  1. "Movie hot dogs! I'd rather lick the floor" I just heard that line and immediately thought it needed to be here.
  2. Damn, I'm going to miss him.

QUOTE(SEALgep @ Feb 20, 2005 -> 03:52 PM) Who do you have in first and second? Minny and either Cleveland or Detroit surprises, but not both. I'm not totally enamored with some of the changes. If we had picked up a couple .300 hitters and not .270 with speed, I'd be drinking more of the Koolaid. I think we treaded water in right field. Maggs not signing helped a lot. I'd rather beging into the season with Dye or any of two dozen other starting RFs then the 2005 Maggs. (I would rather have had the 2000-2003 Maggs in a heart beat) Center keeps getting better. Lee is better than Pods. Up the middle are question marks. Could be boom or bust. On one hand the Japan to MLB road is becoming well traveled and seemingly everyone that has made the jump plays well. Is it time for a bust? And wouldn't it be our luck to sign the first one? Kong has been up and down from year to year. I expect a solid season but who knows? Is Crede finally going to reach the stardom that was predicted? Is AJ a cancer or MVP? Will our rotation have the same complaints as SF? Will a return to the AL especially the Central, where he would seemingly need less study time help? Rotation has a health issue or two and we know our system is razor thin with SP. If these 5 all stay reasonably healthy, 3rd place becomes one huge disappointment. 1 injury towards the top and we may cover, two and adios season. Gotta love our bullpen depth. I am holding my breath that Shingo continues to deceive. However I hear the Who singing We Don't Get Fooled Again once the league has more than 35 seconds of tape and tendencies to show their hitters. Frank? Jurassic Carl? Weight loss, foot injury, how much to expect? Gload could be valuable here by season's end. I read the reasons we should win the division and agree, it could happen. I read the reasons we should be 4th in the division and agree, it could happen. Pick a spot 1-4 and I can easily see it happening.
  4. We have a manager who loves to talk. This may have been something he contemplated for .01 second when some reporter asked what about Pods in center. Until he has penciled in a few lineups the last 2 weeks of spring training, I think this is just for s***s and grins and to keep spring training fresh for the hitters. IMHO ST is too damn long.
  5. After figuring it out, it is easy to see why an engineer would have a problem with this. I also believe it isn't a sign of intelligence but field of knowledge. My guess, and written s;lightly in code to not spoil the solution is, someone with a B.A. would have an easier time than someone with a B.S..

80 wins and a third place finish.
  7. QUOTE(mreye @ Feb 18, 2005 -> 12:13 PM) To say the least. I love loopholes! Which is why they have totally nude on Monday and Tuesday. Gotta love, as an old friend of mine would say, a colon show.
  8. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Feb 18, 2005 -> 11:55 AM) Until Googling "I once licked a coffee table" returns SoxTalk as the top hit, our work, sadly, is not done. Back to work... I once licked a coffee table I once licked a coffee table I once licked a coffee table I once licked a coffee table I once licked a coffee table I once licked a coffee table I once licked a coffee table I once licked a coffee table I once licked a coffee table I once licked a coffee table I once licked a coffee table I once licked a coffee table I once licked a coffee table I once licked a coffee table... Far better are links on other sites to here referencing I once licked a coffee table so all the bloggers here need to include a link on their sites to come here and discuss the nuances of licking a coffee table for fun and profit.
  9. Funny Ebay item of the week.
  10. IIRC Spring training was a disaster, then when he finally took over for Billy, he was lights out for a couple months before fading a bit at the end. As teams develop a better priofile on him, he will not be sneaking up on hitters like he did last year. I do not see him repeating last year's success. He is also going to be asked to closer out of the gate this year. The MLB season is longer than Japan's season. Let's hope he's up to a full MLB season of closing. Lots of question marks. He has the talent to work through it all, so we'll just have to hope.

  12. QUOTE(Steff @ Feb 10, 2005 -> 10:41 AM) Actually I really think he thought (or was hoping) I would find proper comparison to the red car analogy... :rolly Sorry, I said a law had to be broken and you said anything, I thought you meant anything.
  13. QUOTE(Steff @ Feb 10, 2005 -> 10:24 AM) Anyone can be sued for anything. It's in a jury's hands to award damages. LOL Ok Steff. and a jury could award damages because someone drives a red car. In the end, a law must be broken.

QUOTE(mreye @ Feb 10, 2005 -> 09:26 AM) Tex, is this bizarro day? You agree with me here, you agree with me on the WalMart issue. OK, what'd you do with the real Tex? And BTW, it is you that is agreeing with me
  16. I always wish I was invited to give a toast at Charls and Diana's wedding. Who could resist the line "Drink up Chuck and Di!"

  18. QUOTE(Steff @ Feb 10, 2005 -> 09:37 AM) The publisher can be sued. The Publisher would lose if they knew Canseco's allegations were false. That cannot be sued for publishing the allegations. Example: Every newspaper in America published Clinton's quote "I did not have sexual relations with that woman" and it was later proved false. They were not sued for printing a lie. Newspapers printed allegations that Cardinal Bernadin had sexual relations with a young man. Later the man admitted to making up the story. Again, the publisher cannot be sued.
  19. He claims that Dubya knew about the steroids when he was with the Rangers. We'll see if Bush sues . . . The problem is how much are you going to spend on the law suit versus what you could collect from a broke Jose Canseco. Let's say someone does sue and wins, does that convince the American public? I don't think so, just ask OJ, who is still looking for Nicole's killers. It will come down to who is more believable to the jury, Canseco who repeats what he claims, or the player who says, I never tested positive. People will still believe who they want to believe regardless of any lawsuits.
  20. QUOTE(winodj @ Feb 10, 2005 -> 08:50 AM) If more people shopped with their conscience before their pocketbook, Wal*Mart probably wouldn't do as well as it does. This is a situation just like a McDonald's. People who work there, possibly for lack of a better opportunity, seek to get their working conditions and salary bettered. By organizing, their barganing power increases. By turning their back on unions, large corporations show that they don't care about the asset that is the cause of their profits to begin with. People. The problens with unions is they want to treat all employees the same, the shining stars and the lazy, just getting bys. Just because a corporation doesn't want a union doesn't mean they automatically treat their employees bad.

Common sense changes all the time. Common sense told us that the sun, moon, and stars revolved around the flat earth. Common sense would tell us that a box cutter couldn't cause an airplane to crash into the World Trade Center.

  24. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Feb 10, 2005 -> 07:55 AM) It would be interesting to see what their margins look like. I don't think it really matters. Their strategy is the absolute lowest cost of goods and services. What that translates to as a retail prices is market driven. As long as they are acting legally, paying min wage, offering proper benefits, etc. they shouldn't be legally required to do more because they are more profitible than company X down the street. Paying lower wages, in theory, means they will have lesser skilled employees. When someone builds a model where their superior employees outsell WalMarts lesser employees then the market works. Currently that hasn't happened. I side with the Republicans on this one. I'm not a big fan of labor unions. I know here in McAllen we have a K-Mart and a Wal-Mart side by side. If you go to K-Mart you can park closer to the door, get through the isles quicker, and there is rarely a line at the chechouts. Why? Because most of the world is across the street at Wal-Mart. Nothing is forcing the employees to work at Wal-Mart. Customers I'm certain probably know about the labor issues and maybe they stopped shopping at that store forcing the closing?? Who knows.
