Or have three independent groups running baseball. Perhaps one group elected by the players, another group elected by the owners, and a commissioner elected by the fans. To change anything it would take a majority of votes in the first two groups plus the commissioner. If the commissioner doesn’t believe it’s in the best interest of the game they can say no, but then the other two groups could override if they have a supermajority of votes.

I understand using two or more suppliers but the specifications have to be the same. Also, mix balls from both manufacturer at every game. Then it's random chance from pitch to pitch. But sending all of manufacturer A to that stadium and all of manufacturer B to a different stadium isn't good practice.

I prefer that the folks that are working to feed their families, the vendors, the ground crews, the ticket agents, the parking lot employees, the businesses that cover their rent when there are ball games to not get screwed over by billionaire owners and millionaire players. I understand you just like cozy up to the players so they will sell you their autograph and could care less about the little guy. I believe teams that accept public monies should have to return some of it when they sell the team at a profit. I believe some of their profits should go to improvements in the communities the team draws from. I believe if they accept public money they and their sub contractors should be required to pay the livable wage in the area. You want the profits to go to higher player salaries.

I don't believe an organization should honor someone who dishonored the organization.

The owners and veteran players have room to be generous and compromise by taking care of the younger players and minimum wagers. Otherwise we can watch some minor league teams play in the mlb ballparks for a while.

I'm taking the most pessimistic approach and thinking the 2022 season will not happen.

I'm not suggesting they are spoiled, I believed until proven otherwise they are hard working, competitive men, trying to make the most money possible. So I agree that is a silly thought. I also think it's silly to worry that Luery is only earning $5.5 mil next year instead of $7 mil or that Roberts might not be a free agent soon enough. Which Sox contract do you look at and think damn I would feel better if he was making more? I doubt any of them. I also don't care how much the share holders earn.

All levels or MLB? The MLB minimum salary is over $500,000 of which 30 players are earning that. The Sox had eight players earning less than a million. I know it bugged me that Ryan Tepera was playing for only $800,000. We all would be happier if he signed for $1.5 mil. Play a couple seasons and with a little money management they would be millionaires.

That's a great point. Now let's add forcing teams to raise their payroll to the landscape. Using the Pirates as an example. If they have to raise payroll $20 mil are they going to suddenly be in the market for a top tier free agent or will they be inflating the market for the Luery Garcia's of the world? Either way players will be paid more. Folks were worried that signing a sub to a 5.5 million deal could hurt down the road, wait until he's a 7 million dollar guy. I just don't see the team being more competitive by losing Roberts sooner and hoping to sign a comparable free agent at inflate prices.

i think a system that will allow players to become free agents sooner will really help free spending teams like the White Sox who always seem to get their man.

You keep contradicting yourself. I don't care how much Roberts earns next year. I don't care how much equity the Sox shareholders gain or lose. But if that's your calling, you are welcome to it. Which Sox players do you believe are especially underpaid and should receive raises?

Can't you say that about every free agent? He went from 3.5 to 5.5 mil. That's a nice raise.

Arguably baseball teams don't have some of the cost cutting moves that other industries have. Outsourcing manufacturing or labor, greater use of technology, etc. Baseball teams can cut front office costs, try to have taxpayers fund the team via tax breaks or stadium deals or just not sign better talent beyond whatever the minimum is.

Listen, if you will enjoy the game more if Garcia makes $6.5 mil instead of $5.5 mil and ownership groups make less, that's great, it won't change my enjoyment. The Pirates spending more won't increase the talent level in the league, it will just mean other teams, like the Sox, will have less talent at higher wages. I'm not going to worry about it. Neither side will suddenly be poor.

I agree. I wouldn't want it compromising either. The other shame is most fans want to see higher salaries. He really should be getting 7 or 8 mil a year.

No. Do you think that if their costs go up they will just accept lower profits or will they pass those higher costs on to the consumer? Especially the consumer that took the side of increasing costs?

It's more of a shame there is only one form of entertainment in the summer.

And who is negotiating for the fans? If they get people to pick sides, they win. They only lose if people blame the entire sport.
