All around the league, fans are pointing to players on other teams and claiming that guy who lost weight was on the juice; while *my* guy just needed to drop a couple pounds, he was flabby, etc. What's a guy in Minnesota suppose to think about the new slimmer, trimmer Carl. The same guy who was so moody all those seasons? Hmmm. The guy stops working out so hard and gains a few pounds of flab where muscle was and the world has him on the steroids.

QUOTE(AssHatSoxFan @ Feb 20, 2005 -> 05:53 PM) i am an engineer and i was able to figure it out quite easily i am not really sure what kind of validity it has on proving what type of person you are Not what type of person you are, but the analytic tools you usually use. If you commonly deal with making sense of numeric data, such as an accountant, engineer, etc. you will gravitate towards those styles of solutions.

What some people do with their free time

Soxtalk is different things to different people and each person is looking for something slightly different when they type soxtalk.com into their browser. Some stay in palehose and rarely stray, some now have a majority of posts in SL&P or AJs Sports Pub. IMHO it has evolved beyond a baseball site for many of the netizens. With that comes some guidelines to keep people happy. Recognize also that while we may all have been created equal, we all aren't equal here. Be a Cubbie troll or Indians lover and see how equal you are. Keep calling people racially charged names and see how equal you are. Some people here have the power to suggest change, some have the power to make change. Again, we all aren't equal. But then again, isn't that a microcosm of life? Peace

QUOTE(cheeses_h_rice @ Feb 21, 2005 -> 10:50 AM) Perfectly normal to shed 25 pounds in 4 months, perfectly normal... :rolly I wonder if he went on the Jurassic Carl diet. Wasn't he feeling a little heavy also?

When you place someone on your ignore list you do not see their avatars or sigs. You will see one line that basically states you have choosen to ignore (name) to view this post click here One way to handle the situation. Not a perfect way,. and it isn't a one size fits all.

QUOTE(YASNY @ Feb 21, 2005 -> 08:55 AM) Call me dense, but what are you getting at here? I read several posts regarding sexual abuse of children by Priests and believed, by the title, this was a Geo-Political Thread. Then I read a few more posts wondering why certain things like almost naked women and religous cartoons are allowed while calling someone gay instead of stupid is not allowed (the most common issue that comes up regarding gays). Which discussion are we having? And my comment regarding visitors was ahead of the "if no one here complains about something, why is it banned" comment that always seems to get tossed out here. The rules are made with both members and visitors in mind. The powers to be would like to see this community continue to grow. For that to happen, Sox fans of all stripes should be made to feel welcome. To be a closer community, we need to discuss more than just baseball or more than just sports.

Since we have moved towards what is and isn't allowed. Let me throw this log on the fire. In the discussion as to what is and isn't allowed, consideration is given to our current members *and* visitors who may drop by, read a few posts, and are deciding to stay and become regular contributors.

Full disclosure, I've been recognized for my work with youth through both the Catholic and Methodist Churches. I consider myself Catholic. Yes, a tiny percentage of Priests have been committed terrible acts against youth boys and girls. They have violated a trust and those acts ripple far beyond just the people involved. Further, the Church acted in a manner that was inconsistent with Church teachings and more in the interest of the institution that its members. The same can be said for Doctors, Teachers, Nurses, Camp Counselors, Scoutmasters, Police, and other people who were entrusted with children and took advantage of them. The Catholic Church has been the ones in the headlines and takes the brunt of the publics' outrage. To be more outraged when this was a person who by their position in life should be more trustworthy is using faulty logic. To be more outraged that this was a religious leader, means one would be less outraged if this was a plumber or engineer or short order cook at McDonalds. We are all humans with human strengths and weaknesses. We should be equally outraged when an adult takes advantage of a child. I saw the cartoon of Jesus and it pained me to see my Savior the brunt of this joke. Was I offended? Yes. I also know that my God is a strong God and this will not change that. I saw the dollar sign on a medal around this caricature's neck and it reminded me that not all religious leaders are in it for the right reasons. Some see it as easy money and prey on people who trust them. All people of faith should be alert for those unscrupulous individuals who seek to defraud believers because the bad person thinks we are easy marks. We should bring the same skepticism that we bring to car salesmen, attorneys, Doctors, and politicians with us to Church. Of course this is all interwoven and interrelated. Con men, pedophiles, and crooks of all shapes and sizes, prey on trusting people. They look for victims. They find them where they find them. Overall you are safer in Church than a bar, ballpark, or walking down Milwaukee Avenue.

