QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 21, 2005 -> 03:45 AM) Loven the club Tex. Very exclusive. There are a few more, but they don't want to admit it.

Frank HRS
QUOTE(ScottPodRulez22 @ Jun 21, 2005 -> 01:09 AM) Or you only have to sit pods once a week. Evert can play left field twice, put pods in center one time. Evert can play Rf once. And evert can play Dh once. This is a great problem to have though. This is the s*** that had fans upset with Jerry "the tinkerer" Manuel. Switching to a different line up everyday isn't going to work. Carl and Frank are going to platoon for now. Ozzie will have to decide a little bit by schedule and a little bit by match-ups. Either way, I suspect who ever is sitting will get a pitch hit appearance late in a game.

Moronotti flip-flops stance on Sox as expected...
I'm still holding my breath. Too many things can happen in sports. The US Open was over Saturday Night. A couple injuries and we're watching the Twins and the Indians in our rear view mirrors. The team is starting to make believers of the doubters. One by one. I don't expect anyone but the rapid fans to believe that this team was going to be the best in baseball. They are the surprise team n doubt about it.

19 year old age limit
From a sports perspective I wish this was a non-issue and that teams just wouldn't want a fresh out of high school kid. Again, from a fan's persective I think this is a good idea. From a legalistic, free market, capitalist point of view, it doesn't seem fair. Why should some kid be locked out of making a living? From a ready for life in the NBA point of view is one year of college as a varsity athlete really going to prepare them for life in the NBA?

School Colors
I was telling my kids that *my* High School had one of the all-time best color combinations, blue and maize (gold), while their mother's high school had the second worse imaginable, brown and white. I'm thinking brown and yellow would be the worse. Theirs are pretty solid also, blue & white which we my college colors and purple and gold, which despite the Laker influence is pretty good also. Thoughts? Any worse colors than brown and white?

Which NBA Coach is Greater?
Winning Championships causes even ordinary players to seem larger than life. Name someone in any sport that wins that many championships without the best talent around. Would someone pick a coach as greatest that took teams that should have finished 20 games under .500 and made them .500 teams? Winning, even with the best talent, takes good coaching. Just ask Jerry Manuel.

QUOTE(whitesoxin' @ Jun 21, 2005 -> 03:17 AM) You're up late for an old man Tex. Woke up when Jr. got a phone call and could not fall back asleep He was at a local concert where a few of his buddies were performing. So I figured I would get some of this paperwork out of the way.

WHITE SOX ALL STARS?
It just won't be an All-Star game without Crede Garland is a lock and may even start. Buerhle is going. Hermanson should be but who knows when people start calling in favors. Ozzie has a spot on the bench, and can leave after the 6th inning. Next is speculation and what happens with injuries. Gooch, pods, AJ, Kong, Carl (before the article hit), would not embarass anyone by being selected.

I'm a New Guy
Welcome. We've been allowing a little more craziness in the game threads, but it probably should be throttled back a little bit. Feel free to cheer on the Twins unless they get closer than 5 games, then STFU

Crede on Block?
This team is about balance. On the credit for winning balance sheet, Crede deposits in the defense category and withdraws on the offense. I'm not worried about keeping him in the lineup and hope Kenny is very patient and only pulls the trigger if the trade looks good beyond 2005. I would not make a trade for a projected 5 or 10% offensive improvement.

Catch-All Anything Thread
QUOTE(ChiSoxyGirl @ Jun 20, 2005 -> 10:26 PM) I saved up my bonus points from my debit card and cashed in my change jar (okay, okay, it's a piggy bank shaped like a baseball, but you know...) and bought a digital camera. I got a Canon A520. So far it's pretty good. Hooooooray! they are so cool. Stay organized from the start. My first one shot directly onto 3 1/2 floppy disks and now I have hundreds of disks and no clue what is on any of them.

Is Canadian health care all it is cracked up to be
QUOTE(LowerCaseRepublican @ Jun 20, 2005 -> 01:40 PM) Oh my God...sorry to be off topic but you've actually heard of Manhattan, IL. ::faints:: (its my home town) One of my favorite customers moved to Manhatten. I have used that comparison numerous times and have won a bet or two as a result. Internationally I use the Cairo and "Kay-Row"

Is Canadian health care all it is cracked up to be
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 20, 2005 -> 01:57 PM) Oh dear lord... Exactly where would the ineffeciencies be? That's a laugh. That's why they hire guys like Kap and pay them the big money to find them. Being a small business owner, do you know exactly where all of your ineffeciencies are? Now multiply that times billions to get governmental health care scale and try answering that again. Pricing is in Economics 101. Quantitative Analysis is quite a different field. Are you saying the inefficiencies would be on the payer side or the provider side? If it is on the payer (government) side that would not affect the health care you receive. I don't know why my Doctor would be any more or less efficient if he was receiving a check from the US or from Blue Cross. Would the inefficiencies cost more than the profits the insurance companies are generating now?

Most wins by a releif pitcher -- season
18! I was surprised. I thought that Cliffy had a shot at something with 5 so early in the season. He's got a long way to go.

Is Canadian health care all it is cracked up to be
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 20, 2005 -> 08:47 AM) Its not really opinion, but economic law. Ineffeciencies are always more present in fields where their is monopolistic pricing models. There is no incentive to reduce cost, because of lack of competition, there is no pressure to keep prices down. They can put whatever price they want on it, because people have to have it, and there is no one to undercut their pricing. Exactly where will the inefficiencies be? In the Doctor's office and Hospitals or at the payment centers? As far as keeping costs down, first of all wouldn't that mean making it more difficult to seek treatment and tests and a reduction in the quality of health care you would receive? Interestingly Doctors are more concerned about dwindling reimbursements for treatments. They are worried that the government will not be as generous with their payments as private insurance. They also worry about differences in costs between say Manhatten, NY and Manhatten, IL. If the reimbursements per procedure are the same, it would be a disaster for big city Doctors.

Lee - Pods a rare win - win trade
What is shows is how a team is like a puzzle. Lee IMHO is a better player, yet we could take a little away in power to add some speed, and come out ahead.

Lee - Pods a rare win - win trade
Looking at the trade today, it seems like one of those rare trades that both sides could be happy with. El Cabalo is on his way to the All-Star Game and Pods has been very useful at the top of the order. Toss on the balance of the trade and it is one of those rare both sides are happy trades. Especially nice that it involved an NL team.

Which NBA Coach is Greater?
Defining point: Is a coach more influential to getting a team it's base of wins or putting it over the top and a championship? I believe the players get the team in position and the coach helps finish the deal and puts the team over the top. The coaches biggest influence isn't winning the first game, it's winning the last.

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Jun 19, 2005 -> 10:21 PM) LMAO - you do have a point. I just did some quick research and calculations. Based on Southsiders posts for that week, a modest 40 wpm typing skill, 6 hours of sleep per night, communting to work, etc. it left exactly 3 minutes and 12 seconds for sex was it good for her too? remember I kid because I care

Are you able to do anything for your employees? That's where I think the greatest benefit to our economy would come. By making small business competitive in benefit packages, talented employees would be more willing to start or go to work for a small business.
