QUOTE (iamshack @ Oct 2, 2013 -> 09:25 AM) Yeah, I was waiting for someone to point this out. I probably didn't state what I meant very well. Better stated, there is a reasonably large component of auto customers that looks to purchase a new vehicle every 2-3 years. For that component, leasing is a reasonable solution because they aren't going to hold onto a car they purchased long-enough to realize the benefits of purchasing v. leasing. I am not even certain of that. You are paying for the most heavily depreciated portion of the car cost. Unless you a suggesting that swapping cars every three years is the most expensive form of ownership, and within the subtext of most expensive, leasing is a viable option, then I agree.

Government Shutdown on the clock thread
QUOTE (mr_genius @ Oct 2, 2013 -> 09:23 AM) Total overreaction. I've seen plenty of peoples careers mocked in here, and u joined in. But now you are offended. Boo hoo Really? You've seen me mock someone losing a paycheck? Prove it. Show me a time when I mocked a poster here who is losing a paycheck? Hickory has a family to support and through no fault of his will be without a paycheck. Duke suggested that all government workers are worthless and deserve to lose their paychecks. Find one time I posted anything close to that. I will point to the Penn State thread where I stood up for the hundreds of workers who lost their jobs because of criminal wrongdoing by others within the University. I felt it was wrong to cause them to lose paychecks when they did nothing wrong. Yes, I have mocked people, but never about losing jobs and paychecks. That is very personal and fundemental to their survival.

QUOTE (Soxfest @ Oct 2, 2013 -> 09:16 AM) My friend paid $75.00 a month for healthcare same policy under Obamacare is $184.00 a month. She is single and her out of pocket pocket cost will go up 4000%. This is not what I call affordable healthcare. Obama lied his ass off. Where was she getting major medical insurance for $75?

QUOTE (iamshack @ Oct 2, 2013 -> 08:23 AM) Right, but most people don't. It seems like most people are at 3 years or so...and Rock is right, I don't think they ding you too badly on returning the car unless you exceed the mileage. Especially if you're considering re-leasing from them. Actually the current average is closer to six years as widely reported. http://www.kbb.com/car-news/all-the-latest...igh/2000007854/

Amazon just announced they are hiring 70,000 full time employees in the US. It will affect some areas and have little or no longer term affect in others.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 1, 2013 -> 09:03 PM) Not sure that flies. Depends on how the law is written, exact phraseology used. So maybe not a sub, just a second company. Would they stop someone from opening up a new company? There are legit applications for that. I remember when a small under 25 employee company I worked for branched out to contract manufacturing. We set up a new corporation because we did not wish to combine for competitive reasons.

Duke, you have reached an all time low. In my years here I have read some pretty despicable things, yesterday you hit the Hall of Shame. Frankly I am embarrased as a long time member here and a mod to allow your posts to remain visible. I hope that most readers understand that you do not reflect the soxtalk community. As a state employee I personally find your remarks insensitive, demeaning, insulting, and beyond contempt. For the first time since I became a mod I will be recommending that your posting privileges be suspended.

I see some companies opening a subsiderary instead of making the jump. A 25 person sales, marketing, and research company and a 40 person manufacturing plant.

I've worked for privatly and publicly owned corporations, two non profits, and now the state government. I can say I worked hard for all of them. I didn't change how I did my job based on who owned the company. Well, that's a lie. I worked my ass off for my own company a bit more.

Government Shutdown on the clock thread
QUOTE (Reddy @ Oct 1, 2013 -> 02:42 PM) I'm sorry, that's asinine. If they'd run on "We'll get rid of ACA at the expense of hundreds of thousands of American jobs" I doubt they'd have gotten elected. Most were open about not compromising. They are now living their promises. No flip flopping. No lying.

The federal employees I have dealt with have been awesome. From my local post office, to staffs at National Parks, IRS, and the Department of Education. Far better than the average WalMart, Best Buy, employee.

