  1. I'm so old I remember it was Hawk's idea. In fact Tony was against it and it was yet another point of argument between Hawk and Tony. https://www.sun-sentinel.com/news/fl-xpm-1986-03-28-8601190019-story.html https://www.washingtonpost.com/archive/sports/1986/05/14/theres-nothing-major-league-about-white-sox-circus/2ed26047-b85a-4167-8ab7-642ec8501b55/ Last little bit, Tony moved Fisk up to 2nd in the order when he was struggling. The idea was to give him a little different responsibility. Maybe take a pitch or two to see if Rudy Law could steal a base. It worked and Fisk got himself out of the slump. Tony has kept trying that to this day. https://www.si.com/mlb/whitesox/history/a-conversation-with-tony-la-russa
  2. Every AL Central beat writer for the Athletic is still picking the Sox to win the division.
  3. I'd like him even less if he was smiling while batting .099
  4. I feel the need to balance the above with a Fi-re To-ny da da da da da Fi-re To-ny da da da da da
  5. With the Bummer injury finally admitted I'm guessing they have been hiding stuff from opponents about injuries. Tony has been hobbling together arms. I hate to carry any water for this man but we may be in more injury trouble than we imagined. The cupboard is bare. Tony doesn't have much to work with and it got worse.
  6. Didn't we just fight for higher player salaries? Those assholes in ownership were making billions while underpaying players. The Sox will continue to make a lot of money.
  7. Tony has been manager now for 51,062,400 seconds 851,040 minutes 14,184 hours 591 days 84 weeks and 3 days For the love of God and baseball isn't that long enough??!
  8. I'm parking a bit in gas pumps from Texas to Canada. I'll also be depositing in state and federal accounts through the national park system, BLM, and state parks. I'll be supporting local businesses including guides, restaurants, grocery stores, brew pubs, wineries, distilleries, golf courses, music venues, and miscellaneous. One place I will NOT be parking any money - Guaranteed Rate Field. Plus, without my usual compelling reason to visit the birth land of my be ancestors, I will remain in our migratory range of Lake County. My usual $1,000 day in Chicago will not happen. Yo, local merchants of Chicago, Tony is costing you money.
  9. Then we'll need a bigger boat.
  10. Oh God no. Where is he working?
  11. ? Tony
  12. Correct. There is so much blame to spread around. The only thing that can change with 100% certainty, is firing people. They can start at the bottom, start at the top, I don't care but just stop the same bull shit every day.
  13. One great thing about this series. It really can't get much worst, and if it does, it doesn't really matter. This is what I expected but got fooled by those first couple series. Third place finish.
  14. I wonder if fans of AA teams have to put up with this?
  15. I wouldn't be opposed. It's at least a step in the right direction. Not since Greg Walker have I felt a change was needed.
  16. I get that it's tough managing around so many injuries, but that's when the manager can really make a difference. So far if we could quantify the difference it would be a negative WAR
  17. My road trip starts in a few days. I'm thinking I'll ignore the team until July 21st when I return.
  18. Nobody noticed until now that he was on the 40?
  19. At least it's close enough that we are discussing very minor changes.
  20. My hunch was Bummer was day to day but just couldn't get over the hump.
  21. How do you know there was zero intent?
  22. As much as I'd like to put it all on Tony, looking at the totality of the Kenny Williams / Rock Hahn era I'm more inclined to believe they don't listen to their managers in these decisions. And Tony is old school so you don't criticize the management, he'll say it's the best tasting shit he's ever had.
  23. If they really need a message how about sending the players a message their careers are on the line. No more sweet contracts after fielding, hitting, and playing like they are.
  24. I look at all the things that need to be fixed and I see one that is 100% under someone's full control. That's ending Tony's managerial career. No other change is guaranteed. But I think there is a better chance of improving lineups and better in game decisions after the first domino falls. I take no delight in seeing his career ending. I was a supporter going into this year. I believe we have some serious player issues that collectively are a bigger problem. But again this is the only change that is within someone's complete control.
  25. There is a point when an important, actually critical, piece of your championship dream isn't playing well but it's only a couple games so you keep him in. On the other end is the point you have to realize playing everyday isn't helping and you have to pull him from the lineup. Too soon or too late create equally bad outcomes. I think fans would pull guys too soon, especially if they are unpopular to begin with. Managers tend to leave them in too long. I don't see a WS hope without him playing 90% of himself so just dumping him to save a few dollars of the team's money doesn't make sense to me. They won't find a replacement with his upside. So how to fix this? Either today ( preferably) or tomorrow (one last last chance) he needs to sit for a few days This week find a couple matchups in his favor as a pitch hitter. Other factor: the most coachable players are the most at risk when new coaches come in with a different outlook.
