Fox News Spawns Hate for Canada
QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Mar 2, 2005 -> 04:08 PM) I love that pic. My new mantra. Starting next week I will be driving a nice 1 ton V10 Dodge truck, it gets about 9 miles per gallon. In a stunning but of irony, it's green. To go with my already conservative views on unions, abortion, balanced budgets, what is fit for the airwaves, I'm going to start pointing out how the media and judges suck.

I love Fox News. I'm converting and joining my buddy PA on the conservative bandwagon.

No one voted into HOF by vet's commitee in 2005
Putting away the Sox - Cub thing for a minute, I really think Santo should be in the hall. I'm very surprised by this (again). I know he would have given his right nah, I won't go there.

Happy Birthday, Texas!
QUOTE(ChiSoxyGirl @ Mar 2, 2005 -> 12:13 PM) I'd love to have a cowboy. Now that merits a YEEEEEEEEEE HAAAAAAAAAAAAW! Well shoot howdy, why didn't you say that before? Send a photo "I can see you got your eye on this ole cowboy and I can tell you've never had one for your own Or you've never been around one Now you're thinking that you've found one Well, it might be kind of fun to take him home. You giggle everytime I say 'Yes, ma'am.' And I get this feeling that if I held you tight You'd be seeing his and hers Buckles, boots, and spurs But that's a feeling you'll get over overnight. Chorus: Cause watcha gonna do with a cowboy When that ole rooster crows at dawn, And he's lying there instead Of gettin out of bed And puttin on his boots and getting gone? Watcha gonna do when he says, 'Honey, I got half a mind to stay'? Watcha gonna do with a cowboy when he don't saddle up and ride away? You see it takes a special kind of woman To put up with the life a cowboy leads Cause his boots are always muddy And his beer drinking buddies Will camp out on the couch and never leave. Don't even start to think you're gonna change him You'll be better off to try to rope the wind. What he his is what you got and he can't be what he's not and honey you can't hide him from your friends. Chorus Yeah whatcha gonna do with a cowboy when he don't saddle up and ride away?"

Happy Birthday, Texas!
I know y'all non-Texans would want to know what to do when the Texas pledge is being recited. Besides suffering from state envy, y'all probaly wouldn't want anyone to know ya'aint from aroun here. Pledge of Allegiance to the State Flag (a) The pledge of allegiance to the state flag is, "Honor the Texas flag; I pledge allegiance to thee, Texas, one and indivisible." (B) The pledge of allegiance to the state flag should be rendered by all present except those in uniform by standing at attention facing the flag with the right hand over the heart. Individuals who are not in uniform and who are wearing a headdress that is easily removeable should remove their headdress with their right hand and hold it at the left shoulder, with the hand over the heart. Individuals in uniform should remain silent, face the flag, and render the military salute. © The pledge of allegiance to the state flag may be recited at all public and private meetings at which the pledge of allegiance to the United States flag is recited and at state historical events and celebrations. (d) The pledge of allegiance to the state flag should be recited after the pledge of allegiance to the United States flag if both are recited.

New Rap War?
Some styles of music require more attention to lyrics than others. Using an extreme example, most Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, etc. tunes needed strong attention to lyrics. Other styles need more attention to dance-ability, beat, etc. Just saying . . .

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Mar 1, 2005 -> 11:11 AM) CPA's are good Tex (shameless plug here) Seriously, if a CPA can't save you what you pay them, they're not the best CPA. Sometimes, a CPA can give you ideas that generate enough money to triple what you pay them over a year. I'm a big fan of CPAs and Lawyers. I am not a big fan of a "book keeper" who charges 500 dollars to send out 25 invoices, balance the checkbook, and send out payroll. I can cut the invoices in under an hour a month total, balance a checkbook is a breeze with Quickbooks, and payroll services for small businesses are dirt cheap now. The key is working with a CPA before getting too far down the road. This business is going to be a challenge based on some current situations. My wife, son, and daughter will be helping at various times. I am starting to think about the tax implications of paying my son versus a big, jumbo, allowance. Doesn't every kid get a $200 per week allowance?

Any Runners?
QUOTE(Stocking @ Feb 28, 2005 -> 05:23 PM) I got into the health thing of late and am going to run the shamrock shuffle. Has anyone ran this event and what can I expect? If this is your first road race, have fun and enjoy the sites. Unless you are a top college runner, grab a spot in the back and force yourself to go out slow for the first mile or two (I assume this is a 10k). Then spend the next 4 miles passing people and saying hello. Save the racing for down the road.

