  1. Right, and if those 50 states could agree on the same requirements, I believe it would be a nice step forward. We know who the main candidates are for the two major parties well in advance. Wouldn't it be nice if the top six or eight are on every ballot? What would it hurt? It seems like it hurts that, for example, in Virginia they will not have the same choices as someone in the next state over.
  2. Actually campaigns, Churches, and other groups do offer transportation to the polls on election day. You believe it is lame, I've volunteered in some very poor areas of this county. People who barely survive. Living in colonias with no running water or electricity. Are they really going to spend even $1 in trying to vote? That $1 is a week's worth of tortillas or a couple pounds of beans. You may believe that it doesn't matter if they can vote or not. I believe every citizen should be allowed to vote and we should work to eliminate any barriers to that basic and fundamental right. You spoke of those soldiers. Several of our wars have been to being democracy to other countries. We are willing to invest time, treasure, and talent for people in other countries to vote, why seek to prevent citizens here from voting?
  3. alpha, there is an expense to get to a facility for the id. In many places there is no public transportation to get to the facility. Also, the hours are an issue for the working poor who do not have the benefits of taking off to go get the id. It is a barrier that is more of an issue for the poor than anyone else. So it may be a stretch, but a small one, to call it a "tax". It is an expense that is more of a burden on the poor and unemployed than anyone else.
  4. I can't believe Cowley or Jay didn't make the list.
  5. Dems shut up about getting soldiers votes? I am offended by that remark.
  6. What he did was vote in an incorrect precint and served on a local board. He was eligible to vote, he just may have voted in a local election in which he was not eligible. He also prevented someone from the local area to serve on that board. How major do you consider that to be? I believe you used the phrase "all he needed to do" . . . Should he be punished and removed from office? Yes. Should the power shift in Indiana at the level it may? No.
  7. Thank You Knight.
  8. Thank you for sharing, that is so cool. I could live in that home.
  9. I would like to see states come up with a national plan for Presidential races instead of the state by state method. I understand it will cause some small states to receive even less attention from campaigns, but this always seems too random.
  10. You are right, all he had to do was stop serving on a board and vote in the correct location. That is a very minor thing to do, almost of no consequence or inportance. Yet those two minor things may switch the political balance in Indiana and negate what the voter's want. All this over serving on a local board and voting out of his area. Neither of which has any consequence on him being in office. I agree the law must be followed, and when it is, not only will White suffer, but every voter who voted for a Republican majority in Indiana will be punished as well.
  11. As SS mentioned, it was a statewide election. My guess is the voters really didn't care which town he was from. I believe I am pretty consistent in this, not matter which party is involved. Did the person that the voters want get elected.
  12. Zzzzs will be hard to come by for youngsters tomorrow night.
  13. None of my top 5 made the final list. Four of my top five are literary and the only movie villain, Aquirre, isn't in a major release film. But, if you have not seen Aguirre: The Wrath of God, rent it. I also thought Professor Moriarity and Grendel had a chance to be on a couple lists.
  14. SS, I wish you had done a list, I had Cowley at #17, I figured you would have had him somewhere as well. Wait, could he be #1 and no Joker? LOL
  15. Here's my yes but. Would the voters in Indiana have elected him if they knew what he was doing? Seems to me they would have. I hope the court's decision is as close to the voter's intent as possible in this case. And the whole shifting of power based on one guy's guilt seems too harsh of a penalty.
  16. No Grendel?
  17. Milkman, in a different thread, I mused that a couple ex Oz players have followed him to Miami. It was quickly pointed out that those players just took the highest contract offered. May have been the same with Danks. For an extra million or two I would even work for you
  18. QUOTE (That funky motion @ Dec 22, 2011 -> 06:35 PM) When is the Soxtalk Christmas party? X- on the calendar for Last Saturday
  19. If Danks extended with the Sox for Coop, did Mark go to Miami for Ozzie?
  20. QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 22, 2011 -> 09:09 PM) You're such a dick. Yeah, I agree with you. He better bounce way the hell back, that's all I know. See the conforming is happening already
  21. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 22, 2011 -> 08:15 PM) Not to be a dick. But I need a bit more conformation from somebody other than a Soxtalk poster that claims he has a source and that's all to take any of this seriously. If his son was so sick, why wouldn't he have taken a personal leave to be with him? Better to be so mentally f***ed that you forget how to play baseball? Again, need something more legit before I believe any of this. Conformation is boring. Just because we all look and act alike, what would that prove? Now confirmation would be a step forward, for those that are interested.
  22. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Dec 22, 2011 -> 05:11 PM) Dunn could win Comeback Player with a job for 2013 fixed
  23. You know, batting .275 would have made everyone happier, even his son. What would have been better than seeing dad on base? I'm pulling for him to be Comeback Player of the Year. He is so set up for it.

QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 22, 2011 -> 10:26 AM) But i am excited for junk mail to die. I can't keep up with it. Bulk mail feeds the pig. Those four or five pieces of mail pay the bills to deliver the one piece you want. Help the post office, sign up for lots and lots of junk mail
