Pods is a close 2nd at 42, but the same guy is leading in runs scored and RBI's. Now, on top of that, this is not even the first year for Paulie to lead the team in the 2 main offensive categories; he was 10th in baseball last year with 117 RBI's, and 3rd on the team with 84 runs scored (although both Podsednik and Dye scored more runs last year.) If the question was "Who is the most valuable offensive player"...that's a much different question, because it takes into account speed, timely hitting, etc, and Everett, Rowand and Pods become factors, but in terms of simply who the best offensive player is, it's hard not to say it's the guy leading the team in runs scored and driven in. Great post. I would not have thought of good old number 14 but using your definition of best, I have to agree. If I had to nominate the poster child of Smart Ball 2005, I'd go with Rowand or Pods.
  3. So there is a car stopped that (at best guess) would have been 4 inches away from the train. Others in the crew didn't think there was room and that they would have hit anyway. They would have been able to brake to a stop, but decided to go ahead because they didn't want to be late by the 7 or 8 minutes braking would have slowed them down. To save 7 minutes, a girl is now retarded for life. So it really comes down to how far away the car was from the tracks before sparky the boyfriend pushed the car further onto the tracks in a "failed rescue attempt" Clearly in the path ---> girl wins Clearly not in path ---> RR wins Gray area for jury to decide 4" at best? I'm with the jury on this one and if the father probably in jail for killing the stupid ass boyfriend who pushed the car. Then again boy friend might not have been that stupid. There may have been cars blocking behind her plus pushing the other way would have put him in the path of the train.
  4. IMHO, this is a perfect example of the posts that make this place such a great place to talk White Sox baseball. Balta defines "best" which helps to clarify his point. He does a little research and backs is opinion. He also answers those that have taken a different approach in the meaning of "best" and concedes that if that is the definition, that the other posts are also close to being correct. No insulting others who think differently. I know I learned a little something. I also know why a few non White Sox fan boys are still promoting Paulie for the AS game.

I thought I would write a guide for the Iraqi people projecting a US life. Iraq before US involvement: Tortured its citizens Iraq After: Write laws against torture Send prisoners to 3rd countries which do not have similar laws for interrogations Hire teams of lawyers and Doctors to figure out how to get around the laws you just wrote Iraq Before: Killed its citizens Iraq After Only kill citizens after giving them an over-worked under-paid public aid attorney. This allows your star athletes and entertainers to continue to give back to society Iraq Before Detained people indefinitely without trials Iraq After Keep this one. Iraq Before Strong following of religious law Iraq After Write "In God We Trust" on all your money, then stuff the money into the "g-string" of the topless dancer who is taking advantage of her right to free speech Iraq Before Closed borders, don't let anyone in Iraq After Erect a statue welcoming everyone, but complain when the tired and poor actually show up. Try and close border. Iraq Before No elections Iraq After Hold elections but don't actually go and vote. The lines are too long, you're busy, and it doesn't really matter anyway.

  10. Mine voted for. In a side note, I really like my congressman. He has an excellent staff that goes out of their way to help and offer information. Last election he pulled in like 88% of the vote.
  11. QUOTE(JimH @ Jun 24, 2005 -> 12:43 PM) Yes, it cuts down on having a million threads. The other option is this ... which I know you guys don't want to do ... new members cannot start threads for 6 months. They can post, but not start threads. Not to sound elitist, I'm certainly not trying to do that, but every time school lets out we get totally overrun with young people who feel the need to start a thread every day. Usually they are of the caliber "We should trade Borchard for A-Rod" or "Look at me, I was on TV!!!!" ... just off the wall stuff. Seeing as this site is for learning, maybe we should let new people observe, add their comments, and see what this place is all about for a while. But I agree - the trade speculation threads clutter things up big time. The idea of one big trade thread is well worth trying. Jim, That has been discussed without a clear consensus. I can only speak for myself. I feel a post minimum encourages spamming, Some posters have been solid right out of the gate and stifling them would not be in our communities best interest. We also have some long time posters who are as bad as anyone. It's an imperfect world. I believe most members here get into a pattern of skipping over some threads and posters based on who started it, etc. We also look for posts from some members. For example, I always read your posts. If there was a time when we needed to restrict a little I think time would be the best choice.
  12. QUOTE(Yossarian @ Jun 24, 2005 -> 12:43 PM) I'm not aware of how much each team is making or losing. If what you say is correct then Devil Ray fans have no hope. Why the hell would Naimoli and his new partner (can't remember his name) spent any dough to build a ball club if as you say they are the second most profitable? I know Steinbrenner said that the have nots of baseball would not take their luxury tax money and spend it on player development and it seems he was right. Kevin McClatchy of Pittsburgh has been criticized for using it to prop up his bottom line. I think this is #500 for me. That's a lot less than some people here but how bout a small prize? A sucker or a hershey bar maybe? Yossarian for Pres of the Quality over Quantity Club
  13. BTW, ESPN loves the Sox. How can they not love the 2004 WS Winners who ended the Curse of the Bambino? Remember when refering to the "Sox" it always means the Red Sox. Duh, you will never make it as a national sports announcer.

QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jun 24, 2005 -> 10:06 AM) Truer words have never been spoken. Never gets tired, the audio makes it even more funny. It's time someone prints up some: 'Elia for Mayor' T-Shirts. You'd be surprised how many Cub 'fans' have never heard the rant. What is Elia doing nowadays? We should invite him to the Cell for 'Lee Elia Day'. This weekend would be good.
  15. QUOTE(S720 @ Jun 24, 2005 -> 12:22 PM) Let's win the World Series this year to shut them up! Ahem. I think they have shut up, which is why some people are complaining.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 24, 2005 -> 12:11 PM) I will say, during the trading day, I do like watching CNBC Puts all the trading info in one place, I see a trend here Mr. Southsider.
  17. QUOTE(Hideaway Lights @ Jun 24, 2005 -> 12:16 PM) this thread is going to get way too unruly to sift through after about three days. Most speculation dies in a day or two. Just go to the last unread post.
  18. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Jun 24, 2005 -> 12:15 PM) Here's 2005 MLB attendance figs: http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/attendance Marlins rank 27th, ahead of only Cleveland, KC, and The Rays. See, they all stay home and read ESPN The Magazine
  19. QUOTE(sti3 @ Jun 24, 2005 -> 11:23 AM) Who's a more charismatic figure? Who strikes out more guys in a flashier way? Who's had a better career so far? Who is in a major market? On a first place, best record in baseball, team?
  20. QUOTE(jerseysox @ Jun 24, 2005 -> 12:12 AM) i got blown by some drunk girl in the men's room I was remembering a gay buddy of mine dressing up like a chick, getting drunk, and blowing some unsuspecting guy in the bathroom. I'm sure it can't be the same memory.
  21. Great Idea! BTW, let's hope for the most important trade, one that could have excellent long term benefits for the southside. Let's hope that a couple hundred thousand casual Cub fans trade in their Cubbie blue for Sox black, and remain fans. As much as us hard core types will b**** about the bandwagon jumpers, these are the people that keep Wrigley sold out, or nearly sold out every game. Imagine what a million new fans in attendance would do for the team. The hardcore Cub fans will stay with their team, but IMHO there is a vast group in the middle we can win over. Be kind to noobs. Invite a casual fan to a game.