Executions of minors halted by supreme court
QUOTE(winodj @ Mar 1, 2005 -> 10:25 AM) That was one of his arguments in his dissenting opinion. That's funny coming from the guy that tried to keep my sexuality illegal. It wasn't you personally it was the other immoral, going straight to hell, heathens Until our legal system is perfect, our labs are perfect, our judges and juries are perfect, we should stop all executions.

Oz vs. our boy
I like the Phil article better and it highlights their journalistic differences. Jay clearly enjoys taking swipes are JR and Co. Phil seemed more matter of fact about it. Still Oz deserves this and it will blow over by Thursday unless Oz keeps it alive. Funny and sad stuff.

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Mar 1, 2005 -> 10:39 AM) To interface with quickbooks you will need something a little more robust, but not as fancy as some of these programs are. I think if you got a middle of the road shareware program (not more then $50) you will get your results. A good friend of mine from the corporate wars, pulled his escape chute and bought and greatly expanded a lawn care company. He's got four rigs running around the Rio Grande Valley and uses a real top of the line program. I love some of the features but spending $1000 is silly for my application at this time. I also need something that will link to my Palm. I want instant access. As I am reaquanting myself with Quickbooks, I am marveling at all they accomplished with a couple hundred dollar package. I've already eliminated about $2,000 a year in expenses that the previous owner was spending on book keeping and payroll. That was on top of his CPA and legal costs. I need to keep the CPA and probably expand his role in all this, but not using Quickbooks Deluxe payroll solution seems like a waste of money.

Oz vs. our boy
QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Mar 1, 2005 -> 10:01 AM) Both Marriotti and Rogers have similar articles this morning, which exposes Ozzie as being full of it. If the White Sox organization needs or wants to respond to Magglio's comments, they would be better served not having it's mouthpiece being someone who,at least at one time, felt exactly the same way Magglio is feeling, and is on record stating that. IMHO, the major difference is Maggs was offered contracts, Oz was not. Something Jay, I am certain, realized and ignored. While they said the same thing, I will give OZ some slack for having more of a case than Maggs. There isn't a bigger Maggs suppporter here, but it's time for Maggs to STFU and play hard for the Tigers. The Sox offered about as good of a contract as they could. Could he have gotten even more? Yes, and he proved it. I thought both sides did their best, and fouls were not flagerant until ST started. Then Maggs opened the can of whoop ass and it's going to turn on him. The best thing he could do to stick it to the Sox is not with his mouth but on the field. Make the All-Star game, hit .325 30 HR 120 RBIs. Grown up, all of you. (baseball people, not the good posters here) Geez, this is like 2nd grade. did you hear what Maggs said about you? Really? well here's what I have to say about that.

The Mariotti-Maggs-Media-Judges-Unions-
I knew that one was coming Mariotti -- Entertaining Maggs -- Did what was right for him and his family. No problem. But it's time to STFU. Media -- Our greatest defenders and one key to keeping this country great. Judges -- Checks and balances again keep this country great. Unions -- :puke You forgot Balance the budget no more trickle down, no more cut taxes and spend politics. You have to pay for what you spend. Capital Punishment -- when people are perfect and our justice system is perfect, then start killing people. Until then, Thou shall not kill Abortion -- Not a form of birth control Indecency on the air waves -- They are regulated for all of us, through the government. Not everyone and everything should be on free airwaves without controls.

Adults screwing it up for the kids
In one area or another I've been working in youth programs for 20 years. Nothing screws this up faster and more completely than adults. One of my most cherished memories was a practice basketball game for 8th grade boys in a Parochial league. The refs did not show up to their $12 per night gig, and the coaches were deciding what to do. The consensus would be each team would put out an Assistant coach to make calls. I suggested the craziest idea. Call your own fouls on yourself. Let's teach these kids sportsmanship and let them know we trust them and all that. It was probably the best called game all season. Putting these kids on the honor system and they came through. Coaches, being coaches even groaned noticeably over some of the "calls", but soon started smiling and laughing and realizing we had done something right with these boys.

Oz vs. our boy
I love the irony. I cannot think of a player that left here saying anything nice about the franchise. I cannot blame that on Mariotti. I thought it was funny reading Ozzie's own words. But Jay is wrong. We are not a major market team. We are #2 in a split market, putting us on par with the Milwaukees of the world. We deserve what we are getting, a string of economically reasonable, breaking even, second place seasons with a strong desire to rid ourselves of any superstars and achieving the holy grail of balance, 25 guys all earning $2.7 mil per year. Maggs, the team made an offer even after you were injured, STFU and play hard for the Tigers. It wasn't like OZ or Fisk or S. Alomar where the team said, we're finished with you, hit the bricks. The treatment of Fisk IMHO, is the worse treatment a HoF player ever received. Everyone on the team grab a seat on the plane, not so fast Fisk . . .
