  1. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jan 18, 2012 -> 12:38 PM) It's unlikely anyone else voted for the Muppet Movie soundtrack. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 18, 2012 -> 12:46 PM) In Texas it is more like Hank Williams... Senior. The king is dead, man.
  2. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 18, 2012 -> 04:58 PM) You realize the first thing that he really started to get hammered on was him actually defending one of the only centrist positions he's taken, on allowing children of illegal immigrants into schools? Yes, but those were not the blunders and the weird image he was projecting.
  3. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 17, 2012 -> 02:13 PM) Fortunately, Perry has zero chance. It has become plainly obvious to even the most evangelical and ultra-conservative types that the guy just isn't cut out for the job. He was trying to be something he was not. I wish he would have been himself, much more to the center and less, less, well less everything.
  4. I would have thought my #1 would have been up by now.

QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Jan 17, 2012 -> 11:52 AM) Finished Cold Wind the other day. I agree about the ending...well done. I really enjoy the Joe Pickett series, but his standalone novel Three Weeks To Say Goodbye was top notch. If you're a fan of Harlan Coben, I would highly recommend it. I compare it to Coben's writing because it was intense, fast, and had lots of twists. I just picked it up on eBay. When I bought it I didn't realize it was a standalone novel. I feel a little better with the recommendation. I can't believe how hooked I am with Lonesome Dove. When you can have a women raping a man seem plausible, well that's damn good writing.
  6. I've had most on autopay, now I am finding it a pain to undo everything as I switch banks.
  7. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jan 16, 2012 -> 09:19 PM) And is it coming across to anyone else like Romney is basically officiating this debate? Earlier he mentioned that time was up for another candidate even though he wasn't even mentioned, and just now he said it's OK for Santorum to take longer than 30 seconds. Looking Presidential
  8. How much information about a candidate should the voter be entitled to? Is there anything the public should not have the right to know? Seems like health issues should be private, yet so important to the job. Tax returns? Who they are sleeping with? College transcripts?

I am very surprised at how much I am enjoying Lonesome Dove. Westerns have just not been anything I thought I wanted to read. I am 200 pages in, only 650 to go.
  10. Switching banks suck. I have about 6 or 7 bills that get auto debited from my checking. But switching to USAA, who really rock the service.
  11. I thought about this before posting and I kept thinking about your class heading to Florida from Indiana for Spring Training and interested in Indiana players. All I can think of is f*** you

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 16, 2012 -> 02:55 PM) When someone calls you a quitter, that would piss most people off. I'm not so certain I agree with you on this. Let's try a test. Quitter!

Plus there is a one hour edutainment feature on his life that we are required to view. One teacher is working with his "I Have a Dream" speech.

We are required to teach at least one MLK lesson. Usually the kids get a day full of them. At first I felt it was a little strange, but I've come to embrace teaching on this day. I believe King would have approved.

One Ozzie is enough for any organization, the problem becomes, he spawns orthers to be just like him, and that will not work long term.

I usually teach Valley of Tears on this day, as a way to bring the Civil Rights movement closer to home for my students. The streaming site that had it, isn't available, so I am working on LBJ and his legacy. He does seem to get overlooked. If not for Vietnam, history would have been kinder to his presidency.
  17. Thanks to the list I picked up the latest Wilco CD, much better than I expected.
  18. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 13, 2012 -> 04:45 PM) Federal judge rules that Santorum, Gingrich, Perry and Huntsman missed their chance to be on the Virginia ballot, and furthermore missed their window to file an injunction. So as it stands, only Romney and Paul will be on the VA GOP primary ballot. There may be appeals, but it doesn't look favorable for them. This seems like a terrible loss to the voters in Virginia who will not be allowed the same choices as voters in other states.
  19. QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Jan 12, 2012 -> 12:28 AM) I was pleasantly surprised by the newest Chickenfoot album. Obviously Satriani and Chad Smith are going to hold down their own, but I thought Hagar actually did a nice here as well. Of course Michael Anthony is never going to be any great shakes as a bassist, but it's kinda funny to see him making relevant music when the other 3/4 of the original VH lineup haven't done anything of relevance in at least the last 15 years. Hagar reminds me more of a novelty act, although not as bad as DLR. Both of them would have done well in Vaudville

I have an e-book reader (Nook) for my guilty pleasure reads. I am a permiscious reader lol. I buy most of my better literature in hardcover at used book stores or eBay.
  21. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 12, 2012 -> 03:14 PM) Point one. In order to have labor, you have to have an investor class willing to invest. Criminalizing profits isn't going to create jobs. And without labor, there would be nothing to invest in. Once we moved from a society that was 100% self employed, both sides needed each other. We have to look at why humans created governments to see where society should be involved in business affairs.
  22. I am always intrigued how someone climbs up in the ballots. Their accomplishments have not changed. I think the sending a message stuff about not being a first ballot HoF member is kind of lame, but I understand it. I think their would have been less anti-Bonds stuff if he hit "only" 596 homeruns and not surpassed a couple of non steroid icons. He probably would have had an easier time. If the all-time hits leader can be left out of the hall, I image the all-time homerun leader could to.
  23. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Jan 5, 2012 -> 07:28 PM) If I was Iran, I would definitely try to get nukes +2 You are a player as soon as you have one and the ability to send it somewhere. People answer your calls, return your messages.
  24. He's playing to win. This is his last race IMHO. I'm still feeling someone knocks Romney out but a third person reaps the rewards.