QUOTE (Reddy @ Oct 1, 2013 -> 01:21 PM) and if it succeeds, the GOP is dead. they know it, and that's why they're acting like petulant children to try and stop it. That's when it becomes the Affordable Care Act and not Obamacare

QUOTE (Cknolls @ Oct 1, 2013 -> 05:49 AM) So the Fed keeps rates extremley low and tries to manufacture a recovery via higher asset prices, and a result of that policy is higher corporate profits. And you want to tax those profits? These profits are not due to increased revenue, they are a result of low interest rates being used to float debt to buy back stock to increase EPS. Like everything with this gov't this too is phony. And for these numskulls to say there is no food inflation is insane. Have you seen the size of a Pringles can lately? About 1/3 smaller than the old one but the same price. There is no reason to increase the workforce.. We've steadily reduced the top tax rates because these are the "job creators". That is how every tax cut has been sold. Now we see record profits and no hiring. So why continue to accept the "if they have profits, they will hire" argument?

I am applauding the members of the house who campaigned on a no surrender, no compromise, we'll get rid of the ACA, and were elected. Now they are following through on the promise. What I haven't seen much of are their supporters standing up and thanking them for holding firm and allowing a shutdown. Also of note, it seems as if the low visibilty old timers in both parties are more willing to compromise. It is the newer members that seem the most eager to take a my way or no way stance. I had some hope in the small government stance that some Tea Party people were taking. I like the balance between both parties and would not want either party to have carte blanch for very long. I dislike that our choice comes to tax and spend versus spend and don't tax. We end up with all the spending and not enough taxing. When I see record profits and no hiring I stop buying into tax breaks for the "job creators".

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Oct 1, 2013 -> 01:45 PM) When you get 20 to 30 feet of snow each winter in that area the roads become destroyed in no time. It takes one winter for an area like that that to be completely inaccessible so good luck trying to access places that are completely ignored and not kept up. They only pave one road into Yellowstone each winter, the other roads are allowed to snow over.

Things I think we all agree on The most dangerous place to be is hanging out in the right lane in the driver's blind spot When possible, the slowest vehicles should be in the right lane Trucks do not stop as quickly as cars Trucks should leave a larger gap between them and the next vehicle for stopping This gap is an inviting space for cars who are trying to get around the truck causing a potential accident More later

QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Sep 30, 2013 -> 02:49 PM) Because, and this something I've tried to get through to you, being 70 ft long and taking 3-4x the distance to stop as a car does not lend itself to changing lanes very well. So just because at the moment you're in a two mile stretch with no ramps it doesn't mean in the near future (particulalrly on a 3+ lane highway) there won't be many ramps. I need a ton of room to switch lanes, I need a ton of room to even slow down. So being involved in a dance between the center and right lane is bad. I can't be any more clear. Seriously, that's the best I can do. Plus as soon as a truck turns on its turn signal cars speed up as to not get "stuck behind the truck". I've managed to drive 35+ years and rarely have ever passed a truck on the right. Plus I was in outside sales for 25 of those years logging 30,000 miles a year.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 30, 2013 -> 02:42 PM) Yet someone can't realize that a right lane in which cars are able to pass trucks means it doesn't have merging traffic in it (otherwise how the hell would you pass in it?), is some sort of 18 wheeling expert. Cars weaving in and out of traffic from lane to lane?

QUOTE (mr_genius @ Sep 30, 2013 -> 01:43 PM) that's weird. i just saw an Obama speech where he said we had an extreme scientist shortage and needed to bring in scientists from overseas to fill the the millions of open scientist jobs. i don't even know what to believe any more. My guess is there is a gulf between theoretical scientists that are working on pure research and scientists that are trying to create a new and improved mouthwash or a kitty litter that will handle three cats.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 30, 2013 -> 02:42 AM) The economy is so bad and companies have downsized so much, I can't see that EVER changing to where companies will significantly increase hiring or pay ever again. Why should they? The economy has been so miserable with unemployment so high and wages so low. Do a quick check about corporate profits and then reread your post. Corporations are experiencing all time record profits, and unlike the promises that have been made, they are not hiring or increasing wages. The economy for businesses has never been better. You may recall the argument that we need to cut taxes on the wealthy and corporations and they will reinvest those profits in hiring more workers and increased salaries. That has not happened, which is why I believe those profits should be taxed at a higher rate to encourage hiring. http://www.nytimes.com/2013/03/04/business...ed=all&_r=0

And you have told people who have been driving longer than you have been alive that they don't know anything. And how has that argument gone for you? Hell Duke, while not actually driving, I have more time in a cab than you do, and I agree with a lot of your points, but I stopped trying to help your argument. Not because I disagreed with what your were saying, but how you were saying it.

Basically Duke you have created an environment that no one wants to agree with you, even if the did agree. It's difficult to insult someone into agreeing with you, just ask congress.
