John Danks is the 7th worst contract in baseball
Texsox replied to Steve9347's topic in Pale Hose Talk
It isn't a pretty contract and it is obvious evidence of signing pitchers to long term deals is risky. -
From taking the Roku 3 out of the box to having Hulu, Amazon Prime, Pandora and Netflix fully functional -- under 10 minutes. Amazing easy set up.

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Feb 11, 2014 -> 01:01 PM) Is your meet against teams far enough away that their weather is different? If not, then you are getting the same amount of preparation. No. But I have players who have never been on a golf course in their lives. I need some time to have them ready.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Feb 11, 2014 -> 12:59 PM) You're on the wrong board to complain about such things. Most of the people who post here have 8 feet of ice in their front yards. In three months when I'm sweltering in 100+ temps people sill post the balmy 70s and 80s. It all evens out. Relative cold is still cold.

Oops. I should have looked.

I have a team to get ready. Our first meet is in two weeks.

I hardly watch any TV and my wife watches just a little more. NCIS, Elementary, perhaps one or two more some weeks. I decided to order a Roku 3 and see how close that will get me to cutting the cable.

I've had to cancel almost have of my golf practices. We have another 42 and drizzly day today.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 10, 2014 -> 02:13 PM) Not a penny was paid for those 634 posts. GP
-
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Feb 10, 2014 -> 11:25 AM) I don't think that's anywhere near true anymore. Nobody cares about A-Rod. Really? 634 posts seems like an indicator. Like I said, even if it was to boo.

QUOTE (ptatc @ Feb 8, 2014 -> 12:15 PM) Comiskey isn't one of them? The old park would have been. But overall the Cell feels too crowded, to concrete. Perhaps if I still lived back there in 2005.
-
Or step one in negotiating a return for this season. He sells tickets, even just for people to show up to boo him.

The ten places to scatter my ashes, in no particular order 1. Grizzly Lake, Yellowstone National Park 2. Laguna Meadow, Big Bend National Park 3. Pebble Beach, Acadia National Park 4. Phelps Lake, Grand Teton National Park 5. In the water off Laguna Station on an outgoing tide, South Padre Island, TX. 6. Little St. Germain Lake, Vilas County, Wisconsin 7. Near the library at UT-RGV, Edinburg, TX (It should be that long from now) 8. Renwood Golf Course, Round Lake, Il (if it is still a course of course) 9. Lincoln Park Zoo, Chicago (near the monkeys, I want to hear people laugh) 10. Bring me someplace new.

Sidebar http://www.wsws.org/en/articles/1999/03/ital-m06.html I wonder how Italians responded when this verdict came in.

When SS2k5 ran for the school board I read his materials and would have voted for him if I lived in his district. My first test is simple, is the cadidate sincere in wanting to help the district he serves. SS2k5 clearly is. Can I share the goals the candidate has? In that case I could. The method to get there may be an issue, but the goals are similar. If we look at the goals, most Americans want the same thing. Opportunity, safety, and security for all. Neither group wants children starving, neither group wants people to die from a lack of health care, neither group wants the country to be attacked, neither group wants people to live in fear, and I could go on. The path to get there is the problem. If we do everything possible to reduce the number of guns in our society, if the police could instantly arrest and confiscate any guns they find, gun crimes would be reduced. If more honest people owned guns and used them to protect themselves, gun related victims could have a fighting chance. Either path could work.

I think there is a simpler, grass roots, way of bringing this back together. Most of the people here overlap on issues. Even the hard core Dem and hard core GOP types here agree on some issues. For example I wrote to my Dem congressman, my GOP senators, and Dem President, that I supported the GOP initiatives on immigration. I believe it is a nice step forward. Not perfect, but a more than meeting half way by the GOP. I told my congressman and my president that if they significantly caused a deal to fall through it would leave me looking more seriously at GOP candidates. Will it have an affect? Probably not if it is just me. Probably if more people also wrote expressing the same sentiment.

Wow. The mother of all bumps. A thread by Steff. How nostalgic.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Feb 7, 2014 -> 10:25 AM) Or it could be that there are real legitimate and deep disagreements over both the proper size/scope of public policy and what that policy should be! I agree there are areas like that. But currently there is zero agreement on anything. That situation is manufactured.
-
There can't be agreement between the parties. That doesn't "sell". It doesn't bring in campaign dollars, doesn't inspire fear. It's like a s***ty card game. They deal the issues and you have to play that card.

I had to cancel golf practice for today. 40 degrees and possible rain.

16 years ago, the last time I was there, Alpine Valley was a superior experience. Nicer facilites, more and better runs.

I am laughing at my budget. I'm seeing rings for under $300 that seem really nice. I was thinking $750 to $1,000 for mine. I don't really like jewelry of any kind. I've never consistently worn a watch, the only ring I'll ever really wear is a wedding band. It is also interesting to me some of the design guidelines we have for the rings. Must be camping and swimming compatible. My wife doesn't want a diamond solitaire, so we're looking at a channel design. Something low profile. She will probably not take it on our summer trips, so we may get matching bands as well. I pitched the dinosaur bone and meteorite design, that may be happening for me, NOT for her.

I lived through that era. I'm not a fan of the '83 uni.

Yesterday SS2k5 posted elsewhere about his opposition to a GOP policy that was one of the best reasoned, well articulated arguments I have read in a while. I hope he shares it here. (hint hint) Also, I was mostly in agreement with the GOP proposals on immigration. Hmm, SS2k5 agreeing with the left and my agreeing with the right. Is this a harbinger of doom?

I've read that several of the new metals will shatter on impact. And like a cell phone screen, it sometimes is just bad or good luck.
