QUOTE(Athomeboy_2000 @ Feb 25, 2005 -> 09:32 AM) This is what I found in reguards to what the LCMS (Lutheran Church Missouri Synod) believe about the Pope.... The Pope Denouncing the Pope and a other beliefs that Catholics hold, is the only way Protestant Churches can exist, so this isn't much of a surprise. If they agreed with Catholic doctrine concerning the Pope, they would have to shut their doors or hire a Priest.

QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Feb 25, 2005 -> 08:50 AM) He's right, explain to me how there is a rivalry, when it's so one sided? Ok, let's see here, Yanks 27, 28 World championships, Red Sox um, hmm 1, 2 ? Could be because they are always meeting in the playoffs instead of ultimately meaningless games in July? Could be because of a minor player in baseball history Babe Ruth, and the Curse of the Bambino? Could be because Boston and NY are two of the biggest cities in America and reasonably close to each other? Could be because the Evil Empire has won all those Championships and that pisses people off more than two mediocre franchises trying to win the Upper Midwest Series each year instead of a World Series? Could it be that if Minny - Sox was really a historic rivalry we would have a Nuke_Minny and not a Nuke_Cleveland

QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Feb 25, 2005 -> 08:57 AM) Clapton and Stevie Ray and, I think, Robert Cray played together in the night Stevie Ray was killed. [/inconsequential tangent] Alpine Valley?

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Feb 25, 2005 -> 08:28 AM) Those are clear cut things in a clear cut context. Those are easy reads, and it has nothing to do whether the things were "good" or not. God never said "No gays shall ever be wed." Its left up to interpretation. God DID say "honor thy mother and father", so we don't have to wonder about it and look for guidence on how to treat our parents. Thou shall not kill seems clear, yet we still have Capital Punishment. Even the clear stuff gets debated.

Holy crap. I was poking around some MP3 files and found an awesome version of Ave Maria done by Celine Dion. I really dislike about everything she has ever recorded but this was amazing. I also found a recording of Clapton, Stevie Ray Vaughan, and Santana's Traffic Jam; Wow. I think they are playing guitars, but what is flying out of those fingers couldn't have come from a man made instrument. Amazing what a dose of insomnia does.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Feb 25, 2005 -> 08:06 AM) See to me that still reads as a part of the privledges and duties as Heaven's gatekeeper. IE if Peter decides someone can enter the gates of Heaven, then they can pass into heaven. If he condemns them then they are stuck on Earth. Really interesting stuff though. It really tells you how someone can take a verse or two and use that to justify outlawing gay marriage or interracial marriage or just about anything the bible has been used to justify. Or to justify honoring your parents, not murdering, keeping the sabbath holy, remaining faithful to your spouse, etc. The Bible has been used to justify some very good things also.

Those passages are translated several different ways depending on whose "Seal of Approval" the editors are trying to gain. Most Protestant translations are not that strong, in fact they tip toe around it very well. Catholic Bibles tend to be even more forceful. As always pick your truth, it's probably in the middle somewhere. I do not believe there will be separate lines for us all on our way to our just rewards. As I mentioned in another thread, effective marketing requires a choice, Coke vs. Pepsi, Christianity vs. Communism, Christianity vs. Homosexuals, and Catholicism vs. Fundamentalism all work out nicely. Yes Virginia, even your spiritual leaders are trying to witness or convert you. Bring your skepticism and shop wisely. Your life may depend on it. BTW, a CD of today's sermon can be purchased in the lobby along with the glow in the dark Last Supper sculpture.

QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Feb 24, 2005 -> 09:10 PM) You get minimal points for oldsters, not zero points. Man, the years I wasted slots filled with should-be ringers - people like Marjorie Stoneman Douglas and the Queen Mum and Reagan and Eubie Blake and George Burns, etc., who just kept hanging on. :banghead We always used 100 minus the age. I remember when someone had River Phoenix. Killed us all that year. Back to the Pope and the growing speculation of who will replace him. Years ago Cardinal Bernadin was rumoured to be somewhere in the discussion. Sadly, now there really isn't an American even in the mix. I haven't been able to go to sleep. I know this is a very Catholic feeling, but the Pope has been heavy on my heart tonight as I await a computer beep and a CNN update or other instant report. I'm listening to sad songs and praying. It seems the good, they all die young. My son is going on retreat this weekend for his Confirmation. Should be an interesting time.

QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Feb 24, 2005 -> 05:39 PM) you mean soup kitchens? and food banks, and other means of distribution. There are not enough right now if we pulled out even 30% and expected private organizations to pick up the slack.

One of the adjustments I've had to make is being interviewed now by people younger than me. I hadn't had a "real" interview in 15 years. It's been people coming to me and almost offering a position. As much as I would have liked the EVP of International Sales position, I knew I really didn't have a chance. They also had a position for a Representative. I know that would have been a lead pipe cinch to get. I thought getting to the third level of interviews was a victory I don't mind getting turned down if I'm stretching. I would feel really strange if I ever got turned down for one I wasn't stretching for.

QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Feb 24, 2005 -> 02:58 PM) Hell no, there will never be another rock era like there was from the early 60s through the early 70s. Reggae will never be as good as it was in the mid-70s. Jazz fusion will never produce thousands of killer tracks per year like it did from 1967 to 1973. James Brown ain't coming back, and neither are Al Green, Otis Redding, or Marvin Gaye for that matter. There's nothing wrong with keeping this stuff alive, is there? Are you suggesting that it should just die with your generation? That's perhaps one of the most selfish things that I've ever heard. A candy-ass argument, for sure. I think both posts are valid. Music cannot stay static. Should artists stop recording because they could not do better than Mercy Mercy Me? I remember an artist stating that after listening to Sgt. Peppers, they thought why record anything, this album is perfect. I believe that every generation should have some music they call their own. I have the mid to late 70s stadium rock. Aerosmith, The Who, Springsteen. Others have rap or country. But form your own memories while respecting and enjoying the older stuff that layed the base. So keep the old, but have music that reflects today, with today's issues.

QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Feb 24, 2005 -> 12:01 PM) GREAT book!!! Best "Vampire" story ever. I'm reading: Guitar Player Repair Guide by Dan Erlewine. Slow going on this one. I used to read 3 books a week, and then I fell off on reading. I really need to get back to it, but when I have free time, I usually grab the guitar. I first read Legend for a Lit class and was going slow trying to remember all the details for the upcoming test. By chapter 3 I said screw it and read it in one night, then went back and tried to fit together all the characters, elements, etc. While it is a vampire story, it is so much more and not the usual goth, Saturday afternoon movie portrayal.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Feb 24, 2005 -> 01:07 PM) You're right I didn't answer. Instead of using existing distribution points like grocery stores, we will create new systems. Instead of one organization tracking what benefits people receive, each group is on their own. Instead of people receiving benefits from one group, they will spend time coordinating from several different groups, taking time away from job searches, education, etc. And all this will be bought and paid by a fewer number of citizens. Will there be enough volunteers to operate shelters, food pantries, etc. during the day, or will they only be open at night and weekends? How will the local community group check to see if the person asking for help, truly needs it? As much as I would like to see reforms, I don't see this working for the better. We got this system because the old systems were not working.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Feb 24, 2005 -> 12:58 PM) I guess we should all stop buying girl scout cookies and boy scout popcorn so that we aren't funding these evil private organization... So you are expecting Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts to run a food pantry? You never answered when I asked where is the money going to come from and who will deliver the services. Will everyone who receives a $50 reduction in their taxes now send it to social services?