****OFFICIAL SOXTALK 2005 PREDICTIONS THREAD****
Texsox replied to BridgeportHeather's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Feb 20, 2005 -> 08:22 PM) How can you say Cleveland is for real? Their bullpen is sub par and their rotation is average. But they have a nice offense. Basically the same mix we've been using to finish ahead of them for the past four seasons. -
QUOTE(Chisoxmatt @ Feb 20, 2005 -> 08:07 PM) DAMN IT!!! I typed in "watch picture" on google... it didnt tell me anything. Their advertising in the 1960s featured one of the all time greatest tag lines.

****OFFICIAL SOXTALK 2005 PREDICTIONS THREAD****
Texsox replied to BridgeportHeather's topic in Pale Hose Talk
An injury to one of the starting pitchers, the closer role will switch back and forth between two or three closers, and a lower all-around team batting average and we will be fading from the 3-team race in mid September. Drinking the Koolaid. AJ, Arow, Kong, and Iguchi hit .300, Frank hits 40 HR and 120 RBI. We steal bases left and right. 4 starters win 15+ games. Division champs. I can see both. I think the Central is a 3.5 team race. I think Detroit is only a threat if everything goes right for them. They kneed to have a 2003 Royal start and some help. Cleveland is for real, bring Nuke's screen name back into vogue. We are lacking in current star power and that will keep experts off the bandwagon. Either way this clubhouse explodes at some point in the season. Too many new faces, too many guys in critical stages of their careers. Too many different languages causing some players to feel isolated. Expect at least one major soap opera. God bless ye merry gentleman. -
QUOTE(Chisoxmatt @ Feb 20, 2005 -> 07:15 PM) Funny seinfeld quote. I'm not understanding the watch picture. Then you are too young . . . Wait for one of the oldsters to come by.

"Movie hot dogs! I'd rather lick the floor" I just heard that line and immediately thought it needed to be here.

QUOTE(SEALgep @ Feb 20, 2005 -> 03:52 PM) Who do you have in first and second? Minny and either Cleveland or Detroit surprises, but not both. I'm not totally enamored with some of the changes. If we had picked up a couple .300 hitters and not .270 with speed, I'd be drinking more of the Koolaid. I think we treaded water in right field. Maggs not signing helped a lot. I'd rather beging into the season with Dye or any of two dozen other starting RFs then the 2005 Maggs. (I would rather have had the 2000-2003 Maggs in a heart beat) Center keeps getting better. Lee is better than Pods. Up the middle are question marks. Could be boom or bust. On one hand the Japan to MLB road is becoming well traveled and seemingly everyone that has made the jump plays well. Is it time for a bust? And wouldn't it be our luck to sign the first one? Kong has been up and down from year to year. I expect a solid season but who knows? Is Crede finally going to reach the stardom that was predicted? Is AJ a cancer or MVP? Will our rotation have the same complaints as SF? Will a return to the AL especially the Central, where he would seemingly need less study time help? Rotation has a health issue or two and we know our system is razor thin with SP. If these 5 all stay reasonably healthy, 3rd place becomes one huge disappointment. 1 injury towards the top and we may cover, two and adios season. Gotta love our bullpen depth. I am holding my breath that Shingo continues to deceive. However I hear the Who singing We Don't Get Fooled Again once the league has more than 35 seconds of tape and tendencies to show their hitters. Frank? Jurassic Carl? Weight loss, foot injury, how much to expect? Gload could be valuable here by season's end. I read the reasons we should win the division and agree, it could happen. I read the reasons we should be 4th in the division and agree, it could happen. Pick a spot 1-4 and I can easily see it happening.

We have a manager who loves to talk. This may have been something he contemplated for .01 second when some reporter asked what about Pods in center. Until he has penciled in a few lineups the last 2 weeks of spring training, I think this is just for s***s and grins and to keep spring training fresh for the hitters. IMHO ST is too damn long.

After figuring it out, it is easy to see why an engineer would have a problem with this. I also believe it isn't a sign of intelligence but field of knowledge. My guess, and written s;lightly in code to not spoil the solution is, someone with a B.A. would have an easier time than someone with a B.S..

QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Feb 18, 2005 -> 11:55 AM) Until Googling "I once licked a coffee table" returns SoxTalk as the top hit, our work, sadly, is not done. Back to work... Far better are links on other sites to here referencing I once licked a coffee table so all the bloggers here need to include a link on their sites to come here and discuss the nuances of licking a coffee table for fun and profit.
