  2. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/51st_state Cool stuff. And we have just been talking about some of that in my US History class.
  3. QUOTE (lostfan @ Feb 12, 2010 -> 12:07 PM) It just makes no sense that the filibuster is the way it is... I mean, the Senate is already an unequal body and it was designed that way on purpose, so there don't need to be any additional checks. There really is no reason a majority vote in the Senate shouldn't be good enough. How is the Senate unequal?

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 23, 2010 -> 05:40 PM) I like the idea for sure. I'm not very handy however. Don't worry about modifying it then. I just ran a bolt through a couple holes and routed a wire to where you have to pull the pin out before it will slide. Basically, if someone was checking they would think that piece of trim doesn't slide out. It's about 4" high and 12" deep and 18" wide. Matches all the other trim, except it hides that drawer. I was honestly worried about having a nightmare and grabbing the gun and shooting at shadows.
  5. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Feb 23, 2010 -> 06:22 PM) You do not need electricians to plug in consumer appliances or carry in more than two bottles of water. It may have changed, but because the lights were part of a display case, it was ruled we needed a union guy to check it out and plug it in.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 23, 2010 -> 04:28 PM) I'd be interested to hear more about those secret compartments. I am not a huge gun advocate, but if some s*** goes down in this area some day, I want the ability to defend myself. My bedroom set has a couple drawers and areas that are not obvious. Basically pieces of trim hide shelves and such that lift or slide out. I saw them a several styles when I bought this quite a while ago. One compartment I drilled a couple holes in and modified it so you have to do a couple things and then it will slide open. Nothing too fancy, just enough. Visit a decent furniture store, they should have them.
  7. I like the idea, unless they structure the bid where the contractor has to use union labor. I do not need a f***ing electrician to plug in my lamp at a trade show. Have them inspect the booths, that's fine with me, but I was so pissed when they made me hire a union electrician to plug in a light.
  8. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Feb 23, 2010 -> 04:18 PM) You dont think that the view of Chicago and the Lakefront sells the Bears brand better than a field in the middle of no where? And since the Bears sell out every game and have a huge waiting list for season tickets, it seems that most people are fine with the elements. I think the Bears sell the Bears' brand. Wrigley sells the Cubs.
  9. If one team left the city, I always thought it would be the Sox. But I could see the Cubs in the suburbs. Other teams have made the move and survived. It's unlikely, but I would not rule it out. I always felt the Schaumburg White Sox would forever outdraw the Cubs. And I could even easier see the Bears out in the burbs. Yeah it would suck, but a dome in the burbs would be sold out for the next two decades.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 23, 2010 -> 04:10 PM) Right I have a dog as well. But I heard stories of intruders poisoning dogs. Also my concern is when im on vacay or traveling because I put my dog in the kennel. Train the dog to not eat something unless you say "OK". I had my lab trained that way.

Monitored security system. Now that the kids are older and not there all the time, I can get to a gun fairly quickly. My bedroom set has a couple hidden compartments which would take a burgler more than a few seconds to locate. One I modified to where it will not open without something else happening. So I feel reasonable safe that a burgler would not use my own gun on me. It also is an extra step that I would have to be awake enough to get to the gun and possible not accidentally shoot someone. And those that remember my position during some of the earlier gun debates, I am still against having a loaded gun in a house with children. I decided the risk of a break in was less than the risk of the kids screwing aorund and hurting themselves or someone else.
  12. Way more fun when the dumbass bulldozes his half of a house he's losing in a divorce.
  13. I envision the words coming out of his mouth in green . . .
  14. It does seem like a cool career
  15. I'd rather the market dictated the rates, but that doesn't seem to be working.

  17. I seem to recall that Hillary had some high negative numbers, that didn't stop the GOP radio network from annointing her the next candidate. If palin gets around some good campaign people she could be a factor. It's a shame her own party doesn't appreciate her. And after rereading the Perry article in Texas Monthly, I could really rally around him. They could be a great ticket. Two Governors from huge states that weathered the economy better than most.
  18. QUOTE (The Beast @ Feb 21, 2010 -> 12:53 PM) And so I wonder what nights of watching movies and just chilling out with a woman feels like. Seriously, that was more fun than trying and failing. Just like chillin' with a guy . . .
  19. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Feb 21, 2010 -> 12:37 PM) The jist of the stroy was more geared to those lower income families. Obviously someone making $100K that is out of work is not jonesing for the food stamps and federally fund health and day care but those in the lower income to lower middle income side was the focus. And was noted, the lower income earner does not get anywhere near the same amount in unemployment. Someone earning $24,000 per year would receive somewhere around $240 per week or $12,000 per year.
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 21, 2010 -> 12:21 PM) You mean the person who actually led the polls and voting until about halfway through the primaries? I am still not seeing the similarities there. Almost immediately after Bush won, Rush and the GOP radio network started promoting her as the #1 Dem candidate. No one could beat her, etc. She had more talk from the other party than her own. And the GOP strategy of picking the other party's candidate came very close to working. Palin - Perry 2012 For All Americans!
  21. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Feb 21, 2010 -> 10:40 AM) correct, it's just a CPAC (which is mainly going to be activists and hardliners) strawpoll, but it is supposedly somewhat of a 'bellwether' for the GOP. The CPAC crowd is one in which Palin should poll strongly. And yes, I'm sure there will be large voter blocks voting based on TV ads and celebrity just like in 2008 when Obama won. and anyways, no one is going to stop you guys from obsessing over Palin. The funny thing is that like 99% of the Palin posts are from you guys. lol Kind of like all the GOP Hillary posts
  22. Can anyone post a file? And Jas, you certainly have a face for radio!
  23. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Feb 21, 2010 -> 08:45 AM) I think Republicans do go to those events, but more of the Ron Paul wing of the GOP. I don't think anyone is going to beat Ron Paul in a vote at a tea party protest lol. CPAC is a little bit different, Mitt Romney won the past 3 votes I believe, with McCain in second last year. If anything, Palin should win or at least be very competitive in a CPAC poll. She wasn't even close to winning. But anyways, I don't think Ron Paul or Palin have a chance at the GOP nomination. Ron Paul just has followers that will go out of their way to vote in every straw poll, internet poll, whatever. So they are polling the 1% of hardliners and activists? Seems like it will be the common, populist candidate that emerges once the "only pay attention when ads are running on TV" vote.
  24. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Feb 21, 2010 -> 08:35 AM) CPAC allows anyone in attendance to vote in the strawpoll. Palin is more of a dumbass celebrity than anything else. Which does explain the Dems obsession, they love to read about celebrities and follow every thing they do. But I thought it was Republicans that go to those tea party events. Dems follow everything they do, GOPers vote them into office, Arnold, Ron,
  25. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 21, 2010 -> 08:23 AM) It just goes to prove that all of the garbage trying to paint the right wing of the party as in love with Palin to justify all of the coverage and obsession given to her is totally for their own purposes. It has zero basis in reality. The tea party regulars love her on the circuit. Maybe they were not polled. And as soon as Perry announces, all that will change.
