  1. Need a place like that by me since Chicago Dogs closed down
  2. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 14, 2010 -> 01:34 PM) I'd guess that any legal action taken using such a law would only prosecute in cases of obvious and gross negligence or abandonment. Like, you see someone get hit by a car, laying there bleeding to death, and you say "good luck with that" and walk away. If they at least try to get help or call 911, they'd be protected. That's the way Good Samaritan laws usually work out. This is kind of like pornography, we know it when we see it, but everyone sees it in shades of the same color. Too bad we even have to think about making it a law. I know I would always render whatever aid I could.
  3. It seems better if the organization has guys other people want.
  4. Eventually I was going to call the cops because I was so worried something may have happened to the owners
  5. Crap, an irresponsible dog owner, who allowed his dog to bark all night, kept me from getting my beauty rest.
  6. I've had to relearn some of Quicken. My gf and I have a joint household account, plus individual. Getting reports has been a pain. The accounts are at my bank, so transfers are easy, but it really goofs up the category stuff in Quicken. After using Quicken for 20 years, it sducks to have to relearn it. lol I have savings and investments taken out automatically when I get paid. What I had never really done before for sweeping each month. Before, I would wait until the balance built, then do something with it. I can see where doing it monthly, even if it is only $100 or $200 bucks is smarter.
  7. NSS, I believe it was somewhere in this thread you mentioned "sweeping" money into savings each month. I started sweeping anything left in my account at the end of a pay cycle and it has resulted in many hundreds of dollars in additional savings. I suspect by the end of the year I will save a few thousand dollars extra. In the past it would have kind of accumulated and eventually I would have made a frivilous purchase without much thought. Now I find myself sticking to my spending plan a little better. Thanks.
  8. There is a major problem with my answer. I believe people should be compelled to act up to their comfort and skill level. That is impossible to quantify in a court of law. For example, someone may have taken a course in First Aid, but not feel comfortable coming to the aid of a car crash victim. It does seem criminal to me, and I use criminal specifically, for someone to stand by and watch someone suffer or die. So I'd agree with the law and hope that a jury would be able to sort out the marginal situations.
  9. The enemy of my enemy is my friend. So any anti-Obama and anti-Dem folks are friends to the GOP. Now some friends you will stand proudly with and have your picture taken, the tea party folks seem to be forced to use the back door.
  10. Also wondering if an undocumented worker pays the fee, is he covered?
  11. I just listed every horrow movie I remember watching, yep all four of them
  12. Really wish I didn't have to work tomorrow.
  13. I am still wondering if the fire department could be held liable if (it didn't they wetted down the fence line) the neighbor's house burned down because they allowed a containable fire to grow out of control. Sorry Misses O'Leary we can't respond to your barn fire, you didn't pay the fee.
  14. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 9, 2010 -> 06:12 PM) I would like someone to enumerate why they believe things will actually get better in the US over the next two years... Because in the compromise comes a prudent course of action. Because by examining each item closely, the wheat is separated from the chaffe. That is why dictators, and other such single voice systems have stagnated or fell behind while the US has thrived.
  15. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 8, 2010 -> 09:39 AM) I remember all the talk of the "peace dividend" at the end of the Clinton administration and defense spending was headed for the 12-15% range versus 20-22%, but then 9/11 happened and Iraq....and the rest is history. Of course, Japan and Germany both have had their periods of imperialism too. My Chinese students are still being taught to hate Japan because of something that happened almost 60 years ago. The "Peace Dividend" was a Reagan era promise. Basically after we "won" the cold war we could reduce our military expenses.

I would like to move closer to Austin or to South Padre Island.

  18. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 7, 2010 -> 07:22 AM) It puts the FD in an awful position - you are telling firefighters to stand there and watch a building burn down. Or even worse, they watched as fire burned down a house while saving the neighbors grass. They did work to contain the flames. What would have happened if this fire jumped out of control and thousands of acres burned?
  19. I saw an interview with him last night. He made a great comment. He pointed out the lack of industry in their area and asked rhetorically, if you were a business thinking of moving there, would you? He claims he forgot to pay it and also mentioned county taxes that he paid that do go to the city's general fund. If they have his money in the general fund doesn't that allow the city to take general funds and move them to the fire protection district? Seems like a valid point. A giant red flag to me is he also mentioned people he knew who did not pay it *and* the city still responded.
  20. Jersey must be happy
  21. A communal fireprotection service sounds like socialism and that's wrong. There are areas of the country without any fire protection services. I'm not certain who would write the law that fireprotection was required? Would the county write it for a town? The state for a county? The feds for the states for the county for the town? I'm guessing this isn't a legal issue.

  23. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Oct 5, 2010 -> 12:07 PM) So where's Tex? They throwing him a huge bash? Give me two or three more years and I may consider calling myself a teacher. Honestly, in my career I have supervised multi million dollar projects and they were easier than this.
  24. BTW Gene Cranick is now known as the dumb f*** that didn't pay the fee. Around town, similar stupid ass things will be known as pulling a Cranick.
