  1. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 17, 2012 -> 04:00 PM) What's their job on a team? If a guy is getting paid $25 million to carry an offense/pitching staff on a contending team, there's not a lot of leeway, the guy better be Halladaying it. If a guy is a 25 year old on a rebuilding team, then my answer is completely different. Of course but wouldn't "bad day" be relative for each of those players?
  2. Seriously, if Perry had *not* run for President, he may have looked good as a VP. Romney may have dodged a bomb there.
  3. I am trying to keep pitchers into the discussion. Taking 150 games for a starter, can they have 15 bad games? 30? For a starting pitcher 3 outings where they are out by the fourth? Six? Clearly Dunn surpassed any number last season, but what are fair expectations?

QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Apr 16, 2012 -> 09:12 PM) Me neither. That's for suckers. Do you steal anything else?
  5. QUOTE (lostfan @ Apr 16, 2012 -> 11:15 PM) Being white must suck so much ass. Everything's so unfair! (Yeah yeah I know Zimmerman is "not white" etc. etc. etc.) It does man, we can't jump, dance, rap . . .
  6. A few times when the tv cameras panned the dugout I had a hard time picking out Robin. That's a good thing.
  7. I had one and it was handled very nicely. Turns out the merchant and I were both wrong. I received a credit in about a week. Then I received a very nice letter stating that perhaps I was wrong. (The company name that appeared was not the same as where I shopped).
  8. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Apr 16, 2012 -> 11:48 AM) Balta had them for 90+ losses in February. I guess Leyland's talking to him too! Time will tell. Balta said they could lose 100 games and Kenny would keep his job. I do not recall him predicting 100 or even 90 losses.
  9. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Apr 15, 2012 -> 06:15 PM) I'll never understand the hatred for Cowley on this site. I understand the hatred, I can't understand why he is so widely read. He is the most quoted and commented on media member and there really isn't a number 2. It's like watching a S&M film only the masochists here don't even pretend to enjoy it but they keep going back for the pain. I can't stand banging my head into the wall bang bang I can't stand banging my head into the wall bang bang I can't stand banging my head into the wall bang bang I can't stand banging my head into the wall bang bang I can't stand banging my head into the wall bang bang I can't stand banging my head into the wall bang bang until he finally moves on to another town . . .

  11. Sox coverage in Chicago must have really gone down hill since I left if Cowley's stuff is the #1 most talked about articles.
  12. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 11, 2012 -> 02:02 PM) I agree. Previous examples (John Rocker) support this statement. Now change it from simply a vile statement to it being an expression of political feeling. Doesn't that make it much, much harder? Balta, if a minimum wage front counter person at McDonalds was chasing away customers by making pro-Castro comments, wouldn't the store fire him? Should a manager or player be afforded more protection for their speech?

There are several aspects of web rhetoric that is covered in my program. I'm thinking the Martin-Zimmerman thread might be the entire thesis. From Baseball to World Issues: How one on-line community saves the world. 80 pages? Not a problem.

I am thinking about how to tie a thesis into soxtalk. There has to be a Comp and Rhetoric thesis in here somewhere.

Favorite quote about dogs, cats, or pets in general "Any time you think you have influence, try ordering around someone else's dog."
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 13, 2012 -> 07:46 AM) And what is more likely to get you not-releected again... Not bringing a case, or losing the case? Ooh Ooh let me answer! Not bringing the case. It's much easier to be the tough on criminal prosecutor fighting a system that allows criminals to go free and innocent people getting killed.

    The Pet Thread

I think a case could be made that the keeping of pets is wrong. Based on that, it's the degree of wrong we're willing to accept. Having a dog catch his own rabbit for supper is probably ideal, but not practical. I'm willing to accept that I have never fed my dogs the perfect diet. If I'm 80% of perfect instead of 60%, I'm comfortable with that decision.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Apr 12, 2012 -> 05:42 PM) Why do you insist on talking about this nonsense every chance you get? Honestly, I don't think you've found one other person here that believes this to be a good idea. I don't find it objectionable. I know plenty of hunting camps that feed their dogs this way and it seems to work. I especially like the never ending supply of water. I was usually concerned about cleanliness of the container, but that concern is probably overblown.
