Why protest? Somewhere near the top of the list is to get attention for your cause. How do you get attention in America? With so much information, so much stuff flying at consumers, getting their attention is a challenge. In fact, in an information economy, our attention is probably the most valuable commodity out there. Sex and violence sells. We pay attention to that. So wear the masks and get naked!

HS golfer loses state title to errant scorecard
QUOTE (The Critic @ May 16, 2012 -> 01:20 PM) Math is hard. She isn't responsible for the math, she is responsible for the scores on each hole. There really isn't any other way to do it. She signed that she made a par on 18 when she made a bogey. That can not be tolerated. Any penalty less than being DQ's would invite people to accidentaly turn in false scores. Remember, this isn't like any other sport, in golf you report your score.

Ricketts' father out to take down Obama with what will be termed i
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 17, 2012 -> 08:16 AM) Oh I'm sure he doesn't care. Vocal tea party member Curt Schilling is asking the state of Rhode Island to fund his struggling game studio. Government welfare is cool if its going to the 'right' people. Not asking. It is a part of the economic package they gave him a couple years ago when he move the company to RI. The state basically gauranteed his loans.

NATO Chicago
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 16, 2012 -> 08:53 PM) When protestors have to be told not be arrested by the organizers, like they did on May Day, that pretty well explains what the point has become. Then again, part of the challenge is seeding just enough violent protesters to provide the opportunity to get the "gotcha" moment. You planning another tea party?

NATO Chicago
QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ May 16, 2012 -> 04:11 PM) Every time a huge military chopper flies through the city, I have this slight worry for a millisecond that we're under attack or something. There are so many strange military stuff flying around by me that you eventually get accustomed to it. What still freaks some people, and me, is when a Mexico helicopter strays across the river looking for something.

NATO in Chicago
QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ May 15, 2012 -> 02:07 PM) It's a summer weekend in Chicago, when 90% of the hotels are full anyway. And really, TONS of offices are closing for Friday and Monday (if not more) and travel is restricted in certain areas, so the local economy is hurt just as much as it's helped because of this. Add the extra cost for all the security and inevitable damage to property. I bet this thing ends up costing more money than it's bringing in. Not during but for years afterwards. Lots of free publicity going out worldwide. There will be plenty of location shots that highlight the city.

TIME's Top 10 Worst US Sporting Venues
At least the targeted the worst part of the stadium. And perhaps it is fair to not allow the great lower section to offset. So perhaps the Cell could be on two lists, the top 10 lower sections and the bottom ten upper sections. I will say after sitting in the first row of the UD for a game by the 3rd inning I was enjoying the seat. But I understand those that complain the UD is too steep.

Sale back to the rotation per KW, MRI comes back clean
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 14, 2012 -> 02:11 PM) Manny trade was epic-fail. Peavy deal had all the warning signs and then-some. Let's not forgive how hamstrung we've been because of that trade simply due to Peavy's amazing month to start the season 3 years later. What we don't know his how insulated Kenny was from those decisions. Was he the only one wanting those moves or the only one against? Or could they have been ones where "we're all agreed on this"? There are ways in every organization to take risks and not be fired if they don't work out. In fact many organizations (I'm not saying necessarily teams) encourage some risk taking in new products, new directions. But you are correct if Kenny went out on the limb and strongly advocated those moves and was the main driver, he would be in a weak position.

Ground Up Human Baby Pills
QUOTE (CrimsonWeltall @ May 9, 2012 -> 10:24 AM) Science has been an extremely effective tool to further human knowledge. One cannot say the same for 'revelation'. The Bible wasn't designed as a tool. Science has done an excellent job of furthering human knowledge about God's creation. Amazing actually.

Penn State horror story
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 5, 2012 -> 09:21 PM) Number of accusers explodes in new court documents. I'm not certain if I am sad that there are more victims or that it is likely that someone may be imitating victims looking for a pay out.

Fukudome complains to Japanese press about sitting
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 9, 2012 -> 09:29 AM) OH THE CONTROVERSY! http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/news/artic...ws&c_id=cws If this team doesn't make the playoffs, we can blame it on this controversy and Robin's inexperience in handling a major crisis with players openingly questioning his evaluation of talent.

Coolest Lessons in School
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 8, 2012 -> 03:39 PM) That's a really handy engineer/technician's trick in the field. I may have used that more than anything else I have learned in school.

Fukudome complains to Japanese press about sitting
Do we want guys on the roster that say "I'm enjoying sitting on the bench and collecting my paychecks"? I'm not certain why it would be a bad thing for a player to say he wants to play more.

Ground Up Human Baby Pills
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 8, 2012 -> 04:28 PM) I think everyone can believe what they want. I don't see what's wrong with enjoying our 60-100 years, if lucky, and that being that. Given I don't believe in fairy tales and magic and snakes talking and immaculate conceptions, I'll go with the scientific approach. And of course science has always been correct and never changes.

Coolest Lessons in School
I have five or six days coming up without really clear plans and was thinking about some of the really great lessons from school. Or useful stuff that doesn't really fit anywhere else. For example I learned in a college journalism class that US currency is exactly 6" in length. With the tolerances that it is manufactured under, it is more accurate at 6" than any cheap ruler you may buy at the store. Of course it isn't really practicle for measuing say 2 5/8ths but for whole numbers, it works very well. Anyone else remember something they learned in school that was like that?

Chris Sale is now the CLOSER?!/Until he's not (Update)
Since it is so easy to replace closers, might as well destroy him as a closer rather than as a starter.
