  1. Friday: Baseball, National Tequila Day with $3 margarita and taco combo delivered, Roberts' first at bat . . . I was younger, innocent, perhaps naive, hopeful for the season then Monday: Yeah, I really don't care. There are problems in the world.
  2. I really do not believe he is making career decisions based on trying to limit the amount of child support he would have to pay. If he is, then he's a class A ass in my opinion for wanting to cheat his child out of any support and risking his career. Support your kid to the best of your ability anything less is wrong. It's not like he'll be eating ramen six nights a week no matter when he starts playing again.
  3. It is also a no fault state as long as there are irreconcilable differences or living apart for two years. We're surprisingly liberal in getting into and out of marriages.
  4. And as his financial situation changes child support can be adjusted.
  5. Cause of death has been an on going discussion. If someone has heart disease and dies from a heart attack after getting shot in the head, what is the cause of death? If covid starts a series of health events that leads to a death, do you count what started the series or what finished the series? The two deaths I'm closest to follow that pattern. Person with an unhealthy heart for years dies a month after contracting Covid. Would he be alive today had he not caught the virus? His doctors say yes. Second person had lung issues. Caught Covid at work and dies from multiple causes. Pick one. Sure both would have died eventually, probably from their other issues but that could have been years from now.
  6. It's an interesting paradox. I agree the season will always be tainted, but on the other hand it may actually take more talent and resolve to win. This will take a deep organization to win. Your fortieth player will have to be better than the other 40th player. You'll also have to have a flexible thinking manager who can think through the new rules without having decades of stats to guide him.
  7. A strong support system can help him get through this. Parents aren't thinking of him as a rich celebrity athlete. Old friends and relatives could also be helpful. It's a different perspective than team mates and new relationships.
  8. Hopefully he finds his way through this. It's got to be a difficult time as anyone who had lived through a divorce will understand.
  9. We're not finished in Texas. We'll make y'all look like slackers.
  10. Free speech isn't really free. ChiSoxFn writes a check each month to keep the lights on. Here's been doing that since he was a poor college kid.
  11. Not regardless of the situation but I understand your point. We've generally avoided speculation in the private lives of players through the years. It's telling that many of the mods have been doing this for over 15 years. We've gone through personal births and deaths, marriages and divorces, and it probably weighs on our decisions. We're not the young, brash, upstart board like we were at the turn of the century. The fact that we have outlasted other Sox boards and remain relevant is something we all should be proud of.
  12. That's a great question and it seems impossible to define in advance. Instead the owner has placed the decision in the lap of the mod team based on over a decade of experience making these decisions. We have missed the mark before and will probably make a mistake again. In this we felt it's a 24 year old kid going through a professional nightmare and speculation seems cruel.
  13. I believe out of respect for two human beings going through something like this we should avoid speculation. It must be a painful situation for everyone involved. It doesn't really matter what they do for a living.
  14. Please let's not speculate on what is a nightmare situation for any human. That is one possibility but there are many more. His situation goes beyond sports and this message board.
  15. Let's look at this moving forward and it may be a good thing for the other teams. An outbreak like this and your roster is shot for two weeks to a month. You just eliminated yourself from the playoffs. The keys for winning this year Keep your players healthy (way more than a regular year) so let's invest some cash to help make that happen. Your organization will have to be deep. Everyone that would have been on your forty man roster and perhaps more will probably be playing at some point. If you thought a Loogy was weird, how about a FRFSIT10 - Fast Runner From Second in the 10th guy.
  16. You are probably right . . . ?
  17. Wow. Splitting up at the same time with a new born on the way. I can't image a worst scenario.
  18. I seriously believe it has to be a marquee player. I wish I was joking.
  19. What a shit decision some 56th guy on a roster has to make. Yeah, 30 guys have caught Covid on this team, now I'm going in? It's the only chance some career MiLB guy may get. I feel sorry for these guys.
  20. There is a reason they have 60 reserved. This season may be a test of the depth of an organization.
  21. I wonder if Vegas has set an over under for how many different players will suit up for a Sox game. 45 would be an interesting number.
  22. How about videos of fans in the hospital with Covid?
  23. Yep, get out of my truck, walk half way to the store entrance, stop, swear a little, walk back, grab my mask, walk back inside . . .
