QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Sep 30, 2013 -> 02:49 PM) Because, and this something I've tried to get through to you, being 70 ft long and taking 3-4x the distance to stop as a car does not lend itself to changing lanes very well. So just because at the moment you're in a two mile stretch with no ramps it doesn't mean in the near future (particulalrly on a 3+ lane highway) there won't be many ramps. I need a ton of room to switch lanes, I need a ton of room to even slow down. So being involved in a dance between the center and right lane is bad. I can't be any more clear. Seriously, that's the best I can do. Plus as soon as a truck turns on its turn signal cars speed up as to not get "stuck behind the truck". I've managed to drive 35+ years and rarely have ever passed a truck on the right. Plus I was in outside sales for 25 of those years logging 30,000 miles a year.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 30, 2013 -> 02:42 PM) Yet someone can't realize that a right lane in which cars are able to pass trucks means it doesn't have merging traffic in it (otherwise how the hell would you pass in it?), is some sort of 18 wheeling expert. Cars weaving in and out of traffic from lane to lane?
  3. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Sep 30, 2013 -> 01:43 PM) that's weird. i just saw an Obama speech where he said we had an extreme scientist shortage and needed to bring in scientists from overseas to fill the the millions of open scientist jobs. i don't even know what to believe any more. My guess is there is a gulf between theoretical scientists that are working on pure research and scientists that are trying to create a new and improved mouthwash or a kitty litter that will handle three cats.
  4. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 30, 2013 -> 02:42 AM) The economy is so bad and companies have downsized so much, I can't see that EVER changing to where companies will significantly increase hiring or pay ever again. Why should they? The economy has been so miserable with unemployment so high and wages so low. Do a quick check about corporate profits and then reread your post. Corporations are experiencing all time record profits, and unlike the promises that have been made, they are not hiring or increasing wages. The economy for businesses has never been better. You may recall the argument that we need to cut taxes on the wealthy and corporations and they will reinvest those profits in hiring more workers and increased salaries. That has not happened, which is why I believe those profits should be taxed at a higher rate to encourage hiring. http://www.nytimes.com/2013/03/04/business...ed=all&_r=0

And you have told people who have been driving longer than you have been alive that they don't know anything. And how has that argument gone for you? Hell Duke, while not actually driving, I have more time in a cab than you do, and I agree with a lot of your points, but I stopped trying to help your argument. Not because I disagreed with what your were saying, but how you were saying it.
  6. Texsox replied to witesoxfan's topic in SLaM
Basically Duke you have created an environment that no one wants to agree with you, even if the did agree. It's difficult to insult someone into agreeing with you, just ask congress.
  7. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Sep 30, 2013 -> 09:11 AM) As much as we've focused on that #3 pick in the first round, remember that the Sox also get the #3 pick in every round, That is a damn good point.
  8. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Sep 29, 2013 -> 11:26 PM) A hitting coach who actually preaches OBP is fine with me. A hitting coach that looks at each player, recognizes their strengths and weaknesses, is fine with me. I can't believe Manto coached any differently than he said he would in the interviews. What I find interesting is they pulled the hook this soon. That hasn't been the approach before. It seemed as if you had a job for life with Reinsdorf unless you pulled at Doug Collins.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 28, 2013 -> 08:01 PM) So basically you just proved my whole point for me. Truckers drive dangerously because they can, and don't really give a s*** about anyone but themselves. Not even close to true.
  10. QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 30, 2013 -> 12:40 PM) The economy may not have blinked but it certainly didn't accelerate the way many expected it to prior. But that's ok, 7.8% unemployment is acceptable. Record corporate profits didn't put companies on a hiring spree.
  11. Is the current state of TV manufacturing super s***ty? Last week my father-in-laws top of the line Samsung crapped out in less than two years and my son's 3D Vizio died yesterday, it was 16 months old. I have a 5 year old Sony that is still humming and a small 19" Vizio monitor/TV that so far is perfect.
  12. If Sale had 20 wins on a crappy team like this, how many of us would be pointing towards wins to build his case?
  13. I don't remember this with the last one. A lot did, but not every single one.
  14. Has every iPad app updated in the past three days?
  15. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 25, 2013 -> 04:45 PM) Because if we keep them uninsured, they'll be smart enough not to get in fender-benders. Or at least we can pretend that they never have to leave the house, because otherwise, we'd be paying the much larger bill. After all, a $20,000 bill for a fender-bender is just what this hypothetical person needs to teach him or her the lesson that he or she shouldn't be poor. The lesson here is people earning less than $35,000 and working jobs without health insurance should not own cars or need health care.
  16. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Sep 25, 2013 -> 09:59 PM) So he did a poor job of selling it? Didn't 'get the message out'? That is always the fallback when liberal ideas get rejected. The message DID get out, and it was rejected. As a political strategy Republicans could not allow for a major advancement in our society to be credited to the other party. The GOP has done a remarkable job of getting their message out. It may have been a fight for their survival. The idea hasn't been rejected, all the noise from the conservative press and "grass roots" misinformation campaigns has drowned it out. The GOP side, with all the money is far more effective at amplifying their message. And the party faithful know to ditto it to death ;-)
  17. I wish we had these sorts of budget debates before say dropping bombs on Iraq. We always have monoey for weapons of mass destruction, but not for our own people.
  18. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Sep 25, 2013 -> 09:49 AM) I don't know who you are referring to here. The people that can't afford healthcare now go to doctors/clinics that still get paid by someone (medicaid/non-profits, etc.). So nothing changes there. And what business do you know of that will drop their prices when their demand goes up? The problem area are the working poor whose employers do not offer benefits. They do not qualify for medicaid, etc. They clog ERs and never pay. Their medical bills become so big they could never pay. Someone making $10 an hour, $20,00 or so annually can barely afford food, clothing, transportation, and shelter. A $6,000 medical bill, even if it is a co-pay never gets paid.
  19. Stars or not, I always gravitate towards the catchers. It was "my" position, and it doesn't matter if it's Fisk or some rookie that may only play a season or two, I always like 'em.
  20. QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Sep 25, 2013 -> 03:01 PM) Tony Graffanino He was a huge help during game 2 in 2005!
  21. Carlos May, Kittle, Zisk, Wilbur Wood Hell there were years that everyone on the roster qualified as a "non-star".

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 25, 2013 -> 02:55 PM) Hertz announces they are adding Tesla S cars to their fleet for rental. Interesting. I wonder at which price point. I suspect that Tesla may have cut them a sweet deal.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Sep 25, 2013 -> 09:54 AM) I was going to say, do you have your windows open? I have a Ford with sync and it works pretty well 90% of the time. "Mom cell" definitely works well. Sometimes it gets similar names mixed up, but that's to be expected. The accuracy definitely drops if windows are open though. My major complaint with Sync, at least in my vehicle, is that the volume of the prompts and the volume of the calls do not match...at all. To hear someone clearly you have to turn the volume up, which means the Sync prompts are loud enough to hurt your ears. It's really annoying. Windows were up and I turned down the AC fan. The volume thing wasn't too bad, but I see what you mean. Also reading messages was a bit weird. When they spell out some stuff that seems like should be in their dictionary like instagram. I get I_N_S_T_A_G_R_A_M
